Book Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment

Download or read book Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment written by Jean-Jacques Fry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment is the outcome of a three year cooperation program between CFBR (Comite Francais des Barrages et Reservoirs or French Committee on Large dams) and JCOLD (Japan Commission on Large Dams), and focusses on the dynamic behavior of concrete and embankment dams analyzed based on acceleration records of the JCOLD data base. The book covers a broad range of topics, including simplified and detailed methods of dynamic analysis for the seismic response of concrete and embankment dams compared with measured behavior. The response of embankment dams subjected to a 1.0 g foundation acceleration time history is computed by several analytical methods and compared. The modelling of stress-strain behavior of compacted soils for seismic stability analysis of earth-fill dams and its application for a failed earthfill dam is described. The cracking of the face slab of four faced rockfill dams during earthquakes is analyzed. The seismic behavior of concrete arch dams is discussed by the comparison of numerical and experimental results. Displacement-based seismic assessment of concrete dams is presented. Finally the book contains a comparison between the Japanese and French design criteria of gates and a comparison of the analysis of gates and field measurements. Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment will be useful to professional and academics involved or interested in dam engineering.

Book Dynamical Behaviour of the Earth Dams

Download or read book Dynamical Behaviour of the Earth Dams written by Yousef Parish and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book concerns influence of unsaturated soils of earth dams. The effective stress variable has been used in the Mohr-Coulomb theory for predicting the shear strength of saturated soils. In this book is considered a clay core of earth dam that water level is supposed. Tree types of soil are chosen for calculation of unsaturated cohesion with two mentioned methods, Eq. Matsushi and Matsukura and Eq. Lee et al.This book shows the influence of the water level on the cohesion profile in the dam. Also, the book concerns the seismic induced response of earth dams. Analysis is conducted by a non linear finite difference modeling of the earth dam using the software FLAC3D. The behaviour of the Shell and core of the dam is described by a Mohr coulomb criterion. The material properties have been chosen more close to reality. For this book, the dynamic input be applied in terms of velocity for both sinusoidal and earthquake velocity waves at the foundation base of the model in the horizontal direction.

Book Numerical modeling of the static and seismic behavior of earth dams

Download or read book Numerical modeling of the static and seismic behavior of earth dams written by and published by . This book was released on 1909 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents the development of numerical procedures for static and dynamic sequential analysis of earth dams during the main phases of their life: construction, reservoir filling and seismic loading. The numerical modeling is performed using the finite element method with material modulus that exhibit either stress state (static analysis) or strain state (dynamic analysis) dependency. General behavior characteristics of earth dams subjected to static and dynamic loads are initially presented. The main factors influencing the static and dynamic responses are also indicated e briefly discussed. Mathematical formulations and the numerical algorithms considered in the development of a computer code specially written for this research, such as interface elements, infinite elements, viscous boundaries, etc., are fully described with several illustrative examples to validate their application. The prediction of both static and dynamic responses of the Recreta Dam, in Peru, is also carried out considering the available seismic records of the Lima earthquake, occurred in 1974. The computed numerical results indicate that the computer program is reliable, efficient and potentially useful for other geotechnical applications.

Book Numerical Analysis of the Seismic Behavior of Earth Dams

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of the Seismic Behavior of Earth Dams written by Yousef Parish and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08-23 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with an important and complex issue in geotechnical and earthquake engineering, which concerns the influence of both plasticity and pore water pressure on the influence of the seismic response to real earthquake records. Analyses are carried using the software FLAC3D. The book includes three parts: The first chapter presents a literature review of research on earth dams. It presents observation during earthquake loading, the different methods of seismic analysis of earth dams, such as the simplified methods, the empirical methods, the equivalent-linear analyses and the non linear methods. The second chapter presents a numerical analysis of the seismic behaviour of earth dams. Analysis is conducted for the solid phase. It corresponds to the response of the dam before water filling. The third chapter presents a numerical analysis of the influence of the water-skeleton interaction on the response of earth dams to seismic loading. Analysis is conducted first under undrained condition, which corresponds to a simplified analysis of the response of the dam.

Book Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction materials industry is a major user of the world’s resources. While enormous progress has been made towards sustainability, the scope and opportunities for improvements are significant. To further the effort for sustainable development, a conference on Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies was held at Coventry University, Coventry, U.K., from June 11th - 13th, 2007, to highlight case studies and research on new and innovative ways of achieving sustainability of construction materials and technologies. This book presents selected, important contributions made at the conference. Over 190 papers from over 45 countries were accepted for presentation at the conference, of which approximately 100 selected papers are published in this book. The rest of the papers are published in two supplementary books. Topics covered in this book include: sustainable alternatives to natural sand, stone, and Portland cement in concrete; sustainable use of recyclable resources such as fly ash, ground municipal waste slag, pozzolan, rice-husk ash, silica fume, gypsum plasterboard (drywall), and lime in construction; sustainable mortar, concrete, bricks, blocks, and backfill; the economics and environmental impact of sustainable materials and structures; use of construction and demolition wastes, and organic materials (straw bale, hemp, etc.) in construction; sustainable use of soil, timber, and wood products; and related sustainable construction and rehabilitation technologies.
