Download or read book Dogecoin History of the First Year written by Christopher P. Thompson and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BLACK & WHITE VERSION. Dogecoin (DOGE) is a decentralised cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin. It is a coin featuring a likeness of the Shiba Inu dog from the "Doge" Internet meme of the year 2013. It began as a "joke" cryptocurrency but soon gained traction as one of the most popular cryptocurrencies available. Jackson Palmer, an Adobe Marketing Specialist from Sydney, Australia posted a tweet from his own account which read ""Investing in Dogecoin, pretty sure it's the next big thing. http: //tmblr.co/ZXKfHx-duU4J" on the 28th of November 2013. At this time, the at value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were reaching all time high market capitalisations. It was also the time at which new coins were being launched every week. Jackson Palmer was following coins such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Feathercoin. Some people then encouraged Jack to create Dogecoin. Six days later, Jack bought the domain name www.dogecoin.com on which he placed a picture of a makeshift Dogecoin logo alongside a funny slogan. It was not long before the visitor count of this site increased substantially via retweets. On the 6th of December, a programmer from Oregon, USA called Billy Markus contacted Jack Palmer after seeing the website via direct link on an IRC chatroom. He created the source code and wallet client of Dogecoin ready for launch. This book is a detailed history of the first year of Dogecoin up to the 8th of December 2014 (the time at which the blockchain had been usable for one year by the general public)."

Book The Old Coin Book

Download or read book The Old Coin Book written by Jorge Lucendo and published by Jorge Lucendo. This book was released on 2020-04-08 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term numismatic derives from the Latin numismatis, genitive of numisma, variant of non-same («currency»). Numismatics is the science that studies currencies and elements formally or functionally related to them; that is to say, all the objects that by their external appearance resemble them, such as medals or tokens, as well as all those that perform a monetary function in ancient and modern societies (paper money, traditional money, etc.), and those related to its manufacture, official control and use (scales, dumbbells and weights). Numismatics played an important role in the development of historical studies, especially in the birth of Archeology. When dealing only with paper money, the term exclusive notafilia is usually preferred. The numismatics is known since the times of the Roman Empire, although it can not be known with certainty at what moment it began as a social phenomenon (collectors). Numismatics as a science begins timidly in the nineteenth century, a time of modernization and appreciation as such of all sciences, as we understand them today. This science can give invaluable testimony of the exchanges and economy of the peoples, as well as their political, geographical, religious history...

Book Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain

Download or read book Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain written by David Gerard and published by David Gerard. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental new Internet-based form of money is created that anyone can generate at home; people build frightening firetrap computers full of video cards, putting out so much heat that one operator is hospitalised with heatstroke and brain damage. A young physics student starts a revolutionary new marketplace immune to State coercion; he ends up ordering hits on people because they might threaten his great experiment, and is jailed for life without parole. Fully automated contractual systems are proposed to make business and the law work better; the contracts people actually write are unregulated penny stock offerings whose fine print literally states that you are buying nothing of any value. The biggest crowdfunding in history attracts $150 million on the promise that it will embody “the steadfast iron will of unstoppable code”; upon release it is immediately hacked, and $50 million is stolen. How did we get here? David Gerard covers the origins and history of Bitcoin to the present day, the other cryptocurrencies it spawned including Ethereum, the ICO craze and the 2017 crypto bubble, and the attempts to apply blockchains and smart contracts to business. Plus a case study on blockchains in the music industry. Bitcoin and blockchains are not a technology story, but a psychology story. Remember: if it sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is. “A sober riposte to all the upbeat forecasts about cryptocurrency” — New York Review of Books “A very convincing takedown of the whole phenomenon” — BBC News

Book The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World

Download or read book The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World written by Tom Roston and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “engrossing” history of the restaurant atop the World Trade Center “that ruled the New York City skyline from April 1976 until September 11, 2001” (Booklist, starred review). In the 1970s, New York City was plagued by crime, filth, and an ineffective government. The city was falling apart, and even the newly constructed World Trade Center threatened to be a fiasco. But in April 1976, a quarter-mile up on the 107th floor of the North Tower, a new restaurant called Windows on the World opened its doors—a glittering sign that New York wasn’t done just yet. In The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World, journalist Tom Roston tells the complete history of this incredible restaurant, from its stunning $14-million opening to 9/11 and its tragic end. There are stories of the people behind it, such as Joe Baum, the celebrated restaurateur, who was said to be the only man who could outspend an unlimited budget; the well-tipped waiters; and the cavalcade of famous guests as well as everyday people celebrating the key moments in their lives. Roston also charts the changes in American food, from baroque and theatrical to locally sourced and organic. Built on nearly 150 original interviews, The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World is the story of New York City’s restaurant culture and the quintessential American drive to succeed. “Roston also digs deeply into the history of New York restaurants, and how Windows on the World was shaped by the politics and social conditions of its era.” —The New York Times “The city’s premier celebration venue, deeply woven into its social, culinary and business fabrics, deserved a proper history. Roston delivers it with power, detail, humor and heartbreak to spare.” ?New York Post “A rich, complex account.” ?Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

Book The Infinite Machine

Download or read book The Infinite Machine written by Camila Russo and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written with the verve of such works as The Big Short, The History of the Future, and The Spider Network, here is the fascinating, true story of the rise of Ethereum, the second-biggest digital asset in the world, the growth of cryptocurrency, and the future of the internet as we know it. Everyone has heard of Bitcoin, but few know about the second largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, which has been heralded as the "next internet." The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted nineteen-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer. The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform—an infinitely adaptable foundation for experimentation and new applications—has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew: increased regulatory scrutiny, incipient Wall Street interest, and the founding team’s effort to get the Ethereum platform to scale so it can eventually be accessible to the masses. Financial journalist and cryptocurrency expert Camila Russo details the wild and often hapless adventures of a team of hippy-anarchists, reluctantly led by an ambivalent visionary, and lays out how this new foundation for the internet will spur both transformation and fraud—turning some into millionaires and others into felons—and revolutionize our ideas about money.
