Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone has to eat to survive. The production of almost all food can be traced back to farmland in some way. Demand is growing for farmland as the world's population and global needs for food are rising. The supply of farmland is not changing, thus creating a severe imbalance in the supply of farmable land and demand for food. The world's population is expected to grow from 7 billion to over 9 billion by 2050. Over the same time period, food production must double. Global grain supplies are already at record low levels. If the US stopped producing corn, it would run out in less than 30 days and set off a domino effect that would bring the world to its knees. How can one capitalize on the increased global protein consumption and demand for food? An investment in farmland will provide a steady stream of income and capital gains due to the increasing global demand for agricultural commodities and limited supply of global arable land. The Investors' Guide to Farmland will guide you through the rational for investment in farmland, understanding the characteristic of farmland, and why it should become part of your portfolio.

A global study carried out by the FAO Investment Centre and the International Food Policy Research Institute, with support from the CGIAR Research Programme on Policies, Institutions and Markets and the FAO Research and Extension Unit, looks at agriculture human capital investments, from recent trends to promising initiatives in Cameroon, Chile, Côte d’Ivoire, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, Rwanda and the United States of America. It also includes 11 shorter case studies, ranging from pastoralist training centres to the inclusion of indigenous communities. Book Irrigated Farms in a Subhumid Cotton Area

Download or read book Irrigated Farms in a Subhumid Cotton Area written by Orlin James Scoville and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The W. C. Austin Project, in the cotton and cash-grain farming area of southwestern Oklahoma, represents on of the first attempts to introduce irrigation of a project type into a subhumid area. Before irrigation, cotton farms averaged about 240 acres and cash-grain farms about 320 acres. This multiple-purpose project was constructed to provide irrigation water, flood control, and a municipal water supply for the city of Altus. Water was delivered to a few acres in 1946, and to the entire project in 1950. Development of the project occurred in a period of favorable farm incomes. Farmers met costs of development largely from income or reserves, without going into debt.
