Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I sit and observe the way the young, the middle age and yes some of the elderly women dress for church, God has inspired me to write about how we the Christian Woman should dress. Yes, we should feel free to wear whatever our hearts so desire, but there is a way that we should enter before the presence of the Lord. The Bible lets us know that we are of Royal Priesthood and that we are children of the King. There is a way we the Christian Women should present ourselves before the King. There are certain guide-lines that we must follow. We dont just go before the King in any ole thing and we must worship in the beauty of holiness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Beauty of Holiness: The Caroline Divines and Their Writings offers an expansive and detailed portrait of the continued maturation of Anglican theology and devotion in the central half of the seventeenth century. The Caroline Divines have long been hailed as the patrons of an Anglican ‘golden age’. Their emphasis upon liturgical renewal and development, like their emphases upon learning and piety, have had a pervasive influence on the Anglican ethos that extends down to our own day. The Beauty of Holiness includes selections from key figures such as Lancelot Andrewes, John Cosin, and Jeremy Taylor, but also expands the canon of Caroline divinity to include lay writings, some of which were published posthumously. Traditional topics such as sacramental theology and private devotion are complimented by readings on poetry as a spiritual discipline, natural theology, and the importance of family prayers. Chapters survey diverse facets of Anglican orthodoxy such as liturgical practice, the cult of King Charles the Martyr, and defenses of the celebration of Christmas, while an introductory essay sets these developments within the historical context. The Beauty of Holiness thus functions as both an introduction to the Anglican past and a catechism for the Anglican present.

If He can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being there is? Bestselling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God— we misunderstand His holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. In these pages, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that’s exactly what makes Him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting Him.

Download or read book Beauty and Holiness written by James Alfred Martin, Jr. and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-14 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this broad historical and critical overview based on a lifetime of scholarship, James Alfred Martin, Jr., examines the development of the concepts of beauty and holiness as employed in theories of aesthetics and of religion. The injunction in the Book of Psalms to "worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness" addressed a tradition that has comprehended holiness primarily in terms of ethical righteousness--a conception that has strongly influenced Western understandings of religion. As the author points out, however, the Greek forbears of Western thought, as well as many Eastern traditions, were and are more broadly concerned with the pursuit of beauty, truth, and goodness as ideals of human excellence, that is, with the "holiness of beauty." In this work Martin describes a philosophical stance that should prove to be most productive for the dialogue between aesthetics and religion. Beginning with the treatment of beauty and holiness in Hebrew, Greek, and classical Christian thought, the author traces the emergence of modern theories of aesthetics and religion in the Enlightenment. He then outlines the role of aesthetics in the theories of religion proposed by Otto, Eliade, van der Leeuw, and Tillich, in the cultural anthropology of Geertz, and in the thought of Santayana, Dewey, Whitehead, Heidegger, and Wittgenstein. In a global context Martin explores the relation of aesthetic theory to religious thought in the traditions of India, China, and Japan and concludes with reflections on the viability of modern aesthetic and religious theory in the light of contemporary cultural and methodological pluralism. Book The Beauty of Holiness and the Holiness of Beauty

Download or read book The Beauty of Holiness and the Holiness of Beauty written by John Saward and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beauty will save the world,"" said Dostoyevski. This book is a study of two powerful ways in which true beauty shines upon the world - in the lives of the saints and in the works of Christian art, ""the beauty of holiness and the holiness of beauty"". This book is a unique and unprecedented meditation on the beauty of Christ and His saints. It centers on several works of art (reproduced in this book) of a saint - Blessed John Fiesole, known to the world as Fra Angelico. Drawing on Angelico's own theological sources, Saward has written a book not on art history but on the splendor of Catholic truth. Beauty is the splendor of truth, the attractive radiance of truth. This new book is intended to help Christians grow in wonder at the glory of Divine Revelation, to which both the Church's saints and the Church's art bear witness. Illustrated with Angelico's color art.

Book The Right Kind of Strong

Download or read book The Right Kind of Strong written by Mary A. Kassian and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning author Mary Kassian provides readers a biblical guide to becoming the strong, resilient, capable women God created them to be. Our culture teaches us that it's important for women to be strong. The Bible agrees. Unfortunately, culture's idea of what makes a woman strong doesn't always align with the Bible's. As a result, Christians often have a skewed view of what constitutes strength. In The Right Kind of Strong, Mary Kassian delves into Paul's exhortation in 2 Timothy about the women of the church in Ephesus and uncovers warnings and truths about seven habits that can sap women's strength. She helps readers avoid these pitfalls by carefully considering the people they allow into their lives, taking control of their minds by taking every thought captive, quickly and regularly confessing sin, intentionally engaging their emotions, living out what they’re learning, developing confident convictions, and embracing their human weakness and leaning on the Lord. She reveals how, by implementing these seven habits, Christian women can walk in freedom and grow to be strong God's way.
