Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries, sailors have noted that it's not the oceans that cause harm, but the hard bits around the edges. A parallel can be drawn to recreational sailors who are comfortable sailing in local or coastal waters but have not totally mastered the skills of returning the boat to the slip. Watching neighbors expertly guide their boats into slips and hearing them discuss terms like prop walk and spring lines, they realize there may be a gap in their knowledge. Now for the good news - this is the book you've been looking for. It is the most complete book written on everything you should know about docking your monohull or catamaran. Covering boat characteristics, environmental effects, and different scenarios, you will find a technique to safely dock your boat under any condition. Designed to be read in conjunction with American Sailing's 118 Docking Endorsement course, it is also a stand-alone book for any sailor wanting to improve boat handling skills. You will find everything you need to know in this 137-page book. - Learn why your boat handles like it does - Learn how to assess the variable effects - Learn to use external clues to assist your maneuvering - Learn to use spring lines and prop walk to your advantage - Impress your boat neighbors with your new skills - Learn to love docking

Book The Role of Prediction in Training with a Simulated Orbital Docking Task

Download or read book The Role of Prediction in Training with a Simulated Orbital Docking Task written by Charles R. Kelley and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of the literature relating to the role of prediction in manual control resulted in substantial evidence indicating that learning to control vehicles in complex maneuvers such as orbital docking is primarily a matter of learning to predict the future states of the vehicle. The purpose of this project was to: (a) investigate the relation between the ability to predict and manual control skill, and (b) determine the effect of prediction training on learning vehicular control. Two simulated docking experiments were performed. The results supported the hypothesis that ability to control is highly correlated with ability to predict. It was also demonstrated that while prediction training alone is no more effective than standard training, a combination of the two training methods appears to be much more effective than training in either control or prediction alone. It is therefore recommended that manual control training programs incorporate training in prediction. It is also recommended that associated training devices be revised or developed so as to incorporate means of training prediction skills and of measuring prediction capability. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular docking has always been and will be on the forefront of developments in the eminent field of drug design and medicinal chemistry. At the early days, drug discovery was based on blackboard drawings and expert intuition. However, as times move on, the amount of available information and overall knowledge base that needs to be analyzed cannot be processed manually. This, coupled by the rapid growth in computational infrastructure and processing power, has allowed for the efficient use of molecular docking tools and algorithms to be considered in the greater field of drug discovery. In the postgenomic era, molecular docking has become the key player for the screening of hundreds of thousands of compounds against a repertoire of pharmacological targets.

Book Guidance Navigation and Control for Spacecraft Rendezvous and Docking Theory and Methods

Download or read book Guidance Navigation and Control for Spacecraft Rendezvous and Docking Theory and Methods written by Yongchun Xie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-16 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the theory and design methods for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) in the context of spacecraft rendezvous and docking (RVD). The position and attitude dynamics and kinematics equations for RVD are presented systematically in accordance with several different coordinate systems, including elliptical orbital frame, and recommendations are supplied on which of these equations to use in different phases of RVD. The book subsequently explains the basic principles and relative navigation algorithms of RVD sensors such as GNSS, radar, and camera-type RVD sensors. It also provides guidance algorithms and schemes for different phases of RVD, including the latest research advances in rapid RVD. In turn, the book presents a detailed introduction to intelligent adaptive control and proposes corresponding theoretical approaches to thruster configuration and control allocation for RVD. Emphasis is placed on the design method of active and passive trajectory protection in different phases of RVD, and on the safety design of the RVD mission as a whole. For purposes of verification, the Shenzhou spacecraft’s in-orbit flight mission is introduced as well. All issues addressed are described and explained from basic principles to detailed engineering methods and examples, providing aerospace engineers and students both a basic understanding of, and numerous practical engineering methods for, GNC system design in RVD.
