Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

Book Mental Health and the Church

Download or read book Mental Health and the Church written by Stephen Grcevich, MD and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church across North America has struggled to minister effectively with children, teens, and adults with common mental health conditions and their families. One reason for the lack of ministry is the absence of a widely accepted model for mental health outreach and inclusion. In Mental Health and the Church: A Ministry Handbook for Including Children and Adults with ADHD, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, and Other Common Mental Health Conditions, Dr. Stephen Grcevich presents a simple and flexible model for mental health inclusion ministry for implementation by churches of all sizes, denominations, and organizational styles. The model is based upon recognition of seven barriers to church attendance and assimilation resulting from mental illness: stigma, anxiety, self-control, differences in social communication and sensory processing, social isolation and past experiences of church. Seven broad inclusion strategies are presented for helping persons of all ages with common mental health conditions and their families to fully participate in all of the ministries offered by the local church. The book is also designed to be a useful resource for parents, grandparents and spouses interested in promoting the spiritual growth of loved ones with mental illness.

Book The Greatness of the shift Don t Abort Your Purpose Detiny is Calling You Into The Greatness of the Shift

Download or read book The Greatness of the shift Don t Abort Your Purpose Detiny is Calling You Into The Greatness of the Shift written by Apostle Nadine Manning and published by Birthing Process Series. This book was released on 2019-04-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was after two (2) miscarriages that my Suddenly of God miracles manifested. When the light shine in darkness, darkness shall not overcome it, that summarize basically "The Greatness of the SHIFT." Kingdom Busted means that out of your darkness of despair, trials, afflictions, persecution, rejection or pain God uses it to unlock the treasures within you. Kingdom Busted means our dreams and visions are birth out of darkness - "The Thick Darkness." Understand, that in the History of the Bible from Genesis we see that in the thick darkness: - that's where God was. Genesis 1:1-2 says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters."When you go through dark times or moments in your life don't make cheap talk about it. It is time to move deeper and get beyond the dim view and superficial talks about the history of the Bible and declare in confidence that: "The darkness of my despair, painful trials and circumstances is where God was and is." His light shines in my darkness and the darkness cannot put it out. I decree and declare that, "The darkness cannot put out the light of God." Coupled with Divine Revelation from the Holy Spirit, my own personal experience and testimony, this book, "The Greatness of the Shift" encourages you to P.U.S.H. [Persevere Until Something Happens]. It was designed to empower and encourage you to "Don't Abort Your Purpose, Destiny Is Calling You." The book of Habakkuk 2:3 declares, "This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed."The greatest supernatural move of God is birthed through men and women considered by others as not worthy, not qualified for the call, purpose or position. But in God's eyes they are not qualified for the call, purpose or position as "Kingdom Shifters." This is your season of discovery as God is seeking out those that are being overlooked to be discovered. -Is it you, the very ones seen as an outcast, despised and rejected by men? -Have you experience public shame in your life or ministry? -Have you been labeled an outcast on the job, in your family or even within the church community? -Were you told by the doctor that your situation will not change except you receive a Divine Miracle? -Were you the one your parents told you that they tried to abort, or they almost miscarried you during the pregnancy?-Have you been suffering from mental fatigue and depression, because everything you tried to do in life it seems like it has failed? -Are you the one they have talked about in a negative manner because of the false accusations and lies they heard about your life or situation? -Do you feel like Jeremiah, not competent or don't have what it takes even though the call is evident, and you have received several confirmations?-Do you feel like Joseph that because of your dream you are despised and hated by your biological and spiritual brothers or sisters?"I declare to you that a God is about to change your story and he alone will get the glory. God is getting you ready for a Supernatural Visitation, Divine Shift and He will use every painful trial and suffering you have been through as an opportunity for you to manifest signs and wonders. You are a Kingdom Shifter. God has handpicked you to be Kingdom Busted for a dangerous deliverance like the four Lepers at the Gate that will propel you into the Suddenlies of God encounter changing your story and birthing within you the anointing to become a "Carrier of the Shift."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.

