This book illustrates the diversity of this baroque art form and explains how it has given us opera as we know it.

Book LA PERSECUZIONE DEI GIUSTI PRESENZE UGONOTTE NELLA LETTERATURA DRAMMATICA DELL OTTOCENTO ITALIANO

Download or read book LA PERSECUZIONE DEI GIUSTI PRESENZE UGONOTTE NELLA LETTERATURA DRAMMATICA DELL OTTOCENTO ITALIANO written by Giorgio Pannunzio and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Poetry on Stage

  • Author : Gianluca Rizzo
  • Publisher : University of Toronto Press
  • Release : 2020-08-26
  • ISBN : 1487534639
  • Pages : 473 pages

Download or read book Poetry on Stage written by Gianluca Rizzo and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry on Stage focuses on exchanges between the writers of the Italian neo-avant-garde with the actors, directors, and playwrights of the Nuovo Teatro. The book sheds light on a forgotten chapter of twentieth-century Italian literature, arguing that the theatre was the ideal incubator for stylistic and linguistic experiments and a means through which authors could establish direct contact with their audience and verify solutions to the practical and theoretical problems raised by their stances in politics and poetics. A robust analysis of a number of exemplary texts grounds these issues in the plays and poems produced at the time and connects them with the experimentations subsequently carried out by some of the same artists. In-depth interviews with four of the most influential figures in the field – critic Valentina Valentini, actor and director Pippo Di Marca, author Giuliano Scabia, and the late poet Nanni Balestrini – conclude the volume, providing invaluable first-hand testimony that brings to life the people and controversies discussed.

Book A New Chronology of Venetian Opera and Related Genres 1660 1760

Download or read book A New Chronology of Venetian Opera and Related Genres 1660 1760 written by Eleanor Selfridge-Field and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 1637 to the middle of the eighteenth century, Venice was the world center for operatic activity. No exact chronology of the Venetian stage during this period has previously existed in any language. This reference work, the culmination of two decades of research throughout Europe, provides a secure ordering of 800 operas and 650 related works from the period 1660 to 1760. Derived from thousands of manuscript news-sheets and other unpublished materials, the Chronology provides a wealth of new information on about 1500 works. Each entry in this production-based survey provides not only perfunctory reference information but also a synopsis of the text, eyewitness accounts, and pointers to surviving musical scores. What emerges, in addition to secure dates, is a profusion of new information about events, personalities, patronage, and the response of opera to changing political and social dynamics. Appendixes and supplements provide basic information in Venetian history for music, drama, and theater scholars who are not specialists in Italian studies.

Book The Story of Muhammad Hanafiyyah

Download or read book The Story of Muhammad Hanafiyyah written by L. F. Brakel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book may be considered to be Volume II of the Hikayat Muhammad Hanafiyyah, the text edition which appeared in 1975 as number 12 in the same series. When mention is made of "Volume I", it is the latter which is referred to. The present publication contains first and foremost an abbreviated translation of the Malay text. With regard to the rather repetitious and cliche-ridden character of the latter, it was believed that little was to be gained by a literal word-for-word translation. I hope that little essential has been left out and that the flavour of the original has percolated through to the English rendering ! For this purpose I have especially endeavoured to render many dia logues as 'verbatim' as feasible. The translation has been accompanied by notes whose main purpose it is to enable a running comparison with the Persian original. Copious quotations of the Malay and Persian texts should enable the expert reader to reach his own conclusions. Another feature of this second volume is the commentaries that follow some of the chapters trans lated. Their purpose is to determine the position of the account of the H. M. H.

Book Shakespeare Manipulated

Download or read book Shakespeare Manipulated written by Susan Young and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resulting production was, technically and artistically, a tour de force, and the critical response was very favorable. The complexity of the stage effects and the marionette was such that the production, once dismantled, is unlikely to be re-staged. There existed no detailed written record of the production, so the writer's account has made good this lack by means of interviews with members of the company and a search of their archives and press reviews.
