Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many clergy are in startlingly bad health. Not only do they regularly report depression, stress, and serious family and financial problems, they also exhibit higher than normal incidences of obesity, high cholesterol levels, inactivity, high blood pressure, and heart disease. How effective can professionals in ministry be with such debilities and vulnerabilities? Are clergy too busy helping others to take care of themselves? Gwen Halaas's caring and savvy book addresses clergy health directly: clergy have a spiritual as well as physical need to care for themselves, to live to the fullest, to ensure that they enjoy the life and gifts God gave them. Building her brief, practical book around the wellness wheel, Halaas emphasizes not just healthy eating but a whole array of life-affirming choices for clergy. Halaas provides the tools for clergy to choose growth and well-being over burnout and decline. With this practical and upbeat volume, clergy can begin to put their own lives in perspective and ''keep [themselves] in training for a godly life'' (1 Timothy 4:7).

Book The Spirit Is Crown of the Heart

Download or read book The Spirit Is Crown of the Heart written by Pastor Stephen Kyeyune and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-06-04 with total page 866 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In case you asked me the most important topic in this book I would answer that the topic about praying. This book positions you to present your prayers directly to God with confidence that your prayers are received by God rather than sending your prayer request to a clergyman. Everything inside this book will equally benefit the reader. You do not want to miss my teaching on how to be baptized, filled and led by the Holy Spirit; also how to overcome temptation and biblical illiteracy. Gods assignment to the Church: the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit. In the last chapter of my book, I give my emotional testimony regarding the terrors of the murderous regime of Idi Amin and how God saved me and how He taught me practically to forgive. Learn the necessity of forgiveness. I decided to dedicate this book to my beloved dad, the late Israel Kyeyune, my beloved mother Milly Muganzi, and the Church (body of Christ). The cry of my heart is for the unified body of Christ. Christ is coming for the Church without color and wrinkle. I believe that the wrinkle of division must be ironed out of our fabric before we think about meeting our Bridegroom. The answer is found within the spiritual mutuality of all believers. Special thanks go to my family in particular my wife and my love Elizabeth Kyeyune. I want to thank also those people who have been of such great encouragement to me in different ways in particular the Multicultural Family Fellowship in South Bend where I am the pastor. God bless.

Book Silent No More

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 175 pages

Download or read book Silent No More written by John Potter and published by Paraclete Life Publications. This book was released on 2022-08-08 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suicide is a leading cause of death. More people die from suicide than in all of the combined wars, conflicts, and natural disasters across the globe. Suicide is also an issue that few seem willing to discuss. Suicide remains a hidden or taboo topic. Stigma, culture, and theological misunderstanding are contributing factors to this reality. Silent No More: A Christian Response to Suicide examines how scripture, spiritual practices, and congregations can address suicide. Religion / spirituality is frequently listed as a strong protective factor against suicide. Years of research, studies, and literature show that religion / spirituality is even stronger when beliefs, religious activity, and community are engaged to support people at risk of suicide. Religion / spirituality must be fully integrated into suicide prevention plans and efforts if a total wellness approach of spirit, mind, and body are to be utilized. The book also addresses that Christian congregations must have love-soaked people who are ready to provide community and fellowship to hurting people inside and outside of the church doors. The author concludes the book with seven steps that will enable congregations and churches leaders to help those who are at risk of suicide. These strategies can make simple strides to address suicide and help hurting people in any community. It is time for Christian communities to rejoin the battle against suicide. Christianity has a rich legacy of caring for people in crisis, historically having started hospitals, mental health centers, and compassionate care ministries. There is a way for Christianity to regain its voice and care for people at risk of suicide. It is time for Christians to be silent no more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Would you volunteer for open heart surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatments? Would you consider becoming severely depressed? Well don't worry, you won't have to volunteer. Unfortunately, heart disease and cancer are the leading causes of death in the United States. If you live a normal life span, the chances are better than even money that you will experience one of the above conditions. And should you ever need to be in a hospital, will you be adequately insured or will it be a trip to the poor house for you and your family? Even those who don't need to be hospitalized spend millions of dollars daily on prescription drugs, and yes, antidepressants are still listed among the top selling prescription drugs in the country. If there is a loving God, then why do so many people find themselves in these kinds of situations? Would you prefer not to be in such a situation? If your doctor informed you that by reading just five or ten minutes a day for the next 30 days you could significantly lower your risk of experiencing these types of conditions, would you follow his or her advice? What if your doctor told you that your recovery was far more likely, would you listen then? Dispensing Truth addresses these issues from a biblical basis but with the unique perspective of one who is not only an ordained minister but a community pharmacist as well. The results reveal some amazing answers. Answers that provide truth, hope, and encouragement to the troubled, to the sick, and to the dying. Discover for yourself a file of divine prescriptions that can restore and maintain good health.

Download or read book The Golden Legend written by Jacobus de Voragine and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-22 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depicting the lives of the saints in an array of factual and fictional stories, The Golden Legend was perhaps the most widely read book, after the Bible, during the late Middle Ages. It was compiled around 1260 by Jacobus de Voragine, a scholarly friar and later archbishop of Genoa, whose purpose was to captivate, encourage, and edify the faithful, while preserving a vast store of information pertaining to the legends and traditions of the church. In this translation, the first in English of the complete text, William Granger Ryan captures the immediacy of this rich work, which offers an important guide for readers interested in medieval art and literature and, more generally, in popular religious culture. Arranged according to the order of saints' feast days, these fascinating stories are now combined into one volume. This edition also features an introduction by Eamon Duffy contextualizing the work.

Book Water From the Rock

Download or read book Water From the Rock written by Greg Hinnant and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2024-05-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirsty? Parched for fresh, flowing biblical insights that will revive your trial-weary heart and slake your thirst for more of Jesus? Water From the Rock, the final book in Greg Hinnant’s devotional trilogy, offers you spiritual water aplenty. Its 122 biblical devotional studies are intentionally crafted to provide more material than that offered by most devotionals in hopes of providing more inspiration and prompting further study. Ministers will find numerous sermons and teachings here and disciples much study material. These expository messages address many timely biblical subjects yet, like the Bible, their central theme is Christ—knowing Him, pleasing Him, and learning to walk closely with Him in the hot, spiritually dry wilderness of this increasingly secular, Christ-rejecting world. For that, we will need to rehydrate our souls regularly with lots of spiritual water. So, take long, thoughtful, prayerful drinks of this devotional’s Spirit-illuminated, biblical water, again and again. With the Holy Spirit’s blessing, it will help sustain and guide you through your wilderness trials to the Promised Land of Christian maturity! Book Review: As always, this book is blessing my socks off, to use an old expression. I am thoroughly enjoying working on it." -- Deborah Moss, Associate Editor, Charisma Media
