Book Holistic Dental Care

Download or read book Holistic Dental Care written by Stephen A. Lawrence and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen A. Lawrence introduces readers to holistic dental care and its role in overall health. Most people America would like to maintain healthy teeth and gums during their lifetime. While conventional dental care still relies on outdated treatment methods, including the use of toxic elements such as mercury and fluoride, this is not the way dentistry must be practiced, and more and more patients are beginning to realize that there are safer, more effective ways to care for their teeth and gums. Holistic Dental Care: Your Mind, Body, and Spirit Guide to Optimal Health and a Beautiful Smile presents a positive, detailed, and easy-to-read argument for the benefits of a more open-minded, progressive, and integrative approach to dental care and overall health. Scientific studies suggest that our mind/body relationship, psychological function, physical activity, and the food we eat all affect us at biological levels, where our habits can alter our immune system and affect our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. When we get sick on any level, from an ordinary cold to a cavity or gum disease, it’s usually because of some imbalance in our immune system, often triggered by chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and toxins. Holistic dentistry addresses these issues by supporting a patient’s comprehensive health. Holistic dentist Stephen A. Lawrence’s new work introduces readers to safer, gentler, and more efficient way of treating their mouths and bodies, along with addressing their overall wellness. He offers a reader-friendly tour through how our body works, and approaches dental health through the lens of comprehensive wellness and summarizes current holistic dental healthcare ideas and products––to stop cavities and gum disease, rebuild teeth at home, and positively affect patients and those around them––as we strive to spread wellness worldwide. Considering the current explosion of green living all over America, the increased awareness of how toxins affect our health, and a rising interest in bettering our general quality of life through wellness and mindfulness, this work fills a gap in understanding how holistic dental health care can be part of an overall approach to healthier living now.

Information is empowering and reading about a famous person coping with cancer can not only be inspiring, it can save a life. That's what Reimagining Cancer exemplifies through each of the books in the series Cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. About half of all cancers are preventable and can be avoided if current medical knowledge is better delivered*. Beginning with a view of basic anatomy and an overview of how we view a particular cancer today, chapters flow easily into an explanation of signs, symptoms, diagnosis, scientific information and guidelines, and include a comprehensive survey of treatments and prevention. Woven throughout are stories, both medical and anecdotal, from women such as Angelina Jolie, Joan Lunden, Melissa Etheridge, Sandra Lee, Rita Wilson, Christina Applegate, and Suzanne Somers. Education is the key, and by using celebrity stories, Reimagining Women's Cancers can attract countless readers who might otherwise not pay attention to an epidemic that is likely to affect them or a loved one. * The recent World Cancer Report from the World Health Organization

Book Namaste the Hard Way

Download or read book Namaste the Hard Way written by Sasha Brown-Worsham and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My mother used to chant in Sanskrit in her study before sunrise every morning. Though she died when I was 16—22 years ago—I always hear her voice that way. Off-key, but strangely hypnotic, the language both complicated and pure, reverberating around our house. For a kid growing up in Southern Ohio — Bible belt country — the sound was both alluring and repellent. "What's your mother doing?" my friends would ask. "Being a weirdo," I told them. And so encapsulates the coming of age story of Sasha Brown, a transplanted tween plunked in the middle of the Bible Belt with a macrobiotic hippy mom and a ribs-eating dad. A writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Redbook, and Cosmopolitan, Brown's prose is heartfelt and hilarious, revealing her quest to find her way as two worlds collide. While other moms were at Bible study, her mom was studying Sanskrit; while other were finding friendship at Tupperware parties, her mom was finding enlightenment at the ashram. And when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, she chose a healthy diet and yoga over aggressive chemo. When her mother died, Brown ran as far away from yoga as she could until a running injury left her needing the very thing she was running from. It was there—on the mat—that she processed her grief and found her mother again. As she went deeper into the poses, she discovered she was more like her mother than she thought. Through it all, she found a deeper understanding of the practice, of the breath, and of the life her mother lost too young. The practice that once seemed easy and slow compared to pounding the pavement in a new pair of Asics became the biggest challenge of her life. She learned that yoga is so much more than asana. So much more than breath. So much more than perfect poses. The "union" of yoga became one of heart and mind, and finally, with that maternal energy Sasha had been missing for so many years. In the space that she focused her mind and pushed her body to its breaking point was where she would see her mother. In the space of her yoga mat, she and her mother connect across time. Namaste the Hard Way is an ode to the timeless bond between mothers and daughters. Plucky and poignant, Namaste the Hard Way is for anyone who didn't want to walk in their mother's shoes (or sandals).

