Book Yours Cruelly Elvira

Download or read book Yours Cruelly Elvira written by Cassandra Peterson and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The woman behind the icon known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the undisputed Queen of Halloween, reveals her full story filled with intimate bombshells—told by the bombshell herself. On Good Friday in 1953, at only 18 months old, 25 miles from the nearest hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, Cassandra Peterson reached for a pot on the stove and doused herself in boiling water. Third-degree burns covered 35% of her body, and the prognosis wasn't good. But she survived. Burned and scarred, the impact stayed with her and became an obstacle she was determined to overcome. Feeling like a misfit led to her love of horror. While her sisters played with Barbie dolls, Cassandra built model kits of Frankenstein and Dracula, and idolized Vincent Price. Due to a complicated relationship with her mother, Cassandra left home at 14, and by age 17 she was performing at the famed Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. Run-ins with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Tom Jones helped her grow up fast. Then a chance encounter with her idol Elvis Presley, changed the course of her life forever, and led her to Europe where she worked in film and traveled Italy as lead singer of an Italian pop band. She eventually made her way to Los Angeles, where she joined the famed comedy improv group, The Groundlings, and worked alongside Phil Hartman and Paul "Pee-wee" Reubens, honing her comedic skills. Nearing age 30, a struggling actress considered past her prime, she auditioned at local LA channel KHJ as hostess for the late night vintage horror movies. Cassandra improvised, made the role her own, and got the job on the spot. Yours Cruelly, Elvira is an unforgettably wild memoir. Cassandra doesn't shy away from revealing exactly who she is and how she overcame seemingly insurmountable odds. Always original and sometimes outrageous, her story is loaded with twists, travails, revelry, and downright shocking experiences. It is the candid, often funny, and sometimes heart-breaking tale of a Midwest farm girl's long strange trip to become the world's sexiest, sassiest Halloween icon. Book We Too Essays on Sex Work and Survival

Download or read book We Too Essays on Sex Work and Survival written by Natalie West and published by Feminist Press at CUNY. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of narrative essays by sex workers presents a crystal-clear rejoinder: there's never been a better time to fight for justice. Responding to the resurgence of the #MeToo movement in 2017, sex workers from across the industry—hookers and prostitutes, strippers and dancers, porn stars, cam models, Dommes and subs alike—complicate narratives of sexual harassment and violence, and expand conversations often limited to normative workplaces. Writing across topics such as homelessness, motherhood, and toxic masculinity, We Too: Essays on Sex Work and Survival gives voice to the fight for agency and accountability across sex industries. With contributions by leading voices in the movement such as Melissa Gira Grant, Ceyenne Doroshow, Audacia Ray, femi babylon, April Flores, and Yin Q, this anthology explores sex work as work, and sex workers as laboring subjects in need of respect—not rescue. A portion of this book's net proceeds will be donated to SWOP Behind Bars (SBB).

