Download or read book Medical Kidnap Files 4 6 written by P.D. Workman and published by pd workman. This book was released on 2023-09-05 with total page 886 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awareness is increasing about medical kidnap, the practice of children being apprehended from their parents due to medical conditions. It is happening far more often than you would like to think. This fiction series is about the children who fall victim to this practice, their families, and a small group of teens who are fighting back! Follow Gabriel and Renata as they fight against an unfair and corrupt system, trying to save themselves and others from doctors, social workers, and judges who are more interested in profit than justice and the safety of their charges. The plot was FANTASTIC. I’ve read a lot of stories about foster children, but never anything quite like what happens in Mito. I never even realized that medical kidnap could very well be a thing happening “behind the scenes” in foster care, but after reading this book my mind is blown. I just. Wow. I don’t want to go into a whole lot of detail so I think I might stop this review here, but, gah. I can’t even form words I’m so freaking mind blown. This book was amazing!! Britt, Goodreads Reader Highly recommended! I’m decades past being a “young adult” and find the books in this series to be riveting. They are expertly crafted, with well developed characters and intriguing plots. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. Kim, Goodreads Reader

Download or read book Song of Being written by Mischa Hammarnejd and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-08-21 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What am I, where do I come from, and where am I going? And what is really the point of it all? What is really true behind all the make-believe, conditioning, and the more than eight billion different opinions about what is true? It there a true reality that is the same for all of us on this planet Tellus, yes, in the whole universe? Surely, these are familiar questions. But how often have we not heard about spiritual experiences, awakening, overcoming the fear of death, lasting happiness and joy, heavenly peace and the like? And how often have we not started to read or listen to someone who claims to know it all about these things, and then just given up when we heard a lot of complex and inaccessible thought constructs, new age nonsense mixed with mystical directions and exercises, or sectarian drivel that excludes the ones outside? I have been through all this, and I even ended up in a sect-like context once, but I continued to search for something really true, stripped down, genuinely useful and practical in both festive, ordinary, and difficult times, something that could truly point to lasting and reliable truth about reality, myself, and all of us, to what we are and consist of, and that it would hold true in all cultures, ages, circumstances and states - which all constantly change. Am I asking for too much? My journey is not unique, and neither is who, or what I am. The journey can be made by anyone. It is so familiar, close, accessible, and right in front of all our noses - no, much closer, much more intimate than that. Surely, there are obstacles, but are we really interested in the obstacles? I am not. The book is about my journey to what I thought and was told would be impossible to find or attain. My searching has ended. Not because I found something that I was looking for, but because... and here, it became quiet for a long while. Until this book was made.

Download or read book Goodbye to All That Revised Edition written by Sari Botton and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Roxane Gay to Leslie Jamison, thirty brilliant writers share their timeless stories about the everlasting magic—and occasional misery—of living in the Big Apple, in a new edition of the classic anthology. In the revised edition of this classic collection, thirty writers share their own stories of loving and leaving New York, capturing the mesmerizing allure the city has always had for writers, poets, and wandering spirits. Their essays often begin as love stories do, with the passion of something newly discovered: the crush of subway crowds, the streets filled with manic energy, and the sudden, unblinking certainty that this is the only place on Earth where one can become exactly who she is meant to be. They also share the grief that comes like a gut-punch, when the grand metropolis loses its magic and the pressures of New York's frenetic life wear thin for even the most dedicated dwellers. As friends move away, rents soar, and love—still—remains just out of reach, each writer's goodbye is singular and universal, just like New York itself.
Download or read book What Is All This written by Stephen Dixon and published by Fantagraphics Books. This book was released on 2012-06-11 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A massive tome from one of America's greatest living writers. Stephen Dixon’s work has earned him a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Academy Institute of Arts and Letters Prize for Fiction, the O. Henry Award, and the Pushcart Prize. Fantagraphics Books is proud to re-present his 2010 hardcover collection of short stories, What Is All This?, in paperback form. Dixon’s finely chiseled sentences cut to the quick of people’s lives. None of these stories have been collected in any book before; they have appeared in a wide variety of literary journals over almost 40 years and Dixon has entirely rewritten all of them. Dixon admirers will be cheered to learn that these stories comprise a wholly original work. Centrally concerning himself with the American condition, Dixon explores obsessions of body image, the increasingly polarized political landscape, sex ― in all its incarnations ― and the gloriously pointless minutiae of modern life, from bus rides to tying shoelaces. Using the canvas of his native New York he astutely captures the edgy madness that infects the city through the neuroses of his narrators with a style that owes as much to Neo-Realist cinema as it does to modern literature.

He doesn't know who he is, or how he got here. He goes by the only name he can think of: Lanark. Lanark is a portrait of the outsider artist as a young man, an exploded life story like no other. This theatrical re-imagining of Alasdair Gray's classic novel takes us from the Dragon Chambers to the Cathedral of Unthank, from the post-war Glasgow School of Art to the sinister underground Institute, from the heavenly city of Provan to the hellish Elite Café, combining science-fiction, realism, fantasy, and playful storytelling. 'Insanely ambitious... a heady, unsettling, unpredictable dream... this is a darkly playful and intriguingly dislocated evening in which chronological time, theatre's fourth wall, character conventions and all expectations get smashed.' Guardian Lanark: A Life in Three Acts was conceived in collaboration by David Greig and Graham Eatough and adapted for the stage in collaboration with the creative team. It was presented as a co-production between the Citizens Theatre and the Edinburgh International Festival at the Edinburgh International Festival 2015.

Try the Doctor Rowena Halley series! Loves hurts. Sometimes it kills. After the tumultuous events of the previous semester, Russian professor Rowena Halley has found a new job. This time it’s a one-semester adjunct position in Charlotte, North Carolina. Not ideal, but better than no job at all. At least that’s what she’s telling herself. Rowena loves what she does, but love isn’t always kind. Everyone knows that “publish or perish” is the rule in academia, but if Rowena isn’t careful, she may perish before she gets the chance to publish. Combining humor, romance, and suspense, Permanent Position gives an insider’s view of the gritty backstage of higher education, where words do more than cut and all the testing is high-stakes. *Content warning: We've got angsty adjunct professors, mouthy undergrads, a cynical Navy vet, and a career Marine all mixing it up in here. The level of adult language is significant.*
