Book Documentary History of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America Vol 1

Download or read book Documentary History of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America Vol 1 written by Francis L. Hawks and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Documentary History of the Protestant Episcopal Church, in the United States of America, Vol. 1: Containing Numerous Hitherto Unpublished Documents Concerning the Church in Connecticut IN offering to our brethren this first volume of Church Documents, the editors are sensible that little need be said as to the nature and purposes of the work. They speak for themselves, and were, beside, fully explained in the commence ment of our undertaking. It is equally unnecessary to speak of its value as furnishing authentic materials for the early history of the Protestant Episcopal Church in our country. We ask support from our brethren not from any expecta tion or desire of pecuniary return, to either the editors or the publisher. The labors of the first named are gratuitous, and the last but asks that he may be reimbursed the moneys ex pended by him in producing the work. A second volume, now in press, will complete Connecticut; and the next diocese that will engage our attention will, probably, be Maryland. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Documentary History of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America, Vol. 2: Containing Numerous Hitherto Unpublished Documents Concerning the Church in Connecticut It was in my mind to have sent over to you some of the pamphlets that have been published on this occasion; but as my worthy predecessor, Dr. Johnson, (who has been obliged to retire here this winter, on account of the small pox in New York, ) tells me he has collected the chief that have been written, and transmitted them to his grace of Canterbury, I thought it might be giving you unnecessary trouble. Book The Oxford Handbook of Anglican Studies

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Anglican Studies written by Mark David Chapman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian denomination and claims a membership of some 80 million members in about 164 countries. Given that there are only around two hundred countries in the world, this makes the churches of the Anglican Communion the most geographicallywidespread denomination after Roman Catholicism. The 44 essays in this volume embrace a wide range of academic disciplines: theological; historical; demography and geography; and different aspects of culture and ethics. They are united in their discussion of what is effectively a newinter-disciplinary subject which we have termed "Anglican Studies". At the core of this volume is the phenomenon of "Anglicanism" as this is expressed in different places and in a variety of ways across the world. This Handbook covers a far broader set of topics from a wider range of perspectives than has been hitherto attempted in Anglican Studies. At the same time, it doesn't impose a particular theological or historical agenda. The contributions are drawn from across the spectrum of theological views andopinions. It shows that the unsettled nature of the polity is part of its own rich history; and many will see this as a somewhat lustrous tradition. In its comprehensive coverage, this volume is a valuable contribution to Anglican Studies and helps formulate a discipline that might perhaps promotedialogue and discussion across the Anglican world.
