Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I'm continually amazed by the fulfillment of Old Testament Scriptures regarding our Savior and King. They never fail to take my breath away! The disciple, Matthew, learned from his Master how to bring "out of his treasure things new and old" (Matthew 13:52). In other words, more than any other gospel writer, Matthew ties Old Testament Scriptures to the realities of our New Testament messianic King. Matthew gained wisdom by being covered in his Rabbi's dust. This expression relates to this former tax collector's willingness to leave all and follow Jesus. Christ and his disciples walked together, ate, ministered, rested, and celebrated together. Jesus' wisdom was imparted to these committed followers. In Dusty Sandals: A Woman's Walk Through the Prophecies and Promises of Matthew, we learn that disciples of all times have been commissioned to not only be disciples, but to go on to maturity and to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). Matthew does this as he composes his account, passing on words of life, shaping a new generation of disciples like you and me. So, let's jump in with Matthew to walk the dusty roads of Israel, learning from our Rabbi, Lord, and King! Dusty Sandals: A Woman's Walk Through the Prophecies and Promises of Matthew is a three volume Bible study. Volume 1 covers the Gospel of Matthew chapters 1-10. The study is divided into 10 lessons with each lesson further divided into three days. Author, Nancy Gemaehlich, has a passion to equip and encourage women in the Scriptures. She works alongside her husband, Bill Gemaehlich, as a pastor's wife and is the Director of Women's Ministries at Calvary Chapel Honey Creek in Weston, Texas. Nancy earned a Master of Arts in Christian Education with an emphasis on Ministry with Women in 2019 from Dallas Theological Seminary, Dallas, Texas.

Book excerpt: The author of Becoming George Sand has crafted a “standout novel of a tested friendship . . . highlighted by fine prose and finely drawn characters” (Publishers Weekly). When her old friend Hannah doesn’t show up at her house in the south of France, everyone assumes that Claudia, who has known Hannah since their shared years at boarding school, will know where she is and what has happened. But as Claudia travels from the United States to France to help her friend’s husband and children conduct their search, she is forced to deal with her old jealousy of Hannah, as well as her own relationship in the present with her French lover, Alexandre. As events unfold, Claudia begins to wonder if Hannah and Alexandre may have had an affair and if that has something to do with Hannah’s mysterious disappearance. In this exquisitely written, Ferrante-esque novel the question of whether or not Hannah will come back becomes urgent and bewildering. And if she doesn’t return, what will the lives of her friends and family be without her?

Book The Book of Help

Download or read book The Book of Help written by Megan Griswold and published by Rodale Books. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LOS ANGELES TIMES BESTSLLER • WINNER OF THE NAUTILUS BOOK AWARD • “In a world full of spiritual seekers, Megan Griswold is an undisputed all-star. What a delightful journey!”—Elizabeth Gilbert, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Big Magic and Eat, Pray, Love The Book of Help traces one woman’s life-long quest for love, connection, and peace of mind. A heartbreakingly vulnerable and tragically funny memoir-in-remedies, Megan Griswold’s narrative spans four decades and six continents—from the glaciers of Patagonia and the psycho-tropics of Brazil, to academia, the Ivy League, and the study of Eastern medicine. Megan was born into a family who enthusiastically embraced the offerings of New Age California culture—at seven she asked Santa for her first mantra and by twelve she was taking weekend workshops on personal growth. But later, when her newly-wedded husband calls in the middle of the night to say he’s landed in jail, Megan must accept that her many certificates, degrees and licenses had not been the finish line she’d once imagined them to be, but instead the preliminary training for what would prove to be the wildest, most growth-insisting journey of her life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A beautifully realized exposition of family, myth, the stories we tell ourselves about our lives and of apartheid itself.”—Shelf Awareness Helga Divin, matriarch of a prominent white family from Durban, South Africa, lies dying in the London mansion of her second husband, industrialist Arnold Miro. Her children, Danny and Bridget, rush to her side. The pair soon realize that Arnold plans to steal a collection of African artifacts their late father spent a lifetime assembling, including majestic ivory tusks whose provenance traces to the legendary king Shaka Zulu. To Danny and Bridget, the tusks have personal meaning and great historic value. When the siblings move to thwart Arnold, they find themselves facing the layers of myth surrounding their family under apartheid. Returning to Durban, amid the turbulence of contemporary South Africa reinventing itself as a multi-racial democracy, Danny and Bridget discover that what they have always believed about themselves is as fragile and suspect as the stories they once accepted as truth. “Schmahmann handily portrays the cruelty of apartheid . . . What distinguishes his take on the subject is an insistent focus on aspects of race-relations far more complicated than egregious discrimination.” —Miami Herald “An entrancing literary effort drawn from authentic characters and settings.” —Kirkus Reviews “[H]aunting. . . . [A] sad, revisionist book about the moment we realize that our paradise was in reality far from an idyll.” —Publishers Weekly “[A] rich and arresting tale of human need and national rebirth.” —Tampa Bay Online “Sure to spark discussion, the novel vividly evokes white culture in South Africa, past and present, and the myths it has engendered.” —Booklist

Download or read book Murder in Aubagne written by D. M. G. Sutherland and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of faction, lynching, murder, terror and counter-terror during the French Revolution. It examines factionalism in small towns like Aubagne near Marseille, and how this produced the murders and prison massacres of 1795-8. Another major theme is the convergence of lynching from below with official Terror from above. Although the Terror may have been designed to solve a national emergency in the spring of 1793, in southern France it permitted one faction to continue a struggle against its enemies, a struggle that had begun earlier over local issues like taxation and governance. It uses the techniques of micro-history to tell the story of the small town of Aubagne. It then extends the scope to places nearby like Marseille, Arles, and Aix-en-Provence. Along the way, it illuminates familiar topics like the activity of Clubs and revolutionary tribunals and then explores largely unexamined areas like lynching, the sociology of faction, the emergence of theories of violent fraternal democracy, and the nature of the White Terror.

Book Christ In Heaven And So Is Joshua

Download or read book Christ In Heaven And So Is Joshua written by Gene E Herrick and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-07-21 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a fantasy, written by me, Gene E. Herrick, a retired journalist of twenty-eight years with the Associated Press. I have always wanted to cover Jesus and delve into his life. This is the second in the series about Jerusalem Inquirer writer Joshua and his glories and travails covering Jesus. Seems more exciting than some of the stories I covered before going back in time. I got into being with Jesus, first as a skeptic, and then being in awe. Being in heaven with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirt gave me new insight into their lives and the effects it has on humanity. What an opportunity to interview them and then send the stories back to earth! Please enjoy this book.
