Book Sex Drugs and Body Counts

Download or read book Sex Drugs and Body Counts written by Peter Andreas and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2011-05-15 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least 200,000-250,000 people died in the war in Bosnia. "There are three million child soldiers in Africa." "More than 650,000 civilians have been killed as a result of the U.S. occupation of Iraq." "Between 600,000 and 800,000 women are trafficked across borders every year." "Money laundering represents as much as 10 percent of global GDP." "Internet child porn is a $20 billion-a-year industry." These are big, attention-grabbing numbers, frequently used in policy debates and media reporting. Peter Andreas and Kelly M. Greenhill see only one problem: these numbers are probably false. Their continued use and abuse reflect a much larger and troubling pattern: policymakers and the media naively or deliberately accept highly politicized and questionable statistical claims about activities that are extremely difficult to measure. As a result, we too often become trapped by these mythical numbers, with perverse and counterproductive consequences. This problem exists in myriad policy realms. But it is particularly pronounced in statistics related to the politically charged realms of global crime and conflict-numbers of people killed in massacres and during genocides, the size of refugee flows, the magnitude of the illicit global trade in drugs and human beings, and so on. In Sex, Drugs, and Body Counts, political scientists, anthropologists, sociologists, and policy analysts critically examine the murky origins of some of these statistics and trace their remarkable proliferation. They also assess the standard metrics used to evaluate policy effectiveness in combating problems such as terrorist financing, sex trafficking, and the drug trade.

When Joseph tries to change after finding the woman that he's always wanted, Ms. Melissa Hollister, things became a problem. He can't seem to find a job with his long criminal record, and the streets is calling him. Missy truly tried to keep him from the life of crime that eventually grabs her up as well. Living in a world filled with both exotic and erotic sex, violence, disloyalty and drug dealings, Joseph becomes the clear focus of street violence. He has been shot at and stabbed multiple times by people who envy him for his known place in the game. None of this stops Joseph. In fact, Joseph doesn't stop despite the fact that the FEDS just picked up a four year old gun charge against him. He soon began to realize that his loyal woman and precious children are far too important to him to ever lose. Joseph truly makes another attempt to change. A paradigm change which came too late. Joseph never thought he would be betrayed by the disloyalty of a family member and many others, which helped the Government trap him and then lied to him about their assistance in the Government's web of justice.

Book Drugs Sex And Crime

Download or read book Drugs Sex And Crime written by Danilo Antonio Baltieri and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. New Dominant Logic of Marketing verstanden.

Book Reconsidering Sex Crimes and Offenders

Download or read book Reconsidering Sex Crimes and Offenders written by Laura J. Zilney and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-07-23 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This examination of our nation's sex crime laws and the social attitudes behind them argues that many citizens are being pursued as sex offenders for nonviolent and oftentimes consensual sexual behaviors. Cutting through the hysteria and hype, Reconsidering Sex Crimes and Offenders: Prosecution or Persecution? argues that while convicted violent sex offenders certainly should be punished, many laws targeting minor sexual offenses are outdated, overly severe, and too concerned with satisfying public outrage driven by distortions, misconceptions, and sensationalistic media coverage. Reconsidering Sex Crimes and Offenders is sure to challenge readers' understanding of who a sex offender is, how they should be treated, and how best to protect the community from such offenders. The book looks at how the legal definitions of certain offenses have changed over time and then explores a series of real-life case studies. Readers will discover how some citizens have been targeted and punished for consensual acts—including homosexuality, polygamy, and pornography. Additional coverage considers a number of highly controversial laws—from residency restrictions to the death penalty—and the media's role in fueling public support for them.

Book Sex Drugs Ratt Roll

Download or read book Sex Drugs Ratt Roll written by Stephen Pearcy and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to heavy metal rock 'n' roll, circa 1980, when all you needed was the right look, burning ambition, and a chance. Stephen Pearcy and supergroup Ratt hit the bull's-eye. Cranking out metal just as metal got hot, Ratt was the perfect band at the perfect time, and their hit single "Round and Round" became a top-selling anthem. As Ratt scrambled up a wall of fame and wealth, so they experienced the gut-wrenching free fall, after too many hours in buses, planes, and limos; too many women; too many drugs; and all the personality clashes and ego trips that marked the beginning of the end. Pearcy offers a stunningly honest self-portrait of a man running on the fumes of ambition and loneliness as the party crashed. His rock 'n' roll confessional, by turns incredible, hilarious, and lyrical, is a story of survival--and a search for the things that matter most.--From publisher description.

Book Drink Spiking and Predatory Drugging

Download or read book Drink Spiking and Predatory Drugging written by Pamela Donovan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses common perceptions about drink-spiking, a pervasive fear for many and sometimes a troubling reality. Ideas about spiked drinks have shaped the way we think about drugs, alcohol, criminal law, risk, nightspots, and socializing for over one hundred and fifty years, since the rise of modern anaesthesia and synthetic 'pharma-ubiquity'. The book offers a wide-ranging look at the constantly shifting cultural and gender politics of 'psycho-chemical treachery'. It provides rich case histories, assesses evolving scientific knowledge, and analyses the influence of social forces as disparate as Temperance and the acid enthusiasts of the 1960s. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, the book will be of great interest to upper-level students and scholars of criminal law, forensic science, public health, and social movements.
