Download or read book The Beer Bible written by Jeff Alworth and published by Workman Publishing. This book was released on 2015-08-11 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The only book you need to understand the world’s most popular beverage. I swear on a stack of these, it’s a thumping good read.”––John Holl, editor of All About Beer Magazine and author of The American Craft Beer Cookbook Imagine sitting in your favorite pub with a friend who happens to be a world-class expert on beer. That’s this book. It covers the history: how we got from gruel-beer to black IPA in 10,000 years. The alchemy: malts, grains, and the miracle of hops. The variety: dozens of styles and hundreds of recommended brews (including suggestions based on your taste preferences), divided into four sections––Ales, Wheat Beers, Lagers, and Tart and Wild Ales––and all described in mouthwatering detail. The curiosity: how to read a Belgian label; the talk of two Budweisers; porter, the first superstyle; and what, exactly, a lager is. The pleasure. Because you don’t merely taste beer, you experience it. Winner of a 2016 IACP Award “Covers a lot of ground, from beer styles and brewing methods to drinking culture past and present. There’s something for beer novices and beer geeks alike.”––Ken Grossman, founder, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. “Erudite, encyclopedic, and enormously entertaining aren’t words you normally associate with beer, but The Beer Bible is no ordinary beer book. As scinitillating, diverse, and refreshing as man’s oldest alcoholic beverage itself.”––Steve Raichlen, author of Project Smoke and How to Grill
Download or read book Callin out the Gays written by Larkin Ellzey and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thirty-eight years, author Larkin Ellzey lived the quintessential Southern and American life in nearly every respect. Every respect but one: he is the last person on earth who wants to be gay, but he is, and there is nothing he can do to change it. As such, he wants to change the stigma that encompasses the natural occurrence of same-sex attraction. In Callin’ Out the Gays, he highlights the backward reality of homosexuality and demonstrates how everyone—gay, straight, and in between—has handled the concept in a devastatingly wrong way. Focusing on the societal and political issues facing homosexual people, he proposes a swift shift in strategy and a plan for rebranding. Employing thought-provoking rationale, Ellzey presents a plea to utilize all resources in putting forward a campaign to improve the public’s misguided perception of homosexuality. On the other side of the spectrum, he questions the motives of straight people actively opposed to gay people, breaks down the flawed religious argument, and encourages gay people who are faking straight to help homosexuals out with their numbers issue. With a little bit of humor, a dose of sarcasm, tons of pop culture and political references, and an age of the internet style, Callin’ Out the Gays offers Ellzey’s unique personal story in the form of a proposal to society for a refresher and a revived outlook—one focused on reasonability as well as accountability.
Download or read book Remember These Things Neighborhood Connections written by George M.Watson, Jr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three middle-aged men who grew up in various states along the Northeast corridor migrated to the Washington D.C. area and by co-incidence moved into the same newly built neighborhood situated inside the Capital Beltway. They become friends practically immediately since they were of the same age group as were the ages of their wives and children. What cements their acquaintance and friendship is when they became aware they were all Vietnam veterans serving in different years and in divergent capacities, one an officer in the Army, the other an enlisted man in the same Army unit with the third serving as an enlisted Marine. They socialize often with their families and among themselves through children's sports events. Their youngsters attend the same elementary school which enhances their social and neighborhood connections. And there are many neighborhood gatherings that all neighbors were welcome to attend. What breaks this placid neighborhood scene are the recent activities of a robber/ opportunist rapist who perplexes the local police departments from advancing any type of lead. The vets through their walks and wanderings with their dogs in Rock Creek Park locate a possible hideout. They share their thoughts and memories of wartime experiences together and attempt to solve the issue without the use of lethal weapons. The story is about their quest for justice and their intimate friendship that proves that not all Vietnam vets turned to drugs and alcohol and became homeless vagabonds and isolated forest dwellers. Many of them like these three guys who still carried their wartime memories succeeded in life and became responsible professionals and caring citizens.

Download or read book The Liberal Redneck Manifesto written by Trae Crowder and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Liberal Rednecks—a Southern-based stand-up comedy group known for their scathing political satire—celebrate all that’s good about Dixie while leading a progressive revolution toward a New South. The American South is home to some of the best music, cuisine, athletics, whiskey, and weather the country has to offer, but its reputation as a haven for its “right-wing, Bible-beatin’, assault-rifle-totin’” citizens precedes it—and, according to the Liberal Rednecks, rightfully so. Yet, as they explain it, the situation in the South is far more complex than “hypocritical, nose-up-in-the-air Yankees” give it credit for. And they should know—they are native sons. Whip-smart, hilarious, and incisive, the Liberal Rednecks are lifelong, down-home Southern boys who aren’t afraid to call out the outdated traditions and intolerant attitudes of their native land—while also shining a proud light on the most misunderstood region of the country. Their mission: to provide a manifesto for young progressives south of the Mason-Dixon line to rise up and claim their homeland—without abandoning the best of their culture. Exploring race, class, guns, religion, drug addiction, alcoholism, and homophobia, the Liberal Rednecks tell it like it is while challenging stereotypes at every turn. Fresh, funny, and surprising, The Liberal Redneck Manifesto gives us a vision of Dixieland as it exists now—and what it could become.

Download or read book Drinking Occasions written by Dwight B. Heath and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to describe the variety of drinking occasions that exist around the world, primarily in modern, industrialized countries. As such, it celebrates the diversity of normal drinking behavior and illustrates a wide range of beneficial drinking patterns. Attention is also paid to the relations between drink and culture that prevail in non-Western societies and in developing countries. The aims of the book are twofold: to deal directly with the challenge of how to define responsible drinking in the face of the world's many different drinking styles, and to portray the many ways in which people have thought about or used alcohol as an integral part of their culture
