Book Doubly Strange Hypernuclei

Download or read book Doubly Strange Hypernuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doubly strange hypernuclei are fundamental for understanding proposed new particles and states of matter containing two or more units of strangeness. Experiments are required to confirm the existence of [Lambda][Lambda] hypernuclei, measure their lifetimes, binding energies, and decay modes, and search for possible anomalies. An experiment to observe and study them is planned utilizing the higher intensity beams now available at the AGS. Detailed study will require further improvements in intensity and facilities. Facility requirements for future experiments are discussed.

Book Decay of Doubly Strange Hypernuclei

Download or read book Decay of Doubly Strange Hypernuclei written by Jordi Maneu Victoria and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Double § hypernuclei are bound systems of several nucleons and two § hyperons. These systems are unstable with respect to the weak interaction and chiefly decay through two-body processes that conserve neither parity, isospin or strangeness. Among such processes we can find those mediated by the§N ! NN, §§ ! §n and §§ ! ßN reactions but also, thanks to the baryon channel mixing (§N ° ßN, §§ ° •N,§§ ° ßß) made possible by the strong interaction, the weak ßN ! NN, •N ! §n, •N ! ßN, ßß ! §n and ßß ! ßN channels. This work completes the study of the decay of double-§ hypernuclei by taking into account the microscopic effects of the strong interaction on two baryon states in strangeness sectors -2, -1 and 0, pertaining to the possible baryon-baryon states appearing in the initial and final states, as previously stated. The initial strangeness °2 wave function is obtained from the solution of a G-matrix equation with the input of realistic strong baryon-baryon potentials, while the final hyperon-nucleon wave functions are derived analogously from a microscopic T-matrix calculation. Consequently the opening of the channel induced by the •N pair (with a lower energy threshold than that corresponding to the ßß pair) had to be considered. In order to evaluate these new decay channels the potential that governs the •N interaction with a strangeness variation" -- TDX.

Book Double Hypernuclei Or H Particles

Download or read book Double Hypernuclei Or H Particles written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We will begin with the H particle, stranglets and strange matter since these proposed objects are a strong motivation for studying hypernuclei containing two strange quarks. The data on [Lambda][Lambda] and [Xi] hypernuclei will then be reviewed, as well as experiments in progress or scheduled. Many have contributed to the work that will be discussed, which took place primarily at KEK and BNL. At this time of transition, and anticipation of new experimental results and facilities, we take time to remember Carl Dover and Hiro Bando who contributed so much to this field.

Book Strangeness Exchange Reactions and Hypernuclei

Download or read book Strangeness Exchange Reactions and Hypernuclei written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent progress in the spectroscopy of .lambda. and .sigma. hypernuclei is reviewed. Prospects for the production of doubly strange hypernuclei at a future kaon factory are assessed. It is suggested that the (K−, K) reaction on a nuclear target may afford an optimal way of producing the H dibaryon, a stable six quark object with J/sup .pi./ = O, S = -2.

Book Handbook of Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Handbook of Nuclear Physics written by Isao Tanihata and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 4180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is a comprehensive, systematic source of modern nuclear physics. It aims to summarize experimental and theoretical discoveries and an understanding of unstable nuclei and their exotic structures, which were opened up by the development of radioactive ion (RI) beam in the late 1980s. The handbook comprises three major parts. In the first part, the experiments and measured facts are well organized and reviewed. The second part summarizes recognized theories to explain the experimental facts introduced in the first part. Reflecting recent synergistic progress involving both experiment and theory, the chapters both parts are mutually related. The last part focuses on cosmo-nuclear physics—one of the mainstream subjects in modern nuclear physics. Those comprehensive topics are presented concisely. Supported by introductory reviews, all chapters are designed to present their topics in a manner accessible to readers at the graduate level. The book therefore serves as a valuable source for beginners as well, helping them to learn modern nuclear physics.

Book Strangeness Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Strangeness Nuclear Physics written by Il-Tong Cheon and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unique role of strangeness in nuclear physics has recently attracted much attention, from both the theoretical and experimental viewpoints. This is due not only to the broad spectrum of possible hadron many-body systems with strangeness, but also to the fact that strangeness gives us an opportunity to study fundamental baryon-baryon interactions in a new perspective. Our knowledge of this subject has widened as the scope of hypernuclear experiments has expanded from strangeness exchange and the associated production reactions to hypernuclear weak decays, ? decays, cascade hypernuclei, double-? events, electroproduction of strangeness, etc. This trend will be accelerated by the full operation of new laboratories such as TJLab, COSY, DAèNE, JHF, MAMI, and others. Various aspects of those important and exciting topics are discussed in this book in order to get a perspective of this fast developing area of nuclear physics.

Book Production of Strange Clusters in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book Production of Strange Clusters in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We address a number of issues related to the production of strangeness in high energy heavy ion collisions, including the possibility that stable states of multi-strange hyperonic or quark matter might exist, and the prospects that such objects may be created and detected in the laboratory. We make use of events generated by the cascade code ARC to estimate the rapidity distribution dN/dy of strange clusters produced in Si+Au and Au+Au collisions at AGS energies. These calculations are performed in a simple coalescence model, which yields a consistent description of the strange cluster (d, [sup 3]HE, [sup 3]H, [sup 4]He) production at these energies. If a doubly strange, weakly bound [Lambda][Lambda] dibaryon exists, we find that it is produced rather copiously in Au+Au collisions, with dN/dy [approximately]0.1 at raid-rapidity. If one adds another non-strange or strange baryon to a cluster, the production rate decreases by roughly one or two orders of magnitude, respectively. For instance, we predict that the hypernucleus [sub [Lambda][Lambda]][sup 6]He should have dN/dy [approximately]5 [times] 10[sup [minus]6] for Au+Au central collisions. It should be possible to measure the successive [Lambda] [yields] p[pi][minus] weak decays of this object. We comment on the possibility that conventional multi-strange hypernuclei may serve as doorway states'' for the production of stable configurations of strange quark matter, if such states exist.
