Book Rural Road Maintenance and Energy Conservation with Dry Hydrants

Download or read book Rural Road Maintenance and Energy Conservation with Dry Hydrants written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper planning and installation of dry hydrants in wide rural areas with gravel roads, allows unprocessed water to be used more efficiently for road maintenance and fire protection. With the installation of 225 dry hydrants in nine parishes of Louisiana, tank trucks performing rural road maintenance have reduced fuel consumption by 50% because the water is now supplied to the road at regular intervals and it therefore more easily available. The better accessibility of the water also aids in better rural fire protection. Government funding for the project enabled a public service agency to organise the installation of the hydrants using volunteer labour. The project received a "Best in Category" Award form the Department of Energy's Energy Innovation Awards Program. Steps are already taken to expand the dry hydrant project to every parish in Louisiana.
