Subject headings are of two types: TEST descriptors and DSIS descriptors. The rules governing the selection of terms for these lists are taken from the Thesaurus of Engineering and Scientific Terms compiled by the US Department of Defense for TEST descriptors and from the DSIS Subject Heading List for most DSIS descriptors.
