Book A Field Guide to Site Identification and Interpretation for the Southeast Portion of the Prince George Forest Region

Download or read book A Field Guide to Site Identification and Interpretation for the Southeast Portion of the Prince George Forest Region written by C. DeLong and published by British Columbia, Forest Science Program. This book was released on 2003 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide has two main goals: to assist users in classifying sample forest ecosystem sites in the field in the south-east Prince George Forest Region; and to provide interpretations for these site units that will assist in preparing management prescriptions. Following the introduction is a brief discussion of the biogeoclimatic classification system. Chapter 3 contains procedures for site description, identification, mapping, & interpretation. Chapters 4 to 11 present information about the biogeoclimatic units in the Region, tools for identification of biogeoclimatic & site units, descriptions of the site units, and direct management interpretations for the identified site units. Chapter 12 provides indirect interpretations for silvicultural systems and site preparation options, as well as some basic information on ecosystem management.

Book Plant Indicator Guide for Northern British Columbia

Download or read book Plant Indicator Guide for Northern British Columbia written by Leisbet J. Beaudry and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guidebook shows how the distribution of common forest plants changes due to variations in climate, terrain, site, & soil conditions across the northern British Columbia wet-belt & subalpine zones. The guide covers over 120 plant species or species groups that occur in the northern montane spruce and the northern interior cedar-hemlock biogeoclimatic zones. For each species, an outline of species ecological information is presented along with a graph showing the predominant moisture & nutrient regimes where it will most likely occur. The information is arranged by category of plant: trees; shrubs; herbs, ferns, & dwarf shrubs; grasses & sedges; and mosses, liverworts, & lichens. The appendix includes identification keys to the common shrubs & herbs of the Prince George Forest Region and an index of common & scientific names.

Book Field Studies of Seed Biology

Download or read book Field Studies of Seed Biology written by Carole Louise Scheuplein Leadem and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this manual is to detail tree seed research methods that have been gleaned from the literature and from the personal experience of the authors. Following a discussion of planning and organizing a field study, the manual is arranged by subject areas most often associated with field studies of tree seeds: natural seed production, seed dispersal, seed predation, seed banks, assessing seed quality and viability, and effects of silvicultural practices on emergence. Where applicable, information is provided throughout on such matters as experiment design, prediction and measurement methods, data analysis, sampling, equipment used, and field and laboratory testing.

Book Effects of Intensive Fertilization on the Foliar Nutrition and Growth of Young Lodgepole Pine and Spruce Forests in the Interior of British Columbia E P 886 13

Download or read book Effects of Intensive Fertilization on the Foliar Nutrition and Growth of Young Lodgepole Pine and Spruce Forests in the Interior of British Columbia E P 886 13 written by Robert Peter Brockley and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The preliminary effects of different regimes and frequencies of repeated fertilization on foliar nutrition and growth of eight young lodgepole pine and interior spruce forests in north-central British Columbia are reported. At least 6 years of growth measurements have been obtained from seven of the eight "maximum productivity" installations. These results indicate that the repeated fertilization of young managed forests may be a potentially viable strategy for addressing timber supply challenges in the interior of British Columbia. Young spruce plantations are apparently particularly well suited to intensive forest management. Although four of the five lodgepole pine installations have produced significant growth gains following periodic (every 6 years) and yearly fertilization, the responses to date have been more variable and consistently smaller than those obtained at the spruce study sites."

Book Fish stream Identification Guidebook

Download or read book Fish stream Identification Guidebook written by British Columbia. Ministry of Forests and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The British Columbia Forest Practices Code specifies planning and operational guidelines for each phase of timber harvesting operations around streams, lakes, and wetlands. This guide describes suitable practices to meet the objectives of the riparian management regulations within the Code, specifically the requirement to correctly identify streams on the basis of fish presence in order to ensure the protection of fish populations and habitats during all phases of forest harvesting. The guide defines the classes of streams distinguished for aquatic ecosystem and riparian zone management, identifies fish species that define a stream as fish-bearing under the Code, and describes factors influencing fish-stream identification such as stream reach, gradient, stream size, natural barriers, and fisheries sensitive zones. The guide concludes with methods for identifying fish streams, including measurement, sampling, data recording, and mapping procedures.
