Download or read book Impact of Roughness Induced Dynamic Load on Flexible Pavement Performance written by RCG Haas and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study deals with the impact of roughness-induced dynamic load on flexible pavement distress and performance. It involves field measurements of dynamic axle loads using the instrumented vehicle developed by the National Research Council in the context of the Road and Transportation Association of Canada Weights and Dimensions Study. Pavement distress and performance are modeled using a modified version of the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) VESYS-III-A model.

Book Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Pavements Mairepav9

Download or read book Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Pavements Mairepav9 written by Christiane Raab and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-19 with total page 955 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of an international conference held at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for materials Science and Technology) in Dübendorf, Switzerland, in July 2020. The conference series was established by the International Society of Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructure (iSMARTi) for promoting and discussing state-of-the-art design, maintenance, rehabilitation and management of pavements. The inaugural conference was held at Mackenzie Presbyterian University in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2000. The series has steadily grown over the past 20 years, with installments hosted in various countries all over the world. The respective contributions share the latest insights from research and practice in the maintenance and rehabilitation of pavements, and discuss advanced materials, technologies and solutions for achieving an even more sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Book Dynamic Pavement Loads of Heavy Highway Vehicles

Download or read book Dynamic Pavement Loads of Heavy Highway Vehicles written by Allan P. Whittemore and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although dynamic vehicle loads are assumed to affect the life expectancy of pavement and bridge structures, the degree of influence has been conjectural. The project fell into three phases: literature and field surveys, experiments, and simulation and prediction. Special emphasis was given to ascertaining the types and characteristics of vehicles that produced the largest dynamic loads, to developing a device for measuring forces at the tire/road interface, and to developing a predictive methodology. A variety of speed, load, and road conditions was tested. Two on-board devices for measuring dynamic pavement load on a long-term, continuous basis were perfected.

Book Multiple wheel Heavy Gear Load Pavement Tests

Download or read book Multiple wheel Heavy Gear Load Pavement Tests written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible and rigid pavements were constructed and tested to obtain data on pavement and soil behavior under large aircraft loadings for use in developing criteria for evaluating and designing airfield pavements subjected to multiple-wheel heavy gear loads (WMHGL). The test sections incorporated instrumentation systems designed to determine the response of the pavement structures to static, dynamic (slowly moving), and vibratory loads and to traffic by full prototype loadings of a 12-wheel assembly (one main gear of a C-5A aircraft), a twin-tandem assembly (one twin-tandem component of the Boeing 747 assembly), and a single wheel. Analysis of static load response data from the flexible pavement instrumentation program resulted in the establishment of maximum elastic deflection and vertical elastic stress versus depth curves. Comparisons showed that the same relationships were true for static and dynamic load tests, as well as for speed tests. The findings for the rigid pavement test section indicated that the Westergaard algorithm can be used for reasonable predictio of pavement response to test loadings. The data from the instrumentation program and the traffic tests were used in the analysis of the flexible and rigid pavement test sections. The analysis resulted in a modification of the basic flexible pavement CBR design method. (Author).

Book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils

Download or read book Measuring in Situ Mechanical Properties of Pavement Subgrade Soils written by David E. Newcomb and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to pavement and geotechnical design and research engineers, geologists and engineering geologists, and related laboratory personnel. It describes the current practice for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. The tests conducted to measure the mechanical properties of soil strength and stiffness are the primary topics, and these are discussed in the context of design procedures, factors affecting mechanical properties, and the variability of measurements. Information for the synthesis was collected by surveying U.S., Canadian, and selected European transportation agencies and by conducting a literature search. This TRB report provides information on existing and emerging technologies for static and dynamic, and destructive and nondestructive testing for measuring in situ mechanical properties of pavement subgrade soils. Correlations between in situ and laboratory tests are presented. The effects of existing layers on the measurement of subgrade properties, and soil spatial and seasonal variability are discussed. Most importantly, the use of soil properties in pavement design and evaluation are explained. New applications or improvements to existing test methods to support the use of mechanistic/stochastic-based pavement design procedures are also explained.