Book excerpt: A collection of e-mails exchanged with a man who would become my cuckold husband. My interest in a twisted fantasy becomes a journey to becoming a dominant wife. {Excerpt}...I will be leaving for my date at 6pm. There is a party to attend, & I imagine he will be taking me somewhere to "do" me after. I can't predict what time I will be home, but if I have to guess, at the very latest 11-12. I won't end my date early to accommodate you. But since I don't know yet when I will arrive home, I would like you to still be awake as I may need some "servicing" after.... {Excerpt}...I have enjoyed thoroughly knowing that my emails make you sweat, I love to say something that I know shocks you, just to try different things, different ways of making you sweat. I'm sure you understand.... _Excerpt}...You don't have to think about what to say and do and feel, I've decided for you. M is going to do me with that perfect rod for so long, and you know I will be sore and red and swollen. Your mouth will feel so soft and nice on my me after a good lay by such a man. Also, when his potent sperm is spilled across me, you'll have little time to be sure that M's seed doesn't gain access to me. His creamy sperm mustn't reach my pussy, for it would surely impregnate me. We can't have that..... You have to clean it up........ {Excerpt}...I really don't see what the problem could be. You want my lover to keep coming and enjoying himself, right? I want to make myself look pretty for my new lover, and keep him coming back to stuff his HUGE self into me. It's no different than when I do anything else for him before a date. I shower for him. I shave my legs, for him. I do a bit more with my hair.....for him. It's all for a purpose. The more I turn on my lover, the more excited he gets, ultimately, the more mess for you to deal with. I enjoy humiliating you cocky, and so the more sperm milked from my lovers means all the more time I will have to treat you like the cuckold husband you are. All giving me pleasure at your expense. So, you have to admit, it's all done for you too. You should be happy I trimmed my hair for him. You should be happy I will give you the opportunity to experience my me with all 5 of your senses, up close, after being filled by a superior man. Tonight, you will get that privilege again. ... {Excerpt}...Where it ends up never matters either, because where ever it falls, it all ends up in the same place in the end. If it is runny, thin, goopy, drippy, gloppy, chunky, sticky, tacky, or even when it smells strong and pungent, it's up to you to clean up every drop. ... {Excerpt}...It's only fair that I inform you of what I expect from you during the wedding and the honeymoon, because I do have specific plans, and instructions for you. All of this is just to establish firmly from the start what your role is as my husband, my faithful cuckold. To prepare for our honeymoon, you will be expected to make the arrangements. You will book us for a hotel suite, you know, where we occupy 2 rooms, and there is a door connecting the 2 rooms inside. You will need to book this kind of room so that I can continue cuckolding you when I like throughout our honeymoon.

Book Vanderbilt

Download or read book Vanderbilt written by Anderson Cooper and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author and journalist Anderson Cooper teams with New York Times bestselling historian and novelist Katherine Howe to chronicle the rise and fall of a legendary American dynasty—his mother’s family, the Vanderbilts. One of the Washington Post's Notable Works of Nonfiction of 2021 When eleven-year-old Cornelius Vanderbilt began to work on his father’s small boat ferrying supplies in New York Harbor at the beginning of the nineteenth century, no one could have imagined that one day he would, through ruthlessness, cunning, and a pathological desire for money, build two empires—one in shipping and another in railroads—that would make him the richest man in America. His staggering fortune was fought over by his heirs after his death in 1877, sowing familial discord that would never fully heal. Though his son Billy doubled the money left by “the Commodore,” subsequent generations competed to find new and ever more extraordinary ways of spending it. By 2018, when the last Vanderbilt was forced out of The Breakers—the seventy-room summer estate in Newport, Rhode Island, that Cornelius’s grandson and namesake had built—the family would have been unrecognizable to the tycoon who started it all. Now, the Commodore’s great-great-great-grandson Anderson Cooper, joins with historian Katherine Howe to explore the story of his legendary family and their outsized influence. Cooper and Howe breathe life into the ancestors who built the family’s empire, basked in the Commodore’s wealth, hosted lavish galas, and became synonymous with unfettered American capitalism and high society. Moving from the hardscrabble wharves of old Manhattan to the lavish drawing rooms of Gilded Age Fifth Avenue, from the ornate summer palaces of Newport to the courts of Europe, and all the way to modern-day New York, Cooper and Howe wryly recount the triumphs and tragedies of an American dynasty unlike any other. Written with a unique insider’s viewpoint, this is a rollicking, quintessentially American history as remarkable as the family it so vividly captures.

