Book Dual Phase Vacuum Extraction Technology for Soil and Ground Water Remediation

Download or read book Dual Phase Vacuum Extraction Technology for Soil and Ground Water Remediation written by BC. O'Melia and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil vapor extraction (SVE) has become a common, effective method to remediate soils contaminated by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The technology induces a soil gas flow through the vadose zone, which extracts VOCs into the soil gas being extracted. The Dual-Phase Vacuum Extraction (DVE) system uses a high vacuum source to extract both soil gas and ground water from the same extraction well. The creation of a two-phase flow in the extraction piping eliminates the need for a separate pumping system for ground-water recovery. The high vacuum can also induce a higher recovery of ground water than typical downhole pumping methods can provide.

Book Bioremediation Technologies

Download or read book Bioremediation Technologies written by Robert L. Irvine and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-01-08 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FROM THE INTRODUCTION This three-volume series, Bioremediation: Principles and Practice, provides state of the art description of advances in pollution treatment and reduction using biological means; identify and address, at a fundamental level, broad scientific and technological areas that are unique to the subject or theme and that must be understood if advances are to be made; and provide a comprehensive overview of new developments at the regulatory, desk-top, bench-scale, pilot scale, and full-scale levels. The series covers all media-air, water, and soil/sediment-and blends the talents, knowledge, and know-how of academic, industrial, governmental, and international contributors. The series addresses the removal of both hazardous and nonhazardous contaminants from the liquid, solid, and gas phase using biological processes. This includes the biological treatment of wastes of municipal and industrial origin; bioremediation of leachates, soils, and sediments; and biofiltration for contaminated gases.

Book Reclamation of Contaminated Land

Download or read book Reclamation of Contaminated Land written by C. Paul Nathanail and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-09-27 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land contamination is of global concern with many of the world’s industries potentially harming the environment and human health. Along with rapidly changing policy and technological developments, this is an interdisciplinary area in which successful contaminated land management depends on the expertise of and interaction between a number of scientific and engineering disciplines. Reclamation of Contaminated Land takes into account the different groups involved in contaminated land management and offers a flexible learning approach based on practical experience and research. It presents an overview of the general skills and knowledge required, encompassing both general management and regulatory practice and specific land contamination issues. Divided into two parts, Part I discusses site characterisation and the design of site investigations, and the central role of conceptual models and risk assessment in decision making. Part II discusses how risks from contaminated land are managed and the role of different remediation approaches to achieving this. This book is of great value for 2nd/3rd/4th year undergraduates and MSc students in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Environmental Management, Geography, Geology, Estate and Land Management. It is also key reading for undergraduates and MSc students in Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering and Environmental Chemistry, as well as professional planners and developers, and local authorities.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Contamination and Remediation Practices at Former and Present Military Bases outlines the different strategies that are useful in the investigation and subsequent remediation of military bases, Particular attention is paid to the pollution of groundwater. The book contains an excellent review of useful remediation techniques and several examples of their application to polluted military bases. Several mathematical models are demonstrated, showing their predictive value for real examples. A detailed list is given of chemical pollutants that can be found on a military base. Strategies are described for the investigation and determination of the future of a polluted military site. Examples are given, obtained from practical experience of dealing with old, contaminated sites.
