Book Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques

Download or read book Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques written by David F. Chang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-06-01 with total page 1146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abnormal or deficient capsular anatomy creates numerous surgical challenges and predisposes eyes to IOL complications. Literally dozens of different approaches have been devised to implant IOLs in the face of compromised capsular support. However, a comprehensive compendium of the most important surgical strategies has not existed, until now. Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques:Strategies for Compromised or Missing Capsular Support provides this much-needed resource with more than 70 different chapters that cover the wide array of surgical approaches. Among the contributors are many of the original innovators of the most important technologies and methodologies. In addition to teaching a specific surgical technique, these authors cover its history, rationale, and clinical results. Editor Dr. David F. Chang is well known and acclaimed for 2 best-selling cataract textbooks—Mastering Refractive IOLs and Phaco Chop and Advanced Phaco Techniques. Along with associate editors Drs. Bryan S. Lee and Amar Agarwal, Dr. Chang has now tackled this new major subject area—how to best fixate IOLs when capsular support is compromised or absent. Part One covers capsular fixation with either zonulopathy or following posterior capsule rupture. Topics include using conventional and modified capsular tension rings, capsular tension segments or capsular anchors, standard and reverse optic capture with anterior capsulorrhexis, sulcus fixation, posterior capsulorrhexis, and capsular membrane suture fixation. Part Two covers noncapsular fixation. Topics include anterior chamber IOLs, iris claw IOLs, iris and transscleral suture fixation of posterior chamber IOLs, and intrascleral haptic fixation using the Yamane double-needle or glued IOL methods. Part Three covers miscellaneous topics such as anterior vitrectomy, IOL power calculation for noncapsular IOLs, and sliding slip knots and suture pupilloplasty. To facilitate skills transfer, most chapters present detailed, step-by-step descriptions of the different techniques. The maneuvers are illustrated by over 1,100 diagrams and high-resolution surgical images. Finally, nearly every chapter is accompanied by narrated instructional videos. Combining over 150 videos, schematic diagrams, surgical images, and detailed written descriptions, Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques provides the most effective way to learn advanced surgical techniques. With its comprehensive and practical approach to covering the gamut of strategies and devices, Advanced IOL Fixation Techniques:Strategies for Compromised or Missing Capsular Support will be an indispensable resource for cataract surgeons at all levels of experience.

Book My Odyssey with Donna

Download or read book My Odyssey with Donna written by Jose Peczon and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-09-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first six chapters of this book are autobiographical. The first chapter describes a tragedy that occurred to the family of the author when he was fifteen years old. In the subsequent chapters, he describes his roots, early childhood, experiences during the World War II, and how he started a career in medicine at a very young age. In the seventh chapter, he poignantly describes how he met his future partner for life. For the rest of the book, he describes the journey they took together, starting with their training at the Philippine General Hospital in Manila where they met, their five-year participation in the US State Department Exchange Visitor Program for further training, and their return to their homeland with an intent to serve the country of their birth. Finding themselves to seem like foreigners in their home country, they decided to return to America, where they were able to achieve a level of success in life that they never thought possible, even in their wildest dreams. The author, encouraged and supported by his loving wife, went on to become a leading advocate of intraocular lens implantation during cataract operations in Massachusetts, despite vigorous opposition from leading Boston ophthalmologists. His reputation as a young ophthalmologist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston led to his recruitment to practice his specialty in a small rural city, Greenfield, Massachusetts, where he was given a much-coveted deferment from serving in Vietnam. While achieving prominence in ophthalmological circles in Massachusetts, he never forgot his home country. He periodically visited his old alma mater to share his knowledge and experience with his younger colleagues.

Book The Filipino Americans

Download or read book The Filipino Americans written by Barbara M. Posadas and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1999-11-30 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year 2000, Filipino Americans will be the largest Asian American group. This volume is the first detailed historical study of the major post-1965 immigration of Filipinos to the United States. It provides comprehensive coverage of the recent Filipino American experience, from the pivotal Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, under which most Filipinos entered this country, to their values and customs, economic and political status, organizational affiliations, and contemporary issues and problems. Students and interested readers will be rewarded with a rich portrayal of individual immigrants and their stories. Filipino Americans emigrated from a nation that has a special relationship with the United States, dating from 1898 to 1946, when the Philippines was a U.S. colony. After a brief account of Philippine history, The Filipino Americans introduces a diverse immigrant population, with accounts of students, sailors, war brides, and nurses who arrived before 1965. Legislation in 1965 encouraged immigration of professionals, predominantly physicians and nurses, and permitted them to bring relatives. Posadas shows how these new Americans attempted to retain Philippine values and customs amid American economic, political, and cultural life. Family issues discussed include education and the model minority, gangs, divorce, and aging in a different culture. In addition, future immigration is an important topic, as many kin are left behind. The final chapter on Filipino American identity has particular relevance with today's multicultural debates. Tables, photos, a glossary, and biographical profiles complement this outstanding look at these new Americans.