Book Dominatrix

  • Author : Danielle J. Lindemann
  • Publisher : University of Chicago Press
  • Release : 2012-10-03
  • ISBN : 0226482596
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book Dominatrix written by Danielle J. Lindemann and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2012-10-03 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our lives are full of small tensions, our closest relationships full of struggle: between woman and man, artist and customer, purist and commercialist, professional and client—and between the dominant and the submissive. In Dominatrix, Danielle Lindemann draws on extensive fieldwork and interviews with professional dominatrices in New York City and San Francisco to offer a sophisticated portrait of these unusual professionals, their work, and their clients. Prior research on sex work has focused primarily on prostitutes and most studies of BDSM absorb pro-domme/client relationships without exploring what makes them unique. Lindemann satisfies our curiosity about these paid encounters, shining a light on one of the most secretive and least understood of personal relationships and unthreading a heretofore unexamined patch of our social tapestry. Upending the idea that these erotic laborers engage in simple exchanges and revealing the therapeutic and analytic nature of their work, Lindemann makes a major contribution to cultural studies, anthropology, and queer studies with her analysis of how gender, power, sexuality, and hierarchy shape all of our social experiences.

Book How Canadians Communicate V

Download or read book How Canadians Communicate V written by David Taras and published by Athabasca University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fewer Canadians than ever are lacing up skates, swimming lengths at the pool, practicing their curve ball, and experiencing the thrill of competition. However, despite a decline in active participation, Canadians spend enormous amounts of time and money on sports, as fans and followers of sporting events and sports culture. Never has media coverage of sports been more exhaustive, and never has it been more driven by commercial interests and the need to fuel consumerism, on which corporate profits depend. But the power plays now occurring in the arena of sports are by no means solely a matter of money. At issue as well in the media capture of sports are the values that inform our daily lives, the physical and emotional health of the population, and the symbols so long central to a sense of Canadian identity. Writing from a variety of perspectives, the contributors to this collection set out to explore the impact of the media on our reception of, and attitudes toward, sports—to unpack the meanings that sports have for us as citizens and consumers. Some contributors probe the function of sports as spectacle—the escalation of violence, controversies over drug use, and the media’s coverage of tragic deaths—while others shed light on the way in which the media serve to transform sports into a vehicle for the expression of identity and nationalism. The goal is not to score points but to prompt critical discussion of why sports matter in Canadian life and culture and how they contribute to the construction of identity.

Book Progressive Capitalism

Download or read book Progressive Capitalism written by Ro Khanna and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congressman Ro Khanna offers a revolutionary, “progressive” (James J. Heckman, Nobel Prize winner and professor of economics at the University of Chicago) roadmap to facing America’s digital divide, offering greater economic prosperity to all. In Khanna’s vision, “just as people can move to technology, technology can move to people” (from the foreword by Amartya Sen, Nobel Laureate in Economics) where “Khanna envisions redistributing opportunities from coastal cities to rural middle-America…An exciting vision, brilliantly rendered.” (Arlie Russell Hochschild, author of Strangers in Their Own Land). Unequal access to technology and the revenue it creates is one of the most pressing issues in the United States. An economic gulf exists between those who have struck gold in the tech industry and those left behind by the digital revolution; a geographic divide between those in the coastal tech industry and those in the heartland whose jobs have been automated; and existing inequalities in the technological access—students without computers, rural workers with spotty WiFi, and many workers without the luxury to work remotely. Congressman Ro Khanna’s Progressive Capitalism tackles these challenges head-on and imagines how the digital economy can create opportunities for people across the country without uprooting them. Anchored by an approach Khanna calls “progressive capitalism,” he shows how democratizing access to tech can strengthen every sector of economy and culture. By expanding technological jobs nationwide through public and private partnerships, we can close the wealth gap in America and begin to repair the fractured, distrusting relationships that have plagued our country for fall too long. Inspired by his own story born into an immigrant family, Khanna understands how economic opportunity can change the course of a person’s life. Moving deftly between storytelling, policy, and some of the country’s greatest thinkers in political philosophy and economics, Khanna presents a vision we can’t afford to ignore. Progressive Capitalism is a “practical and aspirational” (Kimberlé Crenshaw, professor of law at UCLA and Columbia University) roadmap to how we can seek dignity for every American in an era in which technology shapes every aspect of our lives.
