Book Dynamic Characteristics of a 9 deg Cone with and Without Asymmetries at Mach Number 10

Download or read book Dynamic Characteristics of a 9 deg Cone with and Without Asymmetries at Mach Number 10 written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel tests were conducted at Mach number 10 on a 9-deg half-angle cone model using a unique dynamic stability balance having three angular degrees of freedom. Data obtained at Re = 1,970,000 on models having different types of compound asymmetries revealed vast differences in the developed motion. A model with a center-of-gravity offset and a small, out-of-plane nose slice as the second asymmetry was found to have a totally unexpected type of instability. The instability was the rapid divergence of the precession arm caused by a Magnus-type moment resulting from an out-of-plane force generated by the nose slice. When the slice was removed (sharp nose model) and the second asymmetry applied by uing a small tab at the base, the classical roll resonance was found. (Author).

Book Dynamic Stability Characteristics of a 10 deg Cone at Large Amplitudes of Oscillation at Mach Number 10

Download or read book Dynamic Stability Characteristics of a 10 deg Cone at Large Amplitudes of Oscillation at Mach Number 10 written by B. L. Uselton and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the 50-in. Mach 10 wind tunnel of the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility to determine the dynamic stability characteristics of a 10-deg half-angle cone at large amplitudes of oscillation. Support interference effects were also investigated. A free oscillation, high-amplitude (+ or - 35 deg) gas bearing balance supported by a transverse rod and yoke system was used. Data were obtained at a nominal Mach number of 10 at Reynolds numbers, based on the model base diameter, ranging from 0.46 to 1.84 x 10 to the 6th power. The dynamic and static stability data are compared with data obtained with a sting-supported model, range data, flow field theory, and conical flow theory. Selected test results are presented. Book Dynamic Stability Characteristics of a Lo deg Cone at Mach Number 20

Download or read book Dynamic Stability Characteristics of a Lo deg Cone at Mach Number 20 written by R. H. Urban and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the 30-Inch Hypersonic Tunnel on the Aerospace Research Laboratories, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio to determine the effects of Reynolds number and frequency of oscillation on the damping-in-pitch derivatives of a 10-deg half-angle cone. Free oscillation data were obtained at a nominal Mach number of 20, at Reynolds numbers, based on model base diameter, from 50,000 to 100,000, and at model oscillation frequencies from 8 to 45 cps. Test results are presented, and comparisons are made with modified Newtonian impact theory and an unsteady flow field theory. (Author).

Book Dynamic Force Measurements and Boundary Layer Transition Mapping on a Spinning 9 Deg Cone with and Without Mass Addition at Mach Numbers 5 and 8

Download or read book Dynamic Force Measurements and Boundary Layer Transition Mapping on a Spinning 9 Deg Cone with and Without Mass Addition at Mach Numbers 5 and 8 written by T. D. Buchanan and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind tunnel test program was conducted to determine the effect of spin on the aerodynamic forces and moments and the shape and movement of the boundary-layer transition zone on 9-deg (half-angle) cone configurations. The effects of nose geometry, mass addition, angle of attack, Mach number, and Reynolds number were investigated at various spin rates. Results were obtained using a spin mechanism (1-DOF) developed for this test and a three degree-of- freedom (3-DOF) mechanism. The test was conducted at Mach numbers 5 and 8 at free-stream Reynolds numbers, based on model length, ranging from 1.6 to 24 million and angles of attack ranging from -6 to 6 deg. The dynamic heat-transfer rate results were corrected for gage response characteristics with the use of the digital Fourier Analysis technique. The dynamic results were generally in good agreement with the steady-state results. The data obtained from the spin tests indicated there were no effects of spin on the transition zone nor were there any induced lateral forces or moments produced at the test conditions of this test.

Book Dynamic Tests of a 10 Deg Cone Having Three Angular Degrees of Freedom at Mach 8

Download or read book Dynamic Tests of a 10 Deg Cone Having Three Angular Degrees of Freedom at Mach 8 written by L. K Ward (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic stability data were obtained on a slightly blunted 10-deg half-angle cone at Mach number 8. The tests were conducted using a unique balance system which allowed the model to have three angular degrees of freedom. Both a symmetrical model and a model having compound configurational asymmetries were tested at free-stream Reynolds numbers, based on model length, of from 1,610,000 to 2,950,000. Data obtained on the symmetrical model at roll rated up to 300 rev/min showed the damping-in-pitch derivatives to be nearly constant with roll rate. (Author).