Book Essential Living

Download or read book Essential Living written by Shelley Uram and published by Health Communications, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people think they know exactly what they want, but the way our brain works, what we really want is hidden from us. When most of us are asked what we want most in life, our answers usually come in broad strokes, such as having a certain amount of money, success, free time, living in a happy family, having a less stressful job, getting married, etc. Dr. Uram guides people to dig beneath the surface of what they think they want most. And through Essential Living we can discover what they discovered: most of us are on an indirect route that actually leads away from what we truly want most. After years of professional experience, Dr. Uram concludes that when we become aware of what we really want most and learn to calm and better regulate certain areas of our brain, we can change course and get on a path that takes us directly to our true desires. We are born with the four qualities we most want. They are actually inherent to our most basic nature, our Core Self, which we have lost touch with over time. As we grow up, however, we must turn our focus toward the "business of life" while our Core Self fades quietly into the background. As adults, our inherent Core Self is still the deepest driving force in our lives, yet we have forgotten how to recognize and connect with it. In Essential Living Dr. Uram shows us how we lost touch with our Core Self, and how we can train our brain to reconnect with it. We can then expand from where we are to where we truly want to be; experiencing life with greater peace, happiness, love and freedom.

Book Do You Dream in Color

Download or read book Do You Dream in Color written by Laurie Rubin and published by Seven Stories Press. This book was released on 2012-10-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colors, Rubin tells us, affect everyone through sound, smell, taste, and a vast array of emotions and atmospheres. She explains that although she has been blind since birth, she has experienced color all her life. In her memoir Do You Dream in Color?, Laurie Rubin looks back on her life as an international opera singer who happens to be blind. From her loneliness and isolation as a middle school student to her experiences skiing, Rubin offers her young readers a life-story rich in detail and inspiration drawn from everyday challenges. Beginning with her childhood in California, Rubin tells the story of her life and the amazing experiences that led her to a career as an internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano. Rubin describes her past as a "journey towards identity," one she hopes will resonate with young people struggling with two fundamental questions: "Who am I?" and "Where do I fit in?" Although most of us aren't blind, Rubin believes that many of us have traits that make us something other than "normal." These differences, like blindness, may seem like barriers, but for the strong and the persistent, dreams can overcome barriers, no matter how large they may seem. This is what makes her story so unique yet universal and so important for young readers.

Book Rx for Hope

  • Author : Nick Chen
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 2018-10-16
  • ISBN : 1538101610
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Rx for Hope written by Nick Chen and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our current era of rapidly developing cancer drugs and therapies, we also see improvement of cancer treatment outcomes stagnating when it comes to determining quality of life or long-term survival. This is because while new treatments are making small incremental progress in outcomes, most cancer patients still depend on conventional methods that are both toxic and ineffective. While new cancer drugs are becoming more precise or targeted, less attention is being paid to the overall health and wellbeing of the patient, which we propose is essential for long-term cancer control and improving a patient’s quality of life. Rx for Hope, backed by rigorous science and real-life patient cases, calls for an urgent reevaluation of the current conventional approach to cancer treatments and encourages a progressive treatment model combining metronomic low-dose chemotherapy with complementary integrative medicine. Along with new, breakthrough immunotherapy drugs, these treatments can potentially create a response powerful enough to not only eradicate the presence of cancer but also to prevent it from returning. Because every 23 seconds someone in America is diagnosed with cancer, the number of people affected is growing rapidly. The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly two million new patients will need treatment in the coming year. Judging by current trends and methods of treatment, far too many of these people will be treated without the benefits of low-dose chemotherapy, and even less will enjoy the positive impact of immune-supportive complementary integrative medicine. Rx for Hope offers insight into a powerful way of treating cancer that patients and doctors can implement immediately for optimal results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A charming, delightfully photographed tribute to the older dog, with essays and poetry. Gandhi once said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way that its animals are treated." How people regard older animals is especially revealing. Beautiful Old Dogs is a heartfelt, emotional, passionate tribute to old dogs. It will inspire many readers to get involved in senior dog rescue and adoption, as it honors our senior best friends and explores their current state of care and custody in an informative appendix. This book features the exquisite photography of the late Garry Gross, a noted fashion photographer during the 60s, 70s and 80s who, after becoming a highly successful dog trainer in New York City, turned his camera lens towards dogs. Gross, along with Victoria Stilwell from Animal Planet's It's Me or the Dog, founded Dog Trainers of New York in 2002, and became devoted to highlighting the plight and value of senior dogs. "The older the better," Gross said. "Dogs with soul in their eyes."David Tabatsky has collected Gross's photographs here, and carefully curated an accompanying selection of moving, insightful, funny, and uplifting essays and short pieces by a range of writers, with contributions from Anna Quindlen, Ally Sheedy, Christopher Durang, Doris Day, Dean Koontz, Marlo Thomas, and many more.

