Book excerpt: Poetry is my therapy, my meditation, a world quite close to the real one, and yet in another dimension. There are no rules, no restrictions, no rights or wrongs about poetry. Perhaps that is why it is so liberating. This is the third volume in my poetry collection. It is called Imagine, and it will show you fantasy and nature details, both the light and the dark ones, which inspire me, frighten me and respresent worlds entirely their own.

Book Useful Verses

  • Publisher : Pan Macmillan

  • ISBN : 1509824200
  • Pages : 81 pages

Download or read book Useful Verses written by Richard Osmond and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2017-03-23 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Seamus Heaney First Collection Poetry Prize Richard Osmond's debut collection Useful Verses follows in the tradition of the best nature writing, being as much about the human world as the natural, the present as the past: Osmond, a professional forager, has a deep knowledge of flora and fauna as they appear in both natural and human history, as they are depicted in both folklore and herbal - but he views them through a wholly contemporary lens. Chamomile is discussed through quantum physics, ants through social media, wood sorrel through online gambling, and mugwort through a traffic cone. In each case, Osmond offers an arresting and new perspective, and makes that hidden world that lives and breathes beside us vividly part of our own. This is a fiercely inventive, darkly witty and brilliantly observed debut from a voice unlike any other you have read before - and as far from any quaint and conservative notion of 'nature poetry' as it is possible to get.

Book Subjecting Verses

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Allen Miller
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2009-01-10
  • ISBN : 1400825938
  • Pages : 335 pages

Download or read book Subjecting Verses written by Paul Allen Miller and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-10 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The elegy flared into existence, commanded the cultural stage for several decades, then went extinct. This book accounts for the swift rise and sudden decline of a genre whose life span was incredibly brief relative to its impact. Examining every major poet from Catullus to Ovid, Subjecting Verses presents the first comprehensive history of Latin erotic elegy since Georg Luck's. Paul Allen Miller harmoniously weds close readings of the poetry with insights from theoreticians as diverse as Jameson, Foucault, Lacan, and Zizek. In welcome contrast to previous, thematic studies of elegy--efforts that have become bogged down in determining whether particular themes and poets were pro- or anti-Augustan--Miller offers a new, "symptomatic" history. He asks two obvious but rarely posed questions: what historical conditions were necessary to produce elegy, and what provoked its decline? Ultimately, he argues that elegiac poetry arose from a fundamental split in the nature of subjectivity that occurred in the late first century--a split symptomatic of the historical changes taking place at the time. Subjecting Verses is a major interpretive feat whose influence will reach across classics and literary studies. Linking the rise of elegy with changes in how Romans imagined themselves within a rapidly changing society, it offers a new model of literary theory that neither reduces the poems to a reflection of their context nor examines them in a vacuum.

Download or read book Decoding Your Dreams written by Jennifer LeClaire and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2018-12-04 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is God saying to you in your dreams? Decoding Your Dreams is a beginner’s guide to understanding the true source of our dreams, dream classifications, and even dream symbols. This book answers questions like: Can we control our dreams? I used to dream all the time. Why has my dream life suddenly ceased? Should I pray for the gift of dream interpretation? What does it mean if I see people in my dreams who have already passed away? When do I share a dream I’ve received and when do I keep it to myself? Where does déjà vu fit into the world of dreams? Why should I pay attention to my children’s dreams? There are dozens of mentions of dreams in the Bible. From Abraham to Joseph, from Daniel all the way to Pontius Pilot’s wife, God has communicated with His people through dreams throughout recorded history. Why would God choose to speak to us while we sleep? Perhaps it’s because we are too distracted during the day to sit still long enough for Him to share the deep secrets of His heart. Jennifer LeClaire is convinced God speaks to us in ways that are very personal. At times he may use pictures, memories, impressions, or even a still small voice. Let Decoding Your Dreams help you embrace your Spirit-inspired dreams!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author thoroughly examines the pentateuchal elohistic source, its structural unity and its relationship to the yahwistic source. His conclusions differ considerably from the accepted paradigm in the following ways: 1) In contrast to current scholarly opinions, it is assumed that E is the first basic pentateuchal source and that it predates J. J functions as E’s first supplementary redactor – much as F. M. Cross, among others, conceived of P’s redaction of J. 2) The name “Elohim” is used exclusively by the elohistic source even after Exodus 3 while the verses in Exodus 3 revealing Yahweh’s name can be shown to be later additions. 3) Instead of the fragmentary source described by scholars, this study demonstrates the literary unity of E.
