Book The Other Side

Download or read book The Other Side written by Juan Pablo Villalobos and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning Mexican author Juan Pablo Villalobos explores illegal immigration with this emotionally raw and timely nonfiction book about ten Central American teens and their journeys to the United States. You can't really tell what time it is when you're in the freezer. Every year, thousands of migrant children and teens cross the U.S.-Mexico border. The journey is treacherous and sometimes deadly, but worth the risk for migrants who are escaping gang violence and poverty in their home countries. And for those refugees who do succeed? They face an immigration process that is as winding and multi-tiered as the journey that brought them here. In this book, award-winning Mexican author Juan Pablo Villalobos strings together the diverse experiences of eleven real migrant teenagers, offering readers a beginning road map to issues facing the region. These timely accounts of courage, sacrifice, and survival—including two fourteen-year-old girls forming a tenuous friendship as they wait in a frigid holding cell, a boy in Chicago beginning to craft his future while piecing together his past in El Salvador, and cousins learning to lift each other up through angry waters—offer a rare and invaluable window into the U.S.–Central American refugee crisis. In turns optimistic and heartbreaking, The Other Side balances the boundless hope at the center of immigration with the weight of its risks and repercussions. Here is a necessary read for young people on both sides of the issue.

Book Gilligan s Dreams

Download or read book Gilligan s Dreams written by Dreama Denver and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For almost 30 years I was married to the man the rest of the world knew as Gilligan. Almost five decades of reruns have made his television character iconic, but the Bob Denver I knew and loved was legendary to me for his courage, his commitment to his severely autistic son and his love for the wife of his dreams, maybe the reason he called me Dreams. Devoting the last 21 years of his life to our son Colin speaks volumes about Bob Denver, the man. Our love story is one for the ages. Anyone who knew us in our years together will tell you that. Our devotion to each other and to Colin was complete, and the courage of this man during the last six months of his life exemplifies the definition of the word. This is the story of a man and woman who made vows to each other and kept them. This is the story of parents facing the challenge of autism together, never wavering in their love for each other or their son. This is the story of Bob and me, two imperfect people who fit perfectly together. Losing Bob was the hardest thing I've ever faced, but his love left me stronger, more focused and in the end, able to survive even when I thought I couldn't. Being loved by this man was the greatest gift of my life. For every challenge we faced and every minute we spent together, I love you, Bob Denver.

Book excerpt: For fans of Sarah Dessen and Mary H.K. Choi, this lyrical and emotionally driven novel follows Alina, a young aspiring dancer who suffers a devastating injury and must face a world without ballet—as well as the darker side of her former dream. Alina Keeler was destined to dance, but then a terrifying fall shatters her leg—and her dreams of a professional ballet career along with it. After a summer healing (translation: eating vast amounts of Cool Ranch Doritos and binging ballet videos on YouTube), she is forced to trade her pre-professional dance classes for normal high school, where she reluctantly joins the school musical. However, rehearsals offer more than she expected—namely Jude, her annoyingly attractive castmate she just might be falling for. But to move forward, Alina must make peace with her past and face the racism she experienced in the dance industry. She wonders what it means to yearn for ballet—something so beautiful, yet so broken. And as broken as she feels, can she ever open her heart to someone else? Touching, romantic, and peppered with humor, this debut novel explores the tenuousness of perfectionism, the possibilities of change, and the importance of raising your voice.