Book Thinking Critically About Abortion

Download or read book Thinking Critically About Abortion written by Nathan Nobis and published by Open Philosophy Press. This book was released on 2019-06-19 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to the many arguments and controversies concerning abortion. While it argues for ethical and legal positions on the issues, it focuses on how to think about the issues, not just what to think about them. It is an ideal resource to improve your understanding of what people think, why they think that and whether their (and your) arguments are good or bad, and why. It's ideal for classroom use, discussion groups, organizational learning, and personal reading. From the Preface To many people, abortion is an issue for which discussions and debates are frustrating and fruitless: it seems like no progress will ever be made towards any understanding, much less resolution or even compromise. Judgments like these, however, are premature because some basic techniques from critical thinking, such as carefully defining words and testing definitions, stating the full structure of arguments so each step of the reasoning can be examined, and comparing the strengths and weaknesses of different explanations can help us make progress towards these goals. When emotions run high, we sometimes need to step back and use a passion for calm, cool, critical thinking. This helps us better understand the positions and arguments of people who see things differently from us, as well as our own positions and arguments. And we can use critical thinking skills help to try to figure out which positions are best, in terms of being supported by good arguments: after all, we might have much to learn from other people, sometimes that our own views should change, for the better. Here we use basic critical thinking skills to argue that abortion is typically not morally wrong. We begin with less morally-controversial claims: adults, children and babies are wrong to kill and wrong to kill, fundamentally, because they, we, are conscious, aware and have feelings. We argue that since early fetuses entirely lack these characteristics, they are not inherently wrong to kill and so most abortions are not morally wrong, since most abortions are done early in pregnancy, before consciousness and feeling develop in the fetus. Furthermore, since the right to life is not the right to someone else’s body, fetuses might not have the right to the pregnant woman’s body—which she has the right to—and so she has the right to not allow the fetus use of her body. This further justifies abortion, at least until technology allows for the removal of fetuses to other wombs. Since morally permissible actions should be legal, abortions should be legal: it is an injustice to criminalize actions that are not wrong. In the course of arguing for these claims, we: 1. discuss how to best define abortion; 2. dismiss many common “question-begging” arguments that merely assume their conclusions, instead of giving genuine reasons for them; 3. refute some often-heard “everyday arguments” about abortion, on all sides; 4. explain why the most influential philosophical arguments against abortion are unsuccessful; 5. provide some positive arguments that at least early abortions are not wrong; 6. briefly discuss the ethics and legality of later abortions, and more. This essay is not a “how to win an argument” piece or a tract or any kind of apologetics. It is not designed to help anyone “win” debates: everybody “wins” on this issue when we calmly and respectfully engage arguments with care, charity, honesty and humility. This book is merely a reasoned, systematic introduction to the issues that we hope models these skills and virtues. Its discussion should not be taken as absolute “proof” of anything: much more needs to be understood and carefully discussed—always.

Book Beating Hearts

Download or read book Beating Hearts written by Sherry F. Colb and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can someone who condemns hunting, animal farming, and animal experimentation also favor legal abortion, which is the deliberate destruction of a human fetus? The authors of Beating Hearts aim to reconcile this apparent conflict and examine the surprisingly similar strategic and tactical questions faced by activists in the pro-life and animal rights movements. Beating Hearts maintains that sentience, or the ability to have subjective experiences, grounds a being's entitlement to moral concern. The authors argue that nearly all human exploitation of animals is unjustified. Early abortions do not contradict the sentience principle because they precede fetal sentience, and Beating Hearts explains why the mere potential for sentience does not create moral entitlements. Late abortions do raise serious moral questions, but forcing a woman to carry a child to term is problematic as a form of gender-based exploitation. These ethical explorations lead to a wider discussion of the strategies deployed by the pro-life and animal rights movements. Should legal reforms precede or follow attitudinal changes? Do gory images win over or alienate supporters? Is violence ever principled? By probing the connections between debates about abortion and animal rights, Beating Hearts uses each highly contested set of questions to shed light on the other.
