It meets the needs of civilian, military, hobbyists, and professional operators alike so that critical flight details can be tracked. The logbook has sufficient room for more than 300 flights with space to record the equipment details, location, aircraft category, flight conditions, type of operating time, number of takeoff/launch and landing/recovery, and the total duration of the flight. The remarks area provides space to note the mission, crew, control method (such as RC, first person view or RPV and autonomous), battery number and configuration or other information to correlate to the flight controller mission logs. Italso includes a summary page for owner/operator (such as contact details, certificates and ratings, and recurrency training), a briefing/academic instruction log, a page for equipment and hours flown, and initial and recurrent training endorsements.

Book Getting Started with Drones and Model Airplanes

Download or read book Getting Started with Drones and Model Airplanes written by Patrick Sherman (Drone aircraft specialist) and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Getting Started with Drones and Model Airplanes has been written for the beginning pilot, who wants to understand how these marvelous machines work and how to fly them safely. Buying a drone or a model airplane is really just the beginning of the journey: You must register your aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, complete a testing and certification process and then figure out how to safely operate your machine in (or to avoid) the busiest and most complex airspace in the entire world. It can be all be a little overwhelming for a beginner, but luckily you've got an expert co-pilot to guide you every step of the way: Patrick Sherman is an award-winning instructor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University who has been flying and teaching people about drones for more than 10 years. In this book, he takes complex subjects and explains them in simple language with pictures and diagrams to make these concepts easy to understand. In Getting Started with Drones and Model Airplanes, you will learn: - Different rules apply depending on whether you are flying for fun or flying to make money, and different training and certification is required. - Fundamental principles of aerodynamics, so you can understand how different kinds of flying machines - like airplanes and helicopters - work. - How to maneuver a drone or a model airplane using the ubiquitous two-stick controller used by both recreational and commercial pilots. - What are the different parts inside a drone or a model airplane, and how they work together to make it fly. - The importance of flying safely and how you can avoid running into other aircraft or hurting people on the ground. - Simple techniques for taking great aerial photographs and how to evaluate a new flying site before you launch your aircraft. This book is the perfect primer-whether you are teaching yourself how to fly, giving it as a gift along with a drone or model airplane, looking to get into commercial drone operations, or studying robotics and STEM subjects in school related to aviation"--

Book Domesticating Drones

Download or read book Domesticating Drones written by Henry H Perritt, Jr. and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public debate over civilian use of drones is intensifying. Variously called "unmanned aircraft systems", "unmanned aerial vehicles", "remotely piloted aircraft", or simply "drones", they are available for purchase by anyone for a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. They have strikingly useful capabilities. They can carry high-definition video cameras, infrared imaging equipment, sensors for aerial surveying and mapping. They can stream their video in real time. They have GPS, inertial guidance, magnetic compasses, altimeters, and sonic ground sensors that permit them to fly a preprogrammed flightplan, take off and land autonomously, hover and orbit autonomously with the flick of a switch on the DRone Operator’s ("DROPs") console. The benefits they can confer on law enforcement, journalism, land-use planning, real estate sales, critical infrastructure protection and environmental preservation activities are obvious. However, their proliferation in response to these demands will present substantial risks to aviation safety. How to ensure the safety of drone operations perplexes aviation regulators around the world. They are inexpensive consumer products, unsuited for traditional requirements for manned aircraft costing hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars and flown only by licensed pilots who have dedicated significant parts of their lives and their wealth to obtaining licenses. Regulatory agencies in Europe and Asia are ahead of US regulators in creating spaces for commercial use. Over the next several years, legal requirements must be crystallized, existing operators of helicopter and airplanes must refine their policy positions and their business plans to take the new technologies into account, and all businesses from the smallest entrepreneur to large conglomerates must decide whether and how to use them. Domesticating Drones offers rigorous engineering, economics, legal and policy theory and doctrine on this important and far-reaching development within aviation.
