Book excerpt: The concepts of "dynamic faith" and "the gift of faith" are illustrated best where the power works at deep levels, accomplishing what it is trying to bring to pass. Faith is action. It is doing what has to be done. When we see faith, it is work that was done to accomplish what it is desired to do. SUCCESS If you want to do the incredible, you must dream the impossible! The key to success is to dream big dreams and then go after those dreams with all that is within you, understanding that if you want to bring your dream to life, the problems don't matter. CHOICES It is not so much what happens to you but rather what happens in you! You have a choice in life. You can choose to be happy, choose to be healthy, choose to be wealthy. Success is a choice, not a chance! PERSISTENCE Life is going to say No! People are going to say No! But if you persist, then life will eventually have to say Yes! Persistence breaks down resistance. People are not finished when they are defeated, they are finished when they quit! Therefore, never give up! Persist! See your dreams turn into reality.

Book Justified by Faith Alone

Download or read book Justified by Faith Alone written by R. C. Sproul and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luther said that the doctrine of justification by faith alone is "the article upon which the church stands or falls." R. C. Sproul follows Luther's lead in his concise and compelling work, now repackaged and republished. Justified by Faith Alone surveys the main tenets of the doctrine of justification in Roman Catholicism and evangelicalism. Sproul is careful to accurately represent Catholic beliefs and observes that while both traditions agree that faith is necessary for justification, the difference lies in whether faith alone is sufficient. He explores problems with the Catholic doctrine and champions the sole sufficiency of Christ for our salvation. Effective and engaging, Sproul does not shy away from difficult theological terms and ideas, but capably guides readers through this famous doctrinal dispute. To those who decry the doctrines of imputation and justification by faith alone as "legal fiction," Sproul warns that nothing less than the central message of the gospel is at stake.

Download or read book Vigilant Faith written by Daniel Boscaljon and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Vigilant Faith: Passionate Agnosticism in a Secular World, Daniel Boscaljon takes up the contemporary challenges to faith by skepticism and secularism. He proposes a model of faith for believers and unbelievers alike—a passionate agnosticism—that is rooted in a skeptical consciousness. Skepticism and faith are structurally similar, he writes, in that they share an "unknowing" quality. The author argues that vigilance—the act of keeping watch, a spiritual practice in its own right—is as necessary a precondition for the structure of faith as it is for the structure of skepticism. A suspension in uncertainty and an openness to possibility require vigilance, he attests, if faith and skepticism are to avoid the often dogmatic tendencies of both theism and atheism to cling to their own brands of certainty and knowledge. Boscaljon has three aims: to expand the current, post-theistic definitions of God for greater relevance to human beings on an individual and existential level; to integrate skepticism into faith so that it will restore the importance of faith to current theology and recover it from anti-intellectual bias; and to conceptualize the vigilance of faith in such a way that can provide a vocabulary for distinguishing "good faith" from "bad faith." He offers a variety of cultural examples ranging from film to poetry to represent a life of faith and to show how its components come together in practice. As an alternative to the prevailing fundamentalisms in today's world, his book proposes a paradigmatic understanding of faith in which theism, atheism, and agnosticism refuse to differ.

Book Buddhist Faith and Sudden Enlightenment

Download or read book Buddhist Faith and Sudden Enlightenment written by Sung-bae Park and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buddhist Faith and Sudden Enlightenment explains how sudden enlightenment occurs through the awakening of patriarchal faith. This is the non-dual affirmation that one is already Buddha as opposed to the doctrinal, dualistic faith that one can become Buddha. The essence of the presentation is that patriarchal faith forms the basis for sudden enlightenment in Zen meditation. For the practitioner, this book establishes the Zen method of mind-cultivation on a higher level by introducing a new understanding of awakening right faith. Included is extensive material on the history of faith in Buddhism with the main attention devoted to Ch'an (Zen) and Hua-yen. There are also substantial discussions of Buddhist antecedents to these schools and of the Pure Land School. This is the first book in English to examine the central role of faith in Mahayana Buddhism. The author's approach develops from his personal experiences as a son (Zen) monk of the Chogye order, which was heavily influenced by the integration of meditation and scriptural study established by Chinul.
