Book The Gulf Natural Gas Dual Pricing Regime

Download or read book The Gulf Natural Gas Dual Pricing Regime written by Justin Dargin and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stakeholders in the international economy have long considered energy a crucial aspect of national sovereignty - a commodity inherently political in nature. Because of its contentious nature, energy and natural resources have been the source of conflicts for a millennia. With the sharp increase of the international price of oil and natural gas from 2002-2008, energy subsidization in the energy-rich exporting countries assumed center stage. A narrow focus on this new dynamic, however, obscures the basic issue that developed and developing countries tend to view energy in fundamentally contradictory ways. For developed, OECD countries energy is primarily a tool used to promote the smooth running of the global economy. This book discusses the role and development of energy in emerging regions.

Book Trade the WTO and Energy Security

Download or read book Trade the WTO and Energy Security written by Sajal Mathur and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The linkages between WTO rules governing trade and energy security with a certain degree of focus on India are the main subject of this book. The edited volume brings together the views of academics, policymakers and experts with extensive experience covering WTO and international trade issues. The issues examined include mapping the linkages between trade and energy security in the WTO agreements, case law, accession and Doha negotiations; assessing the issues that could be raised by energy deficit or energy surplus countries at the WTO; analyzing the provisions of the ECT and NAFTA vis-à-vis the Indian policy framework and examining the trade regimes of selected OPEC members and other major suppliers of fossil fuels to India. While the Indian perspective is evident in the contributions, this book will also be of interest to an international audience, as trade, the WTO and energy security are global concerns and of relevance to all practitioners and academics working on these issues.

Book Natural Resource Pricing and Rents

Download or read book Natural Resource Pricing and Rents written by Andrey Vavilov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the economics of natural resource markets and pricing, as well as the field of natural resource economics in general. It presents the key contributions to this field of research, including the pioneering works and contemporary studies. The book highlights the basic principles and ideas underlying theoretical models of resource pricing. The models considered in the book underline the fundamental determinants of resource prices and the economic nature of rents for non-renewable and renewable resources. Besides the classical theory of exhaustible resource economics, the book includes several issues that are of high importance for global economic growth, such as the transition to alternative energy and the economics of climate change. The authors also consider the issues of commodity pricing and a resource cartel’s activity that are relevant to the world oil market. The book provides analytical solutions illustrated with numerical examples. It allows an intuitive understanding of the subject and the model inferences through graphical illustrations and an informal introduction. It, therefore, is a must-read for everybody interested in a better understanding of resource prices, resource markets, and resource economics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides one of the most comprehensive and compelling analysis of Non-Market Economies (NMEs) and their treatment under the current world trading system. In addition, the book explores recourses to trade remedy instruments other than anti-dumping to identify and address state-driven market distortions in the case of NMEs. Authored by leading practitioners and scholars, the chapters offer a detailed commentary and rich insights into the diverse approaches and methods used by anti-dumping investigation agencies of leading users. This book serves as an all-inclusive resource for discerning all facets of this issue, magnitude of the consequences, and potential threats to the delicate trading system. It is of particular relevance to economies-in-transition and newly acceding countries to the WTO. Perspectives on the direction of US trade policy Leaders from the past Administration, both sides of the aisle in the U.S. House of Representatives, labor, business, a leading NGO as well as leading journalists and writers offer views about where U.S. trade policy should go to secure America’s economic future. The global food crisis and how the trading system can help be part of the solution The run up of food prices internationally in 2007-08 and the efforts by many countries to restrict exports in the name of providing for citizens at home created some severe challenges for the global institutions and raised, within trade circles, the question of how trade could make a contribution to the alleviation of hunger and not exacerbate the problems of hunger.
