Book Ductility and Formability of Metals

Download or read book Ductility and Formability of Metals written by Giovanni Straffelini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ductility and Formability of Metals: A Metallurgical Engineering Perspective uses metallurgical, mechanical and physical principles and concepts to explain ductility while emphasizing the influence of material microstructure on damage mechanisms. Focusing on steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and magnesium alloys, the book examines the strain hardening behaviors of these metals and alloys, the influence of strain rate and temperature, and ductile fracture mechanics. Hot plastic deformation is covered with special consideration given to its interplay with recrystallization phenomena. Other phenomena such as Dynamic Strain Ageing (DSA) and Adiabatic Shear Banding (ASB) are discussed, and metal working applications such as forging, extrusion and machining are included throughout. Methods for control of ductile cracks in metal parts resulting from rolling, forging, extrusion, drawing, and sheet metal forming are also outlined. Provides an overview on the plastic deformation behavior and ductile fracture of steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and magnesium alloys Illustrates the influence of microstructure on yield behavior, strain hardening of metals, and the influence of strain rate and temperature Covers the role of the strain hardening coefficient (n), strain rate index (m), Dynamic Strain Ageing (DSA), and Adiabatic Shear Banding (ASB) Metalworking applications are provided throughout, including forging, rolling, extrusion, wire drawing, sheet metal forming and machining

This book was released on 1991-12-07 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S.-Japan Joint Seminar on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures under Cyclic Loading was held in Osaka, Japan on July 1-3, 1991. This three-day seminar was devoted to five main topics: 1) materials properties and plasticity models, which featured experimental investigations of the material properties of structural steels and plasticity models of the material characteristics under dynamic and cyclic loading conditions; 2) experimental observations, which featured experimental studies of cyclic buckling behavior of steel structural members and frames subjected to dynamic and cyclic loading conditions; 3) analytical modeling, which discussed analytical modeling of the cyclic buckling behavior of steel structural members and frames; 4) design implementation, which emphasized earthquake engineering design of steel structures against cyclic buckling; and 5) future research needs, in which future analytical and experimental research needs on the behavior and design of steel structures subjected to dynamic and cyclic loading conditions were identified. This book contains 30 contributed papers presented at the seminar.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third book in the series from Columbia University is focused on metals. Metals, as surface or structure as the generators of space play a role in nearly every strain of modernization in architecture. They define complete geographies of work, production, and political life. Non-architectural metals delivered in automobiles, and hard goods in the United States and worldwide have all been sourced as the engines of the sprawling late twentieth-century city in all of its forms. But in the received aspects of architectural history, metals, and in particular steel, remain less diluted; they are presented as intrinsic to the profession as material precedes concepts they are carriers of architectural meaning. Few concepts are as central in structural engineering as the ability of a material to sustain plastic deformation under tensile stress the standardization of historically known deformation limits or ductile properties in most materials allows architects and engineers to keep the analysis of structure within known parameters of finite element analysis rather then materials science. If the goal is avoid fracture, the boundaries are set and the limits of ductility are observed. Post-Ductility refers to the literal aspects of material behavior in this case of metals but also of aspects of architectural and urban space that are measured by less verifiable but nonetheless real quotients of stress and strain. It is the tension and compression of space that gives form or coherence to form. In either the case of engineering and architecture, formerly daunting degrees of risk seem to have been diminished; new levels of sophistication in calculation lower the risk tolerance for fracture, while more metaphoric readings of limits in architectural and urban space seem to have been long surpassed, at times with abandon. The counter-effort has been quite strong if not successful: there are those that want to recreate dense cities by means of compression and there are immense forces of spatial extension by way of economics, communication and transit. Space is pulled to elastic limits and made thin as highly malleable materials such as gold or lead as it is also often re-compressed as forms of urban density. If metals are a significant origin for architecture and indeed whole cities—from buildings to automobiles and labor, then what are the limits or equations that offer a new evaluation of both metals, but also of material in a wider sense, as a determining component of the built world? What does an engineer and architect bring to this arena in both local and global circumstances?

Book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019

Download or read book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019 written by František Wald and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 1373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than forty years the series of International Colloquia on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures has been supported by the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC). Its objective is to present the latest results in theoretical, numerical and experimental research in the area of stability and ductility of steel and steel-concrete composite structures. In Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures 2019, the focus is on new concepts and procedures concerning the analysis and design of steel structures and on the background, development and application of rules and recommendations either appearing in recently published Codes or Specifications and in emerging versions, all in anticipation of the new edition of Eurocodes. The series of International Colloquia on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures started in Paris in 1972, the last five being held in: Timisoara, Romania (1999), Budapest, Hungary (2002), Lisbon, Portugal (2006), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2010) and Timisoara, Romania (2016). The 2019 edition of SDSS is organized by the Czech Technical University in Prague.

Book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures

Download or read book Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures written by T. Usami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-07-23 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The near-field earthquake which struck the Hanshin-Awaji area of Japan before dawn on January 17, 1995, in addition to snatching away the lives of more than 6,000 people, inflicted horrendous damage on the region's infrastructure, including the transportation, communication and lifeline supply network and, of course, on buildings, too. A year earlier, the San Fernando Valley area of California had been hit by another near-field quake, the Northridge Earthquake, which dealt a similarly destructive blow to local infrastructures. Following these two disasters, structural engineers and researchers around the world have been working vigorously to develop methods of design for the kind of structure that is capable of withstanding not only the far-field tectonic earthquakes planned for hitherto, but also the full impact of near-field earthquake.Of the observed types of earthquake damage to steel structures, there are some whose causes are well understood, but many others continue to present us with unresolved problems. To overcome these, it is now urgently necessary for specialists to come together and exchange information. The contents of this volume are selected from the Nagoya Colloquium proceedings will become an important part of the world literature on structural stability and ductility, and will prove a driving force in the development of future stability and ductility related research and design.
