Book Groundwater Management

Download or read book Groundwater Management written by Randall J. Charbeneau and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation of papers presents an international survey of contemporary issues related to groundwater management, and the current and emerging technologies involved. Modeling and case studies are provided, as topics range from groundwater/surface interactions to contaminated site remediation, multiphase flow, transboundary groundwater issues, and bioremediation. Geographic information systems, wellhead protection, agricultural contamination, and aquifer storage and recovery are also addressed. Specific papers examine the quantification, characterization, and treatment options of landfill leachate; irrigation, geology, and wetlands in semi-arid regions; remediation of contaminated aquifers with reclaimed sewage water; minimum cost design of a funnel-and-gate system; lake and surficial aquifer interaction; and evaluation of induced infiltration in glacial drift aquifers.

Book Effective Parameters of Hydrogeological Models

Download or read book Effective Parameters of Hydrogeological Models written by Vikenti Gorokhovski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geological models used in predictive hydrogeological modeling are not exact replicas of the objects they represent: many details related to structures and properties of the objects remain unknown. Those details may considerably affect simulation results. A provable evaluation of the uncertainty of hydrogeological and solute transport simulations are almost impossible. In this book the author describes how to obtain the best-possible results in simulations, based on the available data and predefined criteria that are turned into transforming mechanisms. The latter are mathematical expressions for evaluating model parameters supporting effective simulations. Examples of the mechanisms as well as methods of their evaluation are provided in this book. It is also shown how these mechanisms can be used for the interpretation of hydrogeological data. The first edition of this book was published in the series Springer Briefs in Earth Sciences.

Download or read book OpenGeoSys Tutorial written by Agnes Sachse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tutorial on the application of the open-source software OpenGeoSys (OGS) in computational hydrology is based on a one-week training course at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany. It provides general information regarding hydrological and groundwater flow modeling and the pre-processing and step-by-step model setups of a case study with OGS and related components such as the OGS Data Explorer. The tutorial also illustrates the application of pre- and post-processing tools such as ArcGIS and ParaView. This book is intended primarily for graduate students and applied scientists who deal with hydrological-system analysis and hydrological modeling. It is also a valuable source of information for practicing hydrologists wishing to further their understanding of the numerical modeling of coupled hydrological-hydrogeological systems. This tutorial is the first in a series that will present further OGS applications in environmental sciences.
