Book excerpt: Le but du présent travail a été d'étudier, chez 6 volontaires, la cinétique des ions fluor dans la salive après l'utilisation de 3 dentifrices (fluofilm [patent mark], Elmex [patent mark], M-Budget [patent mark]) et d'un comprimé (Fluortop [patent mark]). Les concentrations en fluorures ont été déterminées à l'aide d'une électrode spécifique dans des échantillons de salive prélevés après l'application des produits. Les résultats ont montré, dans un premier temps, entre 30 et 60 min., une clairance rapide des fluorures dans la salive suivie d'une élimination plus lente. En général, 2 à 3 h. après l'application des dentifrices, les concentrations en fluorures étaient revenues aux valeurs de base. Avec le comprimé, le temps de clairance était nettement plus élevé allant jusqu'à 6 h. Ces résultats sont intéressants lorsque l'on sait que le mécanisme d'action du fluor dans la prévention de la carie dentaire est essentiellement dû à son effet topique au niveau de la surface de l'émail.
