Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I finished writing my fist book, which was my autobiography, With God As My Partner, and had submitted it to the publishers for printing, I thought I was done for a while. About two months after that, I was almost asleep one night when the thought came to me: Don't Stay at Calvary. I was instantly awake and lay there for about a half hour trying to figure out what it meant. Getting nowhere, I committed it to the Lord and went to sleep. A couple days later, as I was praying, the verse in Matthew 16:24 came to mind where Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." It connected with the thought I had about Don't Stay at Calvary. This book is the result of those thoughts and the meditation that I spent on them. I had no thought of writing another book so soon, but I felt impressed to try to address the question I had been asked so often. "Why is the church of today so different from the church of the first century?" I certainly have no "corner on the market" of knowledge or wisdom, especially when it concerns such a profound and involved question as that one. I do, however, have over fifty years in the ministry of the Gospel, having answered the call to preach on the last Sunday of April 1969 and felt it may be beneficial to share what I believe God has laid on my heart about that subject. It is by no means the "final word," but I hope it will be a clear challenge for the church to follow Jesus in service rather than "stay at Calvary" in complacency.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘We did not know; nobody has ever told us that!’ These were the words, spoken in tears, of Pope Pius XII on first reading passages from A Doctor at Calvary, Dr. Pierre Barbet’s scientific and reverent study of the Crucifixion of Christ. From an examination of the Holy Shroud of Turin—the authenticity of which Dr. Barbet accepts from medical evidence—a remarkable reconstruction of Christ’s terrible agony is presented in language that cannot fail to move the heart. What kind and what degree of physical torture did Our Lord suffer on Calvary? What was the medical cause of His death? These are among the questions answered in A Doctor at Calvary, one of the most significant contributions to Christological science in modern times. Christ’s preliminary sufferings—the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, the scourging, the carrying of the cross—the wounds of the hands, in the feet, in the heart, the causes of the rapid death, and the entombment are recounted with the devotion and compassion of an ardent Christian and with a brilliant doctor’s accuracy of anatomical detail. ‘Without doubt this is one of the most gripping and moving books to have been published in many a year.’—Harold C. Gardiner, S. J. ‘As an aid to vivid viewing of the Passion, this book is peerless.’—Rev. John S. Kennedy, Balancing the Books ‘...a profoundly moving study of the Passion.’—Commonwealth ‘...a remarkable reconstruction of Christ’s agony and death.’—Jubilee ‘This volume is an outstanding example of how science can contribute not only to theology, but to solid Christian piety, and thus be an aid to love of Christ.’—The Voice ‘This is a gripping and powerful book of the highest stature.’—Voice of St. Jude ‘Sincere study of this book will enable us for the first time to understand what is behind the words: ‘Jesus suffered and died for us.”—America

Book How to Live Through A Bad Day

Download or read book How to Live Through A Bad Day written by Jack Hayford and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2001-09-02 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each of us has experienced bad days, and these bad days are often compounded by our focus on the "badness" of the situation. But Dr. Jack Hayford contends that," in such times the Lord calls us to hear His voice." And so, beginning with seven phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, he constructs the model for godly behavior while enduring hardship. Insights include: Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. To forgive those seeking to injure you is to remove yourself from their control. My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me? We can ask God the hard questions. Into Your hands I commit My spirit. Surrender your suffering to God and let go. How to Live Through a Bad Day is ideal for anyone who has experienced stress, pain, weariness, or an assault of character. Jack Hayford speaks the words of Jesus -- the words of life that sustain and encourage us to live through our worst days.

Book excerpt: A church in deep debt with attendance down by the thousands. A college that had lapsed into a coma, its buildings in shambles, its faculty demoralized, its enrollment at rock bottom. A university facing lawsuits, scandal, and near-bankruptcy. Each situation involved different financial needs, different lost dreams, different personal wounds. But they each had one thing in common: each needed a leader who could restore hope, vision, and viability. Dr. Mark Rutland has led three institutional turnarounds over the past twenty-five years. He has seen organizations that were dying come to new life. And he knows the steps you need to take right now. How do you know what to do to help your church or organization make it, even when circumstances and personnel challenges seem too much to handle? Here are the answers. As Dr. Rutland writes in this New York Times bestseller, the true leader can say, “This book is for the rugged visionaries who see in the wreckage a hope for the future and are willing to pay the price for a relaunch.”
