Topics range from fighting disinformation, how vulnerable communities coped with disadvantages using media, transforming educational TV or YouTube to reach larger audiences, supporting students’ wellbeing through various online strategies, examining early childhood, parents, and media mentoring using digital tools, reflecting on educators’ intersectionality on video platforms, youth-produced media to fight injustice, teaching remotely and providing low-tech solutions to address the digital divide, search for solutions collaboratively using social media, and many more. Offering a unique and broad multicultural perspective on how we can learn from the challenges of addressing varied pedagogical issues that have arisen in the context of the pandemic, this handbook will allow researchers, educators, practitioners, institution leaders, and graduate students to explore how media education evolved during 2020 and 2021, and how these experiences can shape the future direction of media education.

Book Maker Literacy

Download or read book Maker Literacy written by Lynn Pawloski and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes the creativity and inventiveness of the maker movement and applies that energy in a new way to help children learn across all subject areas as well as broaden their world view. Traditional library literacy programs have helped many children foster a love of reading, but to prepare this next generation of learners, this programming needs to be modified to include technology. The inherent creativity and inventiveness of the Maker Movement, embracing both classic and innovative technological activities, provides the perfect bridge to invigorate, expand, and update these programs. This alternative to conventional library literacy programming will help children learn throughout all subject areas, see additional possibilities, and make connections in the world around them. With this guide, readers can discover how to apply maker literacy to introduce connections that help children better understand that their experiences in life are interrelated—that art can be made on a 3D printer and that science and technology are an essential part of design. This holistic approach provides a myriad of creative opportunities for both teaching staff and the children they serve. A great resource for youth services librarians in public libraries, this guide to infusing library programs with technology and maker activities to motivate learning will also appeal to preschool and elementary librarians, educators, and parents.

This book was released on 2024-10-07 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue explores two distinct yet deeply interconnected areas of academic debate – animal studies and queer studies. The concept of queer ecology has gained a growing interest in the academia, highlighting the importance of intersectional understanding of ecological, multi-species and sexual exclusions and entanglements. The authors gathered in this issue engage with the connections between animalities and queerness in a way that casts a new light on these concepts. They do so in a variety of ways in which entanglements between them may occur while providing in-depth, theoretical analyses of what implications arise from bringing them under one umbrella.

Book Multispecies Storytelling in Intermedial Practices

Download or read book Multispecies Storytelling in Intermedial Practices written by Ida Bencke and published by punctum books. This book was released on 2022-03-08 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multispecies Storytelling in Intermedial Practices is a speculative endeavor asking how we may represent, relay, and read worlds differently by seeing other species as protagonists in their own rights. What other stories are to be invented and told from within those many-tongued chatters of multispecies collectives? Could such stories teach us how to become human otherwise? Often, the human is defined as the sole creature who holds language, and consequently is capable of articulating, representing, and reflecting upon the world. And yet, the world is made and remade by ongoing and many-tongued conversations between various organisms reverberating with sound, movement, gestures, hormones, and electrical signals. Everywhere, life is making itself known, heard, and understood in a wide variety of media and modalities. Some of these registers are available to our human senses, while some are not. Facing a not-so-distant future catastrophe, which in many ways and for many of us is already here, it is becoming painstakingly clear that our imaginaries are in dire need of corrections and replacements. How do we cultivate and share other kinds of stories and visions of the world that may hold promises of modest, yet radical hope? If we keep reproducing the same kind of languages, the same kinds of scientific gatekeeping, the same kinds of stories about "our" place in nature, we remain numb in the face of collapse. Multispecies Storytelling in Intermedial Practices offers steps toward a (self)critical multispecies philosophy which interrogates and qualifies the broad and seemingly neutral concept of humanity utilized in and around conversations grounded within Western science and academia. Artists, activists, writers, and scientists give a myriad of different interpretations of how to tell our worlds using different media - and possibly gives hints as to how to change it, too.

Book Museums in Motion

Download or read book Museums in Motion written by Juilee Decker and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the histories and functions of museums while also looking at the current standing of museums and their ongoing efforts toward relevance, resiliency, and future-proofing. Section I examines the beginnings of museums with chapters dedicated to art and design museums; natural history and anthropological museums; science museums; museums focused history and the past; and gardens, zoos, and children’s museums. Emphasis is on museums in the United States, with some historical framing beyond the U.S. Section II explores the primary functions of museums, including conservation, exhibition, interpretation, engagement, and service. Section III examines museums from within by exploring critical issues and contemporary movements facing museums and our society: transparency and openness, labor and equity, belonging and coalition-building, risk-taking and risk aversion, and sustainability and empathy. Advocating for change rather than “death to museums,” Museums in Motion demonstrates the very premise that museums have been in motion all along, as they have shifted from their rather simple form of a treasury, storehouse, and tomb to something much more complex by deeply considering where museums have come from, where they are today, and where they are going. Entirely new to this edition, Section III (Museum Aspirations) features five new chapters, each centered around topics, rather than a museum type or museum function. Each topic is meant to be a micro-narrative and springboard for a conversation about museums today and their sustainability in the future. The chapters examine museums from the inside (museum workers and their voices, especially, as well as power held by people and institutions) and DEIA without using those individual words as chapter headings. On their own, or in conjunction with the chapters in the previous sections of this book, these chapters serve as vignettes that can help readers to understand where, how, and why we need to apply critical lenses to institutions and articulate how doing so helps us to understand this historical moment and, ultimately how we can realize resiliency and sustainability for museums and those who make their existence possible.

Book If Picasso Painted a Snowman The Reimagined Masterpiece Series

Download or read book If Picasso Painted a Snowman The Reimagined Masterpiece Series written by Amy Newbold and published by Tilbury House Publishers and Cadent Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maryland Blue Crab Honor Book 2018 A big, brightly colored, playful introduction to various important painters and art movements. If someone asked you to paint a snowman, you would probably start with three white circles stacked one upon another. Then you would add black dots for eyes, an orange triangle for a nose, and a black dotted smile. But if Picasso painted a snowman… From that simple premise flows this delightful, whimsical, educational picture book that shows how the artist’s imagination can summon magic from a prosaic subject. Greg Newbold’s chameleon-like artistry shows us Roy Lichtenstein’s snow hero saving the day, Georgia O’Keefe’s snowman blooming in the desert, Claude Monet’s snowmen among haystacks, Grant Wood’s American Gothic snowman, Jackson Pollock’s snowman in ten thousand splats, Salvador Dali’s snowmen dripping like melty cheese, and snowmen as they might have been rendered by J. M. W. Turner, Gustav Klimt, Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, Georges Seurat, Pablita Velarde, Piet Mondrian, Sonia Delaunay, Jacob Lawrence, and Vincent van Gogh. Our guide for this tour is a lively hamster who—also chameleon-like—sports a Dali mustache on one spread, a Van Gogh ear bandage on the next. “What would your snowman look like?” the book asks, and then offers a page with a picture frame for a child to fill in. Backmatter thumbnail biographies of the artists complete this highly original tour of the creative imagination that will delight adults as well as children. Fountas & Pinnell Level O
