Book The Alte Donau Successful Restoration and Sustainable Management

Download or read book The Alte Donau Successful Restoration and Sustainable Management written by Martin T. Dokulil and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-09 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here we report on a 25-year long-term sequence of measures to return a deteriorated recreational urban lake, Alte Donau in Vienna to acceptable water quality. Metropolitan waters require focused ecosystem management plans and intensive in-lake efforts. We explored physico-chemical conditions, food web from viruses to fish and water birds, the sediments, the littoral zone and the catchment, management and urban planning, and global warming. Several restoration techniques were tested and critically evaluated. The final management plan was based on bi-stable theory. During the recovery phase, numerous surplus adjustments had to be implemented to secure sustainable achievement.

Book Developing a Wine Event for Sandgrube 13 in Krems an der Donau

Download or read book Developing a Wine Event for Sandgrube 13 in Krems an der Donau written by Maria Priller and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: 2, University of applied sciences (Tourism & Leisure Management), language: English, abstract: This text focuses on the different aspects of a service design project of Winzer Krems, Sandgrube 13, which consists of qualitative as well as quantitative research. We wanted to focus on a regional authentic service project that is also related to the wine culture in Krems and the Wachau valley. In addition, we were looking for a service project that is also interesting for the huge amount of younger people and students studying (and living) in Krems. Trying to find the perfect match of those two factors, the winery "Winzer Krems eG, Sandgrube 13 in 3500 Krems" came to mind. Additionally, the fact that there is not much offered in Krems regarding the student nightlife lead us to the idea to combine the Sandgrube 13 with a students' event. That way the idea of creating a wine event for younger people/students was born! In order to evaluate and research everything in detail, we used different methods where qualitative and quantitative research and ideation specifically were applied. Sequentially various tools we utilized to implement those methods such as a questionnaire, an in-depth interview, the stakeholder map, personas, a question wall as well as the idea clustering. During the overall creation process of the service design project, continually many small iterations have been done. Altogether the methods and tools mentioned above helped us design a very hands-on and customer-oriented event.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forging Germans explores the German nationalization and eventual National Socialist radicalization of ethnic Germans in the Batschka and the Western Banat, two multiethnic, post-Habsburg borderland territories currently in northern Serbia. Deploying a comparative approach, Caroline Mezger investigates the experiences of ethnic German children and youth in interwar Yugoslavia and under Hungarian and German occupation during World War II, as local and Third Reich cultural, religious, political, and military organizations wrestled over young people's national (self-) identification and loyalty. Ethnic German children and youth targeted by these nationalization endeavors moved beyond being the objects of nationalist activism to become agents of nationalization themselves, as they actively negotiated, redefined, proselytized, lived, and died for the "Germanness" ascribed to them. Interweaving original oral history interviews, untapped archival materials from Germany, Hungary, and Serbia, and diverse historical press sources, Forging Germans provides incisive insight into the experiences and memories of one of Europe's most contested wartime demographics, probing the relationship between larger historical circumstances and individual agency and subjectivity.

Book Everyday Silence and the Holocaust

Download or read book Everyday Silence and the Holocaust written by Irene Levin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-31 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday Silence and the Holocaust examines Irene Levin’s experiences of her family’s unspoken history of the Holocaust and the silence that surrounded their war experiences as non-topics. A central example of what C. Wright Mills considered the core of sociology – the intersection of biography and history – the book covers the process by which the author came to understand that notes found in her mother’s apartment following her death were not unimportant scribbles, but in fact contained elements of her mother’s biographical narrative, recording her parents’ escape from occupied Norway to unoccupied Sweden in late 1942. From the mid-1990s, when society began to open up about the atrocities committed against the Jews, so too did the author find that her mother and the wider Jewish population ceased to be silent about their war experiences and began to talk. Charting the process by which the author traced the family’s broader history, this book explores the use of silence, whether in the family or in society more widely, as a powerful analytic tool and examines how these silences can intertwine. This book provides insight into social processes often viewed through a macro-historical lens by way of analysis of the life of an "ordinary" Jewish woman as a survivor. An engaging, grounded study of the biographical method in sociology and the role played by silence, this book will appeal to readers with an interest in the Holocaust and World War II, as well as in social scientific research methods. It will be of use to both undergraduate and postgraduate scholars in the fields of history, social science, psychology, philosophy, and the history of ideas.
