Book excerpt: Every one of us has some distance to go when it comes to our relationship with Christ. As twenty-first-century women, it often seems that the challenges of our modern lives make it even more difficult to live an authentic friendship with him. Thankfully, we have the lasting examples of women in the New Testament to show us how to draw close to Jesus, no matter what our circumstances might be. At His Feet is written for the woman who desires to rest in the peace of the Lord. This Bible study, specifically designed for women, helps us surrender to God’s will and, in doing so, find the true freedom that only our Savior can offer. Like us, the New Testament women featured in this study knew what it meant to struggle with the burdens of life and with their own sinfulness. But when they encountered Jesus, their lives were changed forever. Like the women of the New Testament, we can bring Jesus our burdens and receive his healing, his love, and his grace. We, too, can experience the life-changing power of drawing close to him and resting in his love. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born and raised in Turkey, Derya Little rejected her family’s Islamic faith and became an atheist after her parents’ divorce. During her stormy adolescence, she tried to convince a Christian missionary that there is no God but was converted to Christianity instead. During her doctoral studies in England, she entered the Catholic Church.

Book Love Worth Finding 25 Pack

Download or read book Love Worth Finding 25 Pack written by Adrian Rogers and published by Crossway Books. This book was released on 2016-01-31 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychologists have long known that every person has two great longings and inward needs. The first is to be loved, and the second is to love. But when pressures and heartaches come into our lives, many give up any hope of ever finding love. The tragedy is that we often look in the wrong places to fill this deep need and longing. Some substitute lust for love. Others pursue material things or superficial relationships--all in the futile attempt to fill a God-shaped vacuum in the human heart. But there is good news! There is a love worth finding and a love worth sharing. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). On the cross of Christ, God's mighty love was revealed and offered unconditionally to all who would be saved. Do you long to know this mighty love? Then I need to ask you the most important question you'll ever be asked: Do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves you, that your sins are forgiven, and that you are saved and on your way to heaven? The great news is, you can know! Let me share with you how to discover the greatest love worth finding. Admit Your Sin. First, you must admit that you are a sinner. The Bible says, "None is righteous, no, not one. . . . For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:10, 23). It is our sin that separates us from God and from fulfilling our deepest needs and longings. Sin is an offense against God that carries a serious penalty. According to Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death [eternal separation from the love and mercy of God]." Abandon Your Efforts. Second, you must abandon any efforts to save yourself. If we could save ourselves, Jesus's death would have been unnecessary! Even "getting religion" cannot get you to heaven. The Bible says it is "not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his mercy" that we are saved (Titus 3:5). Salvation is by God's grace, "not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Acknowledge Christ's Payment. What you cannot do for yourself, Jesus Christ has done for you! "But God shows his love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). He died on the cross for you and then rose from the dead to prove that his payment was acceptable to God. But you must acknowledge and believe this fact. "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). Accept Christ as your Savior. Salvation is God's gift to you. "The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). When someone offers you a priceless gift, the wisest thing you can do is accept it! This very moment, you can receive Christ's gift of salvation by sincerely praying this simple prayer from your heart: Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that you love me and want to save me. Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, who died on the cross to pay for my sins. I believe God raised you from the dead. I now turn from my sin and, by faith, receive you as my personal Lord and Savior. Come into my heart, forgive my sins, and save me, Lord Jesus. In your name I pray. Amen.

Download or read book Drawing Closer to Christ written by Joseph Malham and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You don’t need the talent of a classically trained artist—or even the ability to draw a stick figure—to create a stunning icon. Follow along step-by-step with internationally acclaimed iconographer Joseph Malham as he takes you through an eight-day, self-guided contemplative retreat to create your own icon of the Christ Pantocrator (All-Powerful, the Teacher). In Drawing Closer to Christ, Malham relies on his twenty years of teaching experience to walk you through the materials and techniques needed to create your own sacred image. For fifteen hundred years, icons have helped Christians meditate and pray. Used in homes and public worship, these symbolic images represent the presence of Christ and the saints. Malham has been practicing and teaching iconography for twenty years, encouraging ordinary people to create their own icons and be transformed by the spiritual practice. In Drawing Closer to Christ, he invites people of all levels of artistic talent to the contemplative experience of creating a sacred image. Using the ancient icon Christ Pantocrator as your pattern, you will learn how to enter into the process of tracing the icon into the wood, applying gold leafing to the halo around Christ's head, and blending the paint to create beautiful colors that radiate holiness. Malham provides a list of supplies needed for each stage and step-by-step directions with detailed photographs. The first seven days of the retreat follow the rhythm of the Genesis account of creation. On the eight day, you'll learn that while the finished icon represents the personality of the artist, it is still Christ. You will be transformed by your sacred image.

Book excerpt: Why Draw Near to God?God makes a promise to us in James 4:8. He says if we will draw near toHim, that He will draw near to us. What an amazing promise. God isn'ttalking about physical proximity of course, but a life of personal, intimatefellowship with Him. Yet, this promise is conditional. It requires somethingon our part-we must first draw near to Him. God seeks this relationship, even to the sacrificing of His son. Romans 5:8 says, "but God shows his lovefor us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." So the questionis, do we desire this close relationship, this nearness? This study is designedto help us fulfill our part. Perhaps we should ask, "What are some of theblessings that are received from a close relationship with God?"

Download or read book Women in the New Testament written by Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the history of women, in religion as in other fields, is lost because it was overlooked or considered unimportant. It is therefore surprising that so many fragments of women's stories survive in the New Testament texts composed by men. Why did they include so many references to women and why are women, as a group, treated so positively by the male New Testament writers? Women in the New Testament shows how the stories of women are an integral part of the Gospel and its meaning for us. It also relays how we can respond to the challenge these women represent, whether we are men trying to understand or women trying to find our voices within the tradition of faith found in the New Testament. Chapter one discusses three women of expectant faith. Chapters two and three deal with women who are changed by Jesus. Chapter four focuses on New Testament women of influence. Chapters five and six show how women disciples spread and gave shape to the gospel message. Chapters are "Women of Expectant Faith," “Women Changed by Jesus,” “More Women Changed by Jesus,” “Women of Prominence,” “Women and Discipleship,” and “More Women and Discipleship.” Mary Ann Getty-Sullivan, PhD, teaches at St. Vincent College and St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe, Pennsylvania. She is the author of First and Second Corinthians from the Collegeville Bible Commentary series, author of the God Speaks to Us series of children's books, and editor of the Zacchaeus Studies: New Testament series published by The Liturgical Press. Book excerpt: The intent of this book is to spread the joy of the Lord to those who know Him those who join in fellowship with others so that we can rejoice in peace, grace, rest, love and knowledge of what God has done for us. We look forward to Heaven and seeing our loved ones again. We join in fellowship with others to share the love of God with those in need and seeking the lost. For years I have been rhyming words. My mother encouraged me in my early teens to write poetry. Through the years, I have written and lost many poems. Days were busy with a growing household; my husband, myself, three sons and one daughter. Over the years, the Lord has blessed us with ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren I shared some of my poems with my friends Walter and Charlene Hoard. We decided that he would make tracts out of them by adding Scriptures that fit the poems. I asked God to use me, at the age of seventy-two, to touch the lives of others with comfort and fill them with the great love that God has given me. God wakes me up early in the morning, from midnight to until 5 am, to write for Him. I know its from Him because I am blessed when I read it. My desire is to serve God however He allows me. This is my second book of poetry, Meditations was published in January of 2014, by Westbow Press.
