Book Successful Small Game Hunting

Book excerpt: Strategies for Today's Small Game Generation Whether it's waiting out a fox squirrel in a northeastern Ohio hickory grove, calling from a midnight stand for red fox, or anticipating the whirlwind flush of a ruffled grouse, nothing challenges the hunter nor hones the skills quite like the pursuit of North America's small game species. In his latest book, Successful Small Game Hunting, M.D. Johnson helps rekindle the flame that sparked the desire to hunt. With new twists on age-old outdoor ideas and just enough nostalgia to remind you that small game hunting is "where it all began," Johnson revisits the species and the techniques that have helped make small game hunting the grand pastime that it is. Wonderfully illustrated with outstanding images by award-winning photographer, Julia Johnson, Successful Small Game Hunting follows in the footsteps of Johnson's other titles - Successful Duck Hunting and Successful Turkey Hunting - by putting you right into the middle of the action with some of the finest small game hunters and trappers in the nation. Recapture the thrill of your first hunt as M.D. Johnson and friends guide you through the woodlots and uplands, the marshes and the fields in search of small game.

Book The Wild Duck Chase

  • Author : Martin J. Smith
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2012-09-18
  • ISBN : 0802779549
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book The Wild Duck Chase written by Martin J. Smith and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE WILD DUCK CHASE is the basis for “The Million Dollar Duck,” a documentary feature film, directed by Brian Golden Davis and written by Martin J. Smith, premiering at The Slamdance Film Festival in January 2016. The book takes readers into the peculiar world of competitive duck painting as it played out during the 2010 Federal Duck Stamp Contest-the only juried art competition run by the U.S. government. Since 1934, the duck stamp, which is bought annually by hunters to certify their hunting license, has generated more than $750 million, and 98 cents of each collected dollar has been used to help purchase or lease 5.3 million acres of waterfowl habitat in the United States. As Martin J. Smith chronicles in his revealing narrative, within the microcosm of the duck stamp contest are intense ideological and cultural clashes between the mostly rural hunters who buy the stamps and the mostly suburban and urban birders and conservationists who decry the hunting of waterfowl. The competition also fuels dynamic tensions between competitors and judges, and among the invariably ambitious, sometimes obsessive and eccentric artists--including Minnesota's three fabled Hautman brothers, the "New York Yankees" of competitive duck painting. Martin Smith takes readers down an arcane and uniquely American rabbit hole into a wonderland of talent, ego, art, controversy, scandal, big money, and migratory waterfowl.

Book Duck Hunting in America

    Book Details:
  • Author : Steven Lahr
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2016-06-23
  • ISBN : 1514483130
  • Pages : 95 pages

Download or read book Duck Hunting in America written by Steven Lahr and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this piece of work is misleading in many respects. You might pick it up and peruse it thinking that wow, its a new waterfowl book. Well, youll find some. The core and idea of whats inside in reality is somewhat disguised. The title in essence is a reflection more of life and with some different perspectives. The writer has deep love of the Art of Waterfowling. Hes also a bird watcher and a long time member of the Cornell Ornithology Association. (Many accolades to this organization!). Think of the concept of this title as whats written is more of a reflection on the writer himself. Get All Your Ducks In A Row and well attempt to embark on some inner meanings. Hopefully, it will grow. The first book, Rantings of an Ivy League Mad Man, has a parallel. Lets get out the decoys and sit tight as we watch the morning come to full light. If youve been there with your camo on, you most likely wont be bored. Hopefully, we pass on this tradition to those we love because of what happens to waterfowl and human beings alike. Im trying to pass on a message. Some may struggle making the connection between the book title and its content. I hope they persevere. Hopefully youll grasp the concept as it is. These arent necessarily poems. I call them po-ms for better clarity. Youll see why. Enjoy, Steve C. Lahr
