Download or read book The Serious Pursuit of Happiness written by Henry S. Miller and published by . This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timeless summary of everything scientific research has proven you ever need to know to live your best life, The Serious Pursuit of Happiness is written as a potentially life-changing combination of 10% textbook, 80% happiness roadmap, and 10% action planner. Just 3 hours of reading time is all you need to invest to learn what you need to know to live the happiest and most fulfilling life possible! Here's why: Most people, when asked if they would like to be happy, reply along these lines: "Sure. Just tell me what to do!" And that's exactly what this book does. Rich in prescribed actions and rooted in comprehensive research - Miller's book is unparalleled in its ability to help the reader learn exactly what to do - and what not to do - to flourish and thrive - beginning now. Deliberately designed to be a prescriptive, one-stop happiness shop, this classic and timeless "how to" book is the ultimate self-help guide to well being - containing over 400 specific, practical, powerful, and proven strategies and actions that individuals can begin to easily implement on their own - immediately - to live happier, more rewarding, and more meaningful lives. The promise of Miller's book is that readers around the world can read one small, companion-sized book and learn literally everything that has been proven about specifically how people should think, how they should act, what kind of person they should be, and what exactly they should actually do to flourish and thrive to live as "happily ever after" as is possible. Intended to be both a "quick read" as well as a lifetime companion guidebook, this one compact-sized book is packed with the results from Miller's over 10 years of "researching the research." This in-depth process included a summarization of over 40 years of happiness research including hundreds of studies by leading psychologists the world over, the findings of the revolutionary and still-emerging new science of Positive Psychology, recent advances by biologists and neurologists, and the ancient wisdom of revered philosophers - all deftly synthesized down into six powerful and proven imperatives. Simply organized into a three phase "journey" to a happier life that is easy to understand and follow - The Serious Pursuit of Happiness is a 'must-read' for individuals IF they are serious about learning exactly what to do to invite and then keep happiness in their life. It not only lights the paths to follow by spelling out in detail the proven actions to add to their day-to-day life to flourish - it also highlights the myths and faulty thinking that are barriers to achieving lasting meaning, fulfillment, and joy - and need to be avoided. For companies and other organizations with enlightened leaders, Miller's book offers an opportunity to "do well by doing good" for their employees by giving them the gift of a potential lifetime of happiness - while also helping to enable them to perform at a higher level. Research has shown the following to be true: * Psychologically well employees consistently exhibit higher levels of engagement, performance, productivity, loyalty, and commitment. * Between 10% and 25% of job performance variance is correlated with overall well being. * Employees who are unhappy in life are unlikely to find job satisfaction at work. * Happier employees have reduced absenteeism, reduced "presenteeism," less stress, and reduced turnover while working with increased energy, creativity, innovation, and dedication. They display an increased ability to cope with life's realities and have an improved perspective on why they are working so hard - and why they should be if they aren't now. And they are healthier. Any and all companies and organizations who want to maximize their investment in human capital, attract and retain the best and the brightest, and remain competitive in the global world of today and tomorrow should consider making this book required reading for all stakeholders.

Download or read book Art and Autoradiography written by Maryan Wynn Ainsworth and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 1982 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports the most significant results of a scientific study of thirty-nine paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The works under investigation are by seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish artists, mainly Rembrandt and his school. Art and Autoradiography publishes data obtained by the use of a new technique: neutron activation autoradiography. Through this method, it is now possible to study the substructure of paintings, their genesis, and their condition in far greater detail than had been possible with the conventional techniques of X-ray radiography and infrared photography. As a result, an artist's creative process can now be studied very closely. Autoradiography provides significant information for resolving questions about an artist's oeuvre and about workshop variations, attribution, dating, and even doubted authenticity. -- Metropolitan Museum of Art website.

Download or read book A Concise History of Canadian Painting written by Dennis R. Reid and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1988 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "First published in 1973, this book quickly became an indispensable short history of Canadian painting and was reprinted many times. For this Second Edition the text has been revised to incorporate new information--and, in some places, new interpretations--and expanded. The First Edition studied Canadian painting to 1965, masterfully combining visual description, anecdotes, and aesthetic evaluation with full accounts of the careers of most of the leading painters, beginning in the French colonial period. This Second Edition covers painting to 1980. A long final chapter treats a crucial fifteen years when there developed in Canada a tremendous interest in other art forms and apparent falling off of interest in painting. In fact the cry was heard--throughout the western world--that painting was dead. It turned out, however, that this was far from true. Dennis Reid discusses the work of established artists who produced steadily in this period--including Jack Bush, Jack Chambers, Greg Curnoe, Gershon Iskowitz, John Meredith, Guido Molinari, Jack Shadbolt, and Claude Tousignant--as well as new arrivals on the scene who have since joined the ranks of leading Canadian artists. Among the more recent painters discussed are David Bolduc, John Boyle, David Craven, Paterson Ewen, Ivan Eyre, Yves Gaucher, John Hall, Ron Martin, Michale Morris, Norval Morrisseau, Christopher Pratt, Shirley Wiitasalo, and Tim Zuck. Enriched by this overview, and by many additions to the original text, A Concise History of Canadian Painting in its Second Edition is the widest-ranging and most authoritative handbook available. Lucid, interesting, and informative, it is still a pleasure to read from first to last." -- Back cover