Book The Other Side of the Curtain

Download or read book The Other Side of the Curtain written by Nadia Judith Bijaoui and published by . This book was released on 2022-12-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Other Side of the Curtain - And the Power of Dreaming One Life Assessed from Dreams Post-Analysis The story of a mother's miracle when she gave life twice to her daughter declared dead after a motorcycle accident. A winter day, a Midwest airport closed down during a snowstorm. Nadia Judith is among the many passengers stranded in between flights. A woman sits next to Nadia. Shortly after, the woman reveals that she has just survived a serious disease. Nadia tells her words of understanding. The woman cries and says that nobody talked to her that way. Nobody understood so well what she went through. The woman thanks Nadia who tells her that she had a similar experience, once. This happened during one of the time-periods when the author put this book aside. The change from this woman's face from devastated to radiant, made her realize that she could help other people. Instead of a motorcycle accident fatal statistic, The Other Side of The Curtain is an amazing non-fiction account of brain injury, clinical death, and coma survival in France that a dream had predicted; while other dreams provided messages for healing. Years later, in Los Angeles, the author began a secret search to understand beyond being a miracle. She found seven elements that made her survival a reality. Decoding her dreams and revisiting her past, the author found out that after one long year of anguish, her Death Wish (Freud) in 1969 was the consequence of the violence of May 1968 in France. "The Other Side of The Curtain is a compelling memoir of a woman whose life has been dotted with both joy and tragedy, but always with courage. Spirituality mixes with shocking true tales and the history of the past in her memorable book. Bijaoui grew up in the South of France. She moved to the United States to escape the memories of her motorcycle crash" (A. House). But they are things in life that one cannot forget.

Book Emails from the Other Side

    Book Details:
  • Author : Tom Fagan
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-03-15
  • ISBN : 9781723550164
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Emails from the Other Side written by Tom Fagan and published by . This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here arrives proof that dreams do not come from our subconscious minds. They come from something outside ourselves that gives messages from the Other Side. Tom Fagan documents dreams then offers insightful interpretations of their meaning. The astounding aspect is that these dreams capture universal truths that can benefit everyone. When a character in a dream asks "When will you settle your account with the burglar?" he speaks of transcending self destructive thinking. In this book the idea that permeates the writing is that dreams come from something other than ourselves and they convey meaning. If you pay attention to their meaning you enhance your power to accomplish whatever you face in the world. It requires a careful observer to document a series of dream messages and to skillfully write them. Fagan triumphs in that endeavor. When you dream you enter a state of super consciousness. That super consciousness never deceives you, it never misdirects you, it always reveals truth if you make the effort to apply it to your life as if someone on the Other Side is sending you an email. In addition to insightful messages the dreams that Fagan writes include lots of famous people visiting from the Other Side. Ernest Hemingway appears in one of Fagan's dreams as if lending encouragement to Fagan's literary efforts. Similarly, Marilyn Monroe visits Tom in his dream and expresses understanding that Tom has not been treated right by the people he has been dealing with. The effect of Marilyn Monroe is to express approval of Tom's character and values, and to give him a sign of encouragement for his career as a writer. Other well known people who appear in this dream journal include Albert Einstein and Ben Franklin. At the end God makes an appearance and gives Tom a message. The message is that Tom will have enough time to get his writing out. The message for everyone is that time is a gift and you should not waste it. Whatever talent God has given you, make use of it. Dreaming is like watching a movie which you did not create. Since you don't know where the story is going the dream creator always has the element of surprise. Most dreams present a story based on a problem, such as a room filling up with water and you have to do something or get electrocuted when the water reaches the electrical cord. Almost every good story has a problem in it and the dream creator knows how to tell a compelling story. A writer can learn a lot about story telling just from studying how dreams work because they are likely to be storytelling from a master.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was born as a result of lucid dreams that I spontaneously began to have during my pregnancy. Initially, I addressed with a certain indifference, being a very pragmatic person and with an internal need to have evidence. Evidence that of course I didn't have. As if to prove the opposite, lucid dreams continued with even greater force. Highly colored images, names, dates, but especially an intense range of emotions, some of which were unknown to me, which led me to the brink of despair. After three years of intense feelings and a few regressions sessions I find myself another woman. A different version of the one that started this journey. My value system has changed, my need for spirituality has increased, and I have explained many of my attitudes, but also my fears. This manuscript is the result of a few of those lucid dreams, a lot of open and closed wounds, that's what I call a past life. I am not pretending that anyone believes that this manuscript is evidence of past lives, but for me it is one. I am not a native English speaker, and my translation may suffer from certain deficiencies, so please treat the manuscript with benevolence.
