Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domestic Violence is an ugly reality for far too many. Its effects change and destroy individuals, families and communities. After having her family, home and relationship with her children torn apart by the actions of her abuser, this survivor has opted to tell her story, through poetry, in her journey to reclaim herself and redesign her future. The African Proverb says until the story is told by the lion, the hunt will always glorify the hunter. With art as a tool for healing and a path to promote wholeness, Kim hopes to assure those caught in the throes of the insidious cycle of Domestic Violence that it is ok to acknowledge what they feel and it is ok to disrupt the comfort of those around them and tell their whole truth. If we are to ever live in a world free of #MeToo, there must be occasions where victims' and survivors' stories are heard and where perpetrators (and those who know while saying nothing) are held accountable for their actions. For some, like Kim, the reality of Domestic Violence does not easily culminate in a moment of absolute victory. For some, it looks like 20+ years of various types of abuse. For some, it looks like restraining orders that "can't" be executed and countless court appearances. For some, the journey looks like a judgment overturned in favor of their abuser. For some, the journey looks like living in fear while never telling anyone. For some, the journey looks like leaving, returning and leaving again. For some, the victory looks like shaking off the dust and getting up, again and again and again. If you're taking up this book to read and you have been directly impacted by the ugly reality of Domestic Violence, even if you are a victim, YOU ARE A SURVIVOR. Perhaps this will assist you in finding your voice. Maybe, in these pages, you will find community. Welcome to Dust Bunnies and Sparrows.

Book excerpt: From the National Book Award winning author, an extraordinary, ground-breaking, epic multi-generational novel about a Korean family living under Japanese occupation. In 1930s Japanese-occupied Korea, Lee Woo-cheol was a running prodigy and a contender for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. But he would have had to run under the Japanese flag. Nearly a century later, his granddaughter is living in Japan and training to run a marathon herself. She summons Korean shamans to hold an intense, transcendent ritual to connect with Lee Woo-cheol. When his ghost appears, alongside those of his brother Lee Woo-Gun, and their young neighbor, who was forced to become a comfort woman to Japanese soldiers stationed in China during World War II, she must uncover their stories to free their souls. What she discovers is at the heart of this sweeping, majestic novel about a family that endured death, love, betrayal, war, political upheaval, and ghosts, both vengeful and wistful. A poetic masterpiece that is a feat of historical fiction, epic family saga, and mind-bending story-telling acrobatics, The End of August is a marathon of literature.

England, 2014: Audrey Collins knows only two things about her beloved grandmother's past: She was born into nobility and she immigrated to America at seventeen years old. So when Audrey inherits her gran's home in North Yorkshire, she arrives expecting a sprawling country estate fit for lords and ladies. Instead, she finds an abandoned stone cottage perfectly preserved as Gran left it when she fled in 1941—ration book and all—and begins to uncover what secrets her family has been keeping. France, 1915: Lady Emilie Dawes is working as a nurse on the Western Front, grateful to have escaped the restraints of her restrictive, privileged home life. But the independence she fought hard to earn is suddenly jeopardized when a familiar man shows up in one of her hospital beds. Facing him means facing her past, and the decisions she had made in fear. As the war rages around her, Emilie realizes she cannot continue running from who she is until she decides who she truly wants to be. Over a hundred years apart, Audrey and Emilie each struggle to find purpose, love, and a place to call home in this enchanting family saga celebrating the courage of underestimated women—and the power a secret can hold across generations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broke and alone, this street smart cynic is about to discover family is about more than blood, and definitely more than money. Brenda Munroe was mercenary even as a child. It was that or going hungry, or worse. From stealing school lunches, she’s moved onto bigger, better and even legal things. Life is finally looking up when her carefully created world comes crashing down. Stuck broke in London, it’s going to take every ounce of her street smarts to survive this time. Strapped for cash — and with a real aversion to the old nine-to-five — Brenda opens a residential school for girls, teaching them in weeks what it’s taken her years to master. Namely, how to get by on good looks and a bucket-load of charm. And no need to screw the old guys, thank you very much. Will her students be the only ones learning new skills, or will Brenda finally understand family’s about a whole lot more than the blood relations you’ve been lumbered with? Strapped for Cash is a rollicking, laugh-out-loud read full of historic art thefts, extortion, and politically-charged B&D. So, sit back and join Brenda on her mission to take down the British aristocracy one prat at a time. TRIGGER WARNING: Set in the seventies, the book contains swearing, drinking, and bad behaviour. Please do not read this novel if this will upset you and cause an adverse reaction. This series is full of bad language, bad behaviour and poorly executed Farrah Fawcett hairstyles. While laugh-out-loud at times, the books also touch on real life, making them raw in places.
