Book excerpt: "Comedians have become the truth-tellers. Satire allows you to say almost anything. That's where truth is spoken to power in our society. When you sugarcoat a bitter truth with humor, it makes the medicine go down.” —Malcolm Gladwell Much like the comic strip, Dilbert, taught us about corporate office culture, Doc-Related now takes us behind the clinic doors of today’s ailing US healthcare system. A medley of anecdotes, comics, and data-backed musings, Doc-Related’s “truth-tellers” turn out to be a half-dozen characters you will surely recognize. Why? Because author, Dr. Peter Valenzuela, has literally created them from his 20-year experience as a practicing family physician and health system executive. Whether you’re one of the 16 million Americans who work in the US healthcare industry or simply someone who has tried to navigate its bureaucratic maze of insurance plans or electronic record systems—Doc-Related will help you see these challenges in a new light.

Download or read book The Transfer of Conflict Related Detainees written by Maral Kashgar and published by Nomos Verlag. This book was released on 2022-09-14 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book A Cop Doc s Guide to Public Safety Complex Trauma Syndrome

Download or read book A Cop Doc s Guide to Public Safety Complex Trauma Syndrome written by Daniel Rudofossi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Cop Doc's Guide to Public Safety Complex Trauma Syndrome" is written in response to the need for an advanced, specialized guide for clinicians to operationally define, understand, and responsibly treat complex post-traumatic stress and grief syndromes in the context of the unique varieties of police personality styles. The book continues where Rudofossi's first book, "Working with Traumatized Police Officer Patients", left off. Theory is wed to practice and practice to effective interventions with police officer-patients. The 'how' and 'why' of a clinician's approach is made highly effective by understanding the distinct personality styles of officer-patients. Rudofossi's theoretical approach segues into difficult examples that highlight each officer-patient's eco-ethological field experience of loss in trauma, with a focus on enhancing resilience and motivation to - otherwise left disenfranchised. Thus, this original work expands the ecological-ethological existential analysis of complex PTSD into the context of personality styles, with an emphasis on resilience - without ignoring the pathological aspects of loss that often envelop officer-patient trauma syndromes.

Book excerpt: The Western Division of the Montreal General Hospital was so close to the Forum that Montréal Canadiens players could put on skate guards and walk to the hospital’s emergency room. This was not a coincidence and established proximity as a priority. Dr. Douglas Kinnear supported twelve Stanley Cup winning Montréal Canadiens squads as team physician. Dr. David Mulder has been on the medical staff for over fifty years and for eight Stanley Cups. In Hockey Doc, these two legendary team physicians explore the dynamic doctor player relationship they came to know so well with a look at more than fifty years of medical care provided to the hockey club. Hockey Doc examines how the medical program for the Montréal Canadiens has evolved over its history due to its long-standing relationship with the MGH and the Molson family. The doctors breakdown major injuries with real-life examples that every team physician needs to be aware of and share career highlights. Featuring stories about Saku Koivu, Trent McCleary, Patrick Roy, Maurice Richard, Gump Worsley, Bobby Orr, Lou Lamoriello, and journalist Red Fisher – among countless others – Hockey Doc shares the inside jokes between doctor and player while providing a greater commentary on the evolution of sports medicine throughout two MGH doctors’ careers. For hockey fans of all ages and the Québec medical community, Hockey Doc shares the relationship between the injured professional athlete and the medical staff of a university medical centre and provides an inside look at the injuries and illnesses these doctors have faced over their storied careers.
