Book The People We Were Before

Download or read book The People We Were Before written by Annabelle Thorpe and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2016-04-21 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If war is madness, how can love survive? Yugoslavia, summer 1979. A new village. A new life. But eight-year-old Miro knows the real reason why his family moved from the inland city of Knin to the sunkissed village of Ljeta on the Dalmatian Coast, a tragedy he tries desperately to forget. The Ljeta years are happy ones, though, and when he marries his childhood sweetheart, and they have a baby daughter, it seems as though life is perfect. However, storm clouds are gathering above Yugoslavia. War breaks out, and one split-second decision destroys the life Miro has managed to build. Driven by anger and grief, he flees to Dubrovnik, plunging himself into the hard-bitten world of international war reporters. There begins a journey that will take him ever deeper into danger: from Dubrovnik, to Sarajevo, to the worst atrocities of war-torn Bosnia, Miro realises that even if he survives, there can be no way back to his earlier life. The war will change him, and everyone he loves, forever. (P)2016 Headline Digital

Book Sveti Pavao Shipwreck

Download or read book Sveti Pavao Shipwreck written by Carlo Beltrame and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 2007 and 2012 the Department for Underwater Archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute from Zagreb and the Department of Humanistic Studies of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice collaborated in the recording, underwater excavation and analysis of the unusually well-preserved wreck of a 16th century Venetian merchantman in the Svetti Pavao shallow off the southern shore of the island of Mljet, Croatia. The shipwreck preserved many personal possessions of the crew as well as a number of bronze artillery pieces and the remains of a cargo of luxury and richly decorated ceramic material from Iznik and other oriental workshops. Although the excavation is not complete, this volume presents the results of the project so far. The methodological and technical aspects of the underwater investigation of the site, mainly by photogrammetry, are described; the historical and archaeological context of navigation in the late Medieval period in the eastern Mediterranean discussed; and the recovered artefacts described and catalogued in detail, together with the remains of the ship and its equipment that, because of depth and of problems of conservation, have been left in situ. The conservation and restoration of the finds are described in an appendix.

Chapters that focus on karst as an integrated system look at IUCN World Heritage sites, national parks, policy and regulation, measuring systematic disturbance, information management, and public environmental education. Book Introduction to the Dinaric Karst

Download or read book Introduction to the Dinaric Karst written by Nadja Zupan Hajna and published by Založba ZRC. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Radiotelegraph Radiotelephone Codes Prowords and Abbreviations

Download or read book Radiotelegraph Radiotelephone Codes Prowords and Abbreviations written by John W Alcorn VK2JWA and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-10-26 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What started out as a minor Project in 1987, blew out like the national debt so with all this accumulated info, it seemed worthwhile to produce the first book, here now is the Latest Online Edition. The sources and references have been many and varied and although the utmost care was taken, the Lists are far from complete and may contain errors. The original Codes etc were designed principally for marine use as this was the field in which radio was initially developed. The majority retain this influence but many have been modified and modernized to cover land and air applications. Technical terms have also varied as technology has changed however most abbreviations of the computer age have been omitted. These are specialist terms of that mode, not often encountered in telegraphy.