Book I Found God in Hollywood

Download or read book I Found God in Hollywood written by Brodsky Cliff Brodsky and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I Found God In Hollywood", is a collection of 98% true stories, that are charged, and intended to be humorous. However, if the lucky reader finds that they learn something about themselves, or have a spiritual epiphany, then I guess that would be a good thing. This is an autobiographical book of funny stories, from the perspective of a musician, and pot head who goes to Hollywood to find fame and fortune and ends up with a spiritual awakening. Go figure. Sometimes God has a better plan than we do. The book is organized into four sections. The first is a collection of 8 stories from High School. You know High School was, a lot of stress, and fun, and trouble, and big changes. My time in High School was during 1978 through 1982. The end of the 70's and the beginning of the 80's. What's so great about High School stories? Nothing really, if you had a boring, safe life. Everything, if you were me. Read on and see for yourself. The next obvious section is about college life. Boston was a great time to go to school in the 80's. Lots of good material there. But don't take my word for it. Read it and find out for yourself! After college came, you guessed it: Hollywood! Wouldn't that be a logical choice if you were a musician and pot head? Yup. Hollywood had hot chicks, great music scene, and good weed. Little did our humble here know what would happen next. Lastly, the fourth section is about Hollywood AFTER, Cliff gets sober. A much different reality, let me tell you. If you think Hollywood was psychedelic ON drugs, just imagine what its like SOBER! Much more trippy of a scene. Trust me on that one. So, this book is a collection of whacky, funny, rock n roll, stoner stories that have meaning, depth and dare I say profound spiritual implications. You don't have to go to Tibet and sit with the Dali Lama to find the mysteries of the Universe. Because quite frankly, NO ONE knows the mysteries of the Universe, including me. But, the bottom line is this: if you are interested in truth, honesty, integrity, virtue, prudence, humility...then, you can find that where ever you are. It just strikes me as a little odd, and interesting, that I just happened to have found God In Hollywood! One more thing, the illustrations in the book are really funny too. I think the illustrations are sort of a cross between Salvador Dali, Picasso, and Mad Magazine.

Download or read book Be the Wisdom You Want to See in Your Kids written by Ph. D. Magda Tarnawska Senel and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although most parents rate having children as the most meaningful experience of their lives, many find themselves pushed to their emotional and physical limits. Parenthood affords us the opportunity to become more compassionate, patient and understanding, but we also run the risk of becoming more irritable, impatient and intolerant. This book shows readers how they can transform everyday challenges into sources of empowerment and inspiration by demonstrating that joyful living and soulful parenting is not something that just happens by itself; it is a result of choices we make every day. It also presents several proven models for effectively achieving higher levels of fulfillment and a variety of creative activities for both parents and children. By guiding readers to find their own answers to such questions as: "What is the difference between a person who is unable to live a happy life and one who succeeds in living with a rich feeling of fulfillment? How do we arrive at adulthood behaving the way we do?" this book helps parents discover their most authentic and inspired selves and focus on raising joyful, happy and successful children who develop to their fullest potential.
