Book Introduction to Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engine Systems

Download or read book Introduction to Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engine Systems written by Lino Guzzella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal combustion engines still have a potential for substantial improvements, particularly with regard to fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility. These goals can be achieved with help of control systems. Modeling and Control of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) addresses these issues by offering an introduction to cost-effective model-based control system design for ICE. The primary emphasis is put on the ICE and its auxiliary devices. Mathematical models for these processes are developed in the text and selected feedforward and feedback control problems are discussed. The appendix contains a summary of the most important controller analysis and design methods, and a case study that analyzes a simplified idle-speed control problem. The book is written for students interested in the design of classical and novel ICE control systems.

Book Reviewing Clinical Trials

Download or read book Reviewing Clinical Trials written by Chinese University of Hong Kong and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this manual came from Pfizer in the US, which provided the Clinical Trials Centre at The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, PR China with a nonbinding grant for its development. The general project layout protocol was accepted by Pfizer in July 2009. Pfizer has not in any way interfered with the project, except for providing nonbinding comments to the final product. The entire text of this manual was written by Johan PE Karlberg. Marjorie A Speers provided considerable and essential comments on the contents and the first and subsequent drafts. A group of international human research protection experts mostly working in non-profit institutions or organisations - see Contributors for details - reviewed and provided important comments on the contents and final draft. It was solely created with the intention to promote human research protection of participants in clinical trials. This manual will be translated into numerous languages and is provided free of charge as an electronic file over the Internet (http://www.ClinicalTrialMagnifier.com) and offered in print for a fee. The objective beyond this project is to establish educational activities, developed around the manual, and jointly organised with leading academic institutions worldwide.

Book Theoretical Modelling of Aeroheating on Sharpened Noses Under Rarefied Gas Effects and Nonequilibrium Real Gas Effects

Download or read book Theoretical Modelling of Aeroheating on Sharpened Noses Under Rarefied Gas Effects and Nonequilibrium Real Gas Effects written by Zhi-Hui Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical Modelling of Aeroheating on Sharpened Noses under Rarefied Gas Effects and Nonequilibrium Real Gas Effects employs a theoretical modeling method to study hypersonic flows and aeroheating on sharpened noses under rarefied gas effects and nonequilibrium real gas effects that are beyond the scope of traditional fluid mechanics. It reveals the nonlinear and nonequilibrium features, discusses the corresponding flow and heat transfer mechanisms, and ultimately establishes an analytical engineering theory framework for hypersonic rarefied and chemical nonequilibrium flows. The original analytical findings presented are not only of great academic significance, but also hold considerable potential for applications in engineering practice. The study explores a viable new approach, beyond the heavily relied-upon numerical methods and empirical formulas, to the present research field, which could be regarded as a successful implementation of the idea and methodology of the engineering sciences.

Book Granular Gases

    Book Details:
  • Author : Thorsten Pöschel
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2008-01-11
  • ISBN : 3540445064
  • Pages : 454 pages

Download or read book Granular Gases written by Thorsten Pöschel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-11 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Granular Gases" are diluted many-particle systems in which the mean free path of the particles is much larger than the typical particle size, and where particle collisions occur dissipatively. The dissipation of kinetic energy can lead to effects such as the formation of clusters, anomalous diffusion and characteristic shock waves to name but a few. The book is organized as follows: Part I comprises the rigorous theoretical results for the dilute limit. The detailed properties of binary collisions are described in Part II. Part III contains experimental investigations of granular gases. Large-scale behaviour as found in astrophysical systems is discussed in Part IV. Part V, finally, deals with possible generalizations for dense granular systems.
