Download or read book Unholy Business written by Nina Burleigh and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2008-10-08 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2002, an ancient limestone box called the James Ossuary was trumpeted on the world's front pages as the first material evidence of the existence of Jesus Christ. Today it is exhibit number one in a forgery trial involving millions of dollars worth of high-end, Biblical era relics, some of which literally re-wrote Near Eastern history and which could lead to the incarceration of some very wealthy men and embarrass major international institutions, including the British Museum and Sotheby's. Set in Israel, with its 30,000 archaeological digs crammed with biblical-era artifacts, and full of colorful characters—scholars, evangelicals, detectives, and millionaire collectors—Unholy Business tells the incredibly story of what the Israeli authorities have called "the fraud of the century." It takes readers into the murky world of Holy Land relic dealing, from the back alleys of Jerusalem's Old City to New York's Fifth Avenue, and reveals biblical archaeology as it is pulled apart by religious believers on one side and scientists on the other.

Book Sacred Commerce

Download or read book Sacred Commerce written by Matthew Engelhart and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2008-05-06 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this timely book, authors Matthew and Terces Engelhart present the idea that love before appearances is the antidote to our spiritual, environmental, and social degradation. Exploring topics such as mission statements, manager as coach, human resources as a sacred culture, and inspirational meetings, they offer a manual for building a spiritual community at the workplace—a vital concept in an age when work consumes the bulk of most adults’ time. Business, the authors explain, is all about providing a service, product, or experience the market wants, and no business can succeed by failing to understand this point. However, integrating the concept of “Sacred Commerce” into business can provide both financial success and spiritual satisfaction. Stressing that every business is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of both clients and employees, the Engelharts share the tools they’ve learned in their own enterprises to fulfill this vision. Sacred Commerce is the ideal mix of the personal and the practical—a guidebook written by people who have felt success, not just spent it. Dissatisfaction with work is at record levels, and the Engelharts show that you don’t have to suffer personally—or give up your humanity—to pay the mortgage.

It is designed to be used by business persons and their church leaders so that together they can embrace business as a full-time Christian calling.

Book Martin Buber on Myth RLE Myth

Download or read book Martin Buber on Myth RLE Myth written by S. Daniel Breslauer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1990, summarizes and evaluates the contribution of Martin Buber as a theorist of myth. Buber provides explicit guidelines for understanding and evaluating myths. He describes reality as twofold: people live either in a world of things, to which they relate as a subject controlling its objects, or in a world of self-conscious others, with whom one relates as fellow subjects. Human beings require both types of reality, but also a means of moving from one to the other. Buber understands myths as one such means by which people pass from I-It reality to I-You meeting. In studying myths, he focuses on the myths in the traditions he knows best, but offers his advice and interpretation of mythology and scholarship about mythology generally.

Book Doing Business with God

  • Author : Apostle Joshua Selman
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-12-09
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 30 pages

Download or read book Doing Business with God written by Apostle Joshua Selman and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-09 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no believer who sits down knowing what God has ordained for your life and watch the enemies play game with your life and you sit down hoping that things will change. No sir! You have to engage with understanding until that which is yours comes to you. The bible says "right from the days of John the Baptist and until now, the kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force". I am passionate about results; I never associate with anything that has no capacity to produce results. I am a result-driven person, this is a result-driven ministry; the fierceness of life does not allow for stories and drama. People wants real results in their lives and let me tell you this; no matter what you claim to be doing, if it doesn't translate to genuine result, you are only wasting people's time. John 15:8 "Herein is our father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so, shall ye be my disciples". When your results are notable beyond arguments, sentiments, that is when you will prove that you have sat down under his mentorship and tutelage. Your result validates the efficacy of the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit. When our lives are barren of certain dimensions of results, it is an indictment on the person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Results that defile background, the expectation of nay-sayers, and men and women who look forward for your failures and their self-fulfilling prophecy, but you must contend for it. I have been thinking about it throughout the week, I have been praying that God, there are dimensions that we must enter before the end of this year. The word of God will not go void, when he speaks, it is within his power to make it happen. It has always been with partnership; that the heaven will partner with the earth for realities to be established here. My assignment is therefore to scan through and make sure we tie every loose end that can sabotage this prophecy in finding expression, my job is to find and indoctrinate us with the truths that are capable of bringing results. Results that are predictable, consistent, results that have nothing to do with the wishes of men.Read This Book and be Blessed

Book Baptizing Business

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bradley C. Smith
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2020-07-27
  • ISBN : 0190055782
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book Baptizing Business written by Bradley C. Smith and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-07-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptizing Business sifts through popular perceptions regarding the relationship between business and religion and the agenda of conservative Christian business leaders, drawing on personal interviews with the most diverse group of evangelical executives yet studied. While stereotypes and previous research both emphasize the perceived incompatibility of religious mandates and business objectives, Bradley C. Smith argues that evangelical executives experience tension not because business and religion are inherently opposed, but because they are made to feel like second-class citizens by members of their own faith communities. Indeed, in cases of apparent conflict between faith and business, evangelical executives insist that it is faith, not business, that must be reconceived. Smith reveals that evangelical business leaders are as inclined to export business concepts into other domains as to import religious objectives into business contexts, prompting us to reconsider the direction of influence between religious and economic life. Baptizing Business is filled with compelling stories that paint a nuanced, unbiased picture of the increasing influence of intensely religious business leaders. The "spirit of capitalism," defined by Max Weber as a positive attitude toward work and wealth, finds ongoing embrace and new expression in evangelical executives and their accounts, with implications for our understanding of the faith at work movement, evangelicalism, and the role of religion among elites.

Book Kosher Nation

  • Author : Sue Fishkoff
  • Publisher : Schocken
  • Release : 2010-10-12
  • ISBN : 0805242651
  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Kosher Nation written by Sue Fishkoff and published by Schocken. This book was released on 2010-10-12 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kosher? That means the rabbi blessed it, right? Not exactly. In this captivating account of a Bible-based practice that has grown into a multibillions-dollar industry, journalist Sue Fishkoff travels throughout America and to Shanghai, China, to find out who eats kosher food, who produces it, who is responsible for its certification, and how this fascinating world continues to evolve. She explains why 86 percent of the 11.2 million Americans who regularly buy kosher food are not observant Jews—they are Muslims, Seventh-day Adventists, vegetarians, people with food allergies, and consumers who pay top dollar for food they believe “answers to a higher authority.” Fishkoff interviews food manufacturers, rabbinic supervisors, and ritual slaughterers; meets with eco-kosher adherents who go beyond traditional requirements to produce organic chicken and pasture-raised beef; sips boutique kosher wine in Napa Valley; talks to shoppers at an upscale kosher supermarket in Brooklyn; and marches with unemployed workers at the nation’s largest kosher meatpacking plant. She talks to Reform Jews who are rediscovering the spiritual benefits of kashrut, and to Conservative and Orthodox Jews who are demanding that kosher food production adhere to ethical and environmental values. And she chronicles the corruption, price-fixing, and strong arm tactics of early-twentieth-century kosher meat production, against which contemporary kashrut standards pale by comparison. A revelatory look at the current state of kosher in America, this book will appeal to anyone interested in food, religion, Jewish identity, or big business.
