Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Humor Hack is an entirely different book about using humor to lead a more engaged life. It's a playbook filled with anecdotes, exercises, and discussion of topics that will provide readers a way to understand how humor works and how they can take this knowledge and enrich their personal and professional lives with more laughs, enjoyment, and mirth. The book's content is based in research, but not academic in tone or format, and is accessible to the general reader. The subject matter is broken into chapters that teach people how to understand, recognize, and produce more humor in their day-to-day lives. It is written in a friendly and warm tone and avoids being nothing more than a series of stories about humor or an overly theory-laden academic book. It provides readers with a book that is enjoyable to read, informative, playful, and educational. That's why this is best described as a playbook. The book is meant to provide a sort of text that is missing in the current books out there that profess to be humor how-tos. It takes research related to humor and discusses it in an informed yet accessible fashion.

Book Entrances and Exits

Download or read book Entrances and Exits written by Michael Richards and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-06-04 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The man who brought the kavorka to the Seinfeld show through one of the most remarkable and beloved television characters ever invented, Kramer, shares the extraordinary life of a comedy genius—the way he came into himself as an artist, the ups and downs as a human being, the road he has traveled in search of understanding. “The hair, so essential, symbolizes the irrational that was and is and always will be the underlying feature not only of Kramer but of comedy itself. This seemingly senseless spirit has been coursing through me since childhood. I’ve been under its almighty influence since the day I came into this world. I felt it all within myself, especially the physical comedy, the body movements, so freakish and undignified, where I bumped into things, knocked stuff down, messed up situations, and often ended up on my ass. “This book is a hymn to the irrational, the senseless spirit that breaks the whole into pieces, a reflection on the seemingly absurd difficulties that intrude upon us all. It’s Harpo Marx turning us about, shaking up my plans, throwing me for a loop. Upset and turmoil is with us all the time. It’s at the basis of comedy. It’s the pratfall we all take. It’s the unavoidable mistake we didn’t expect. It’s everywhere I go. It’s in the way that I am, both light and dark, good and not-so-good. It’s my life.” —Michael Richards, from Entrances and Exits

Book It S About the People Not Just the Games

Download or read book It S About the People Not Just the Games written by Paul Kenyon and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theres no one in Rhode Island who has covered as many sporting events in as many places as Paul Kenyon. Over his fifty-year career as a journalist (including thirty-seven years at The Providence Journal), he covered the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, University of Rhode Island basketball, high school sports, all things golf, and other sports. As much as he enjoyed watching and writing about the games, it was getting to know what the coaches and athletes were like as people that most held his attention. Tom Brady, for instance, used his smarts as much as his talent to win big games. Tiger Woods has done much for himself and society, but he could do so much more. Lamar Odom is an easy man to like, but hes always lacked maturity. Whether its national events such as Major League baseball playoffs, the Super Bowl, the NCAA Basketball Tournament and Ryder Cup Golf or regular season matchups between arch rivals, Kenyon tells stories that focus on the people behind the scores. Join Kenyon as he celebrates his love of writing, athletics, and teamwork in Its about the People, Not Just the Games.

Book If It Swings It s Music

Download or read book If It Swings It s Music written by Gabe Baltazar and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2012-05-17 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hawai‘i’s legendary jazz musician Gabe Baltazar Jr. has thrilled audiences since the late 1940s with his powerful and passionate playing. In this, the first book on his life and career, Gabe takes readers through the highs, lows, and in-betweens on the long road to becoming one of the very few Asian Americans who has achieved worldwide acclaim as a jazz artist. At a young age Gabe was encouraged by his father, an accomplished musician, to take up the clarinet and saxophone. As a teenager during World War II, Gabe performed with the Royal Hawaiian Band but spent his weekends playing in swing bands. After establishing himself in the West Coast jazz scene, in 1960 he rose to prominence as lead alto saxophonist of the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Following a four-year stint with Kenton, Gabe worked as a valued studio musician, recording with Dizzy Gillespie, Oliver Nelson, and James Moody, among others. In 1969 he returned to Honolulu and went on to become Hawai‘i’s premier jazz artist, a role he admirably fulfilled for over forty years. Even into his eighties, Gabe remained active in jazz education and performed regularly. Gabe’s memorable encounters with some of the greatest names in jazz and popular entertainment will delight music fans, while readers of Hawai‘i and Asian-American life-writing will find in this work a fond record of days past told with humor and heart.
