Book excerpt: An ice queen. A billionaire. A bribe turned to hell. And a date that leads Griffin into the wrong arms…at just the right moment. We’re smack dab in the middle of the biggest land development deal we’ve ever had. Sure, it’s with our brothers, but there’s still an expectation to uphold. Which is why it’s all that much more difficult to keep my head on straight. Especially when a certain someone ends up in the hospital, and I spend the night with her. It looks bad, I know, but I wasn’t leaving her. But now she’s pushing me away, like she’s punishing me for helping her. The girl is messed up. And don’t give me any of that crap about her healing from her past. Yolanda’s just cold. She’s looking to make me look bad. Until another certain someone comes into the picture. No, she doesn’t like that at all, so now all bets are off and the tables are turned. I can’t wait to see how she reacts when this other woman shows up unexpectedly, a half day’s drive away from home, just to see me. We’ll see then what Yolanda’s true colors are. *** Griffin is just like every other man. He wants me just to fulfill some locker room bet between him and his brothers. They all know who I am and what I used to be. It is all because of one of the Ford brothers and his big mouth. I will never live this legacy down. I will never find true happiness. I will always be hurt because of something that I did for survival. So when Griffin proves me wrong, you will understand why I must send him away. Because I know that deep down it will never work. Until I am given a grave scare and in that same breath a miracle swoops in and shows me how blind I have been. I am a fool. But will I also be a lonely fool? Only an encounter with the devil can show me if that is true. But it could all come tumbling down, anyway, because of another Ford brother, who has broken a cardinal rule. Will this family ever know peace? Will I? Only time will tell… HEA (Happily Ever After) Billionaire romance Medical romance Military romance Medium heat Course language Mild cliffhanger ending

Book Charlotte Perkins Gilman Novels Stories Poems LOA 356

Download or read book Charlotte Perkins Gilman Novels Stories Poems LOA 356 written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and published by Library of America. This book was released on 2022-08-30 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A definitive edition of the groundbreaking feminist fiction of a nineteenth century pioneer Library of America presents the fullest selection ever of visionary American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman: two novels, forty-four brilliant short stories, nearly two-hundred poems, and both the published and manuscript versions of the landmark story “The Yellow Wall-Paper.” The short fiction presented here showcases Gilman’s mastery of ghost stories, allegorical fantasy, and social realism and includes a virtuoso series of stories written in imitation of the most acclaimed authors of her day. The utopian novels Herland and With Her in Ourland—about a remote and isolated society of women—are pioneering works of speculative fiction and still-incisive commentaries on the politics of gender. Gilman was known to her contemporaries first and foremost as a poet, and this volume brings together her collection In This Our World with more than fifty other poems, many written in support of suffrage and other causes.

Book excerpt: Two strangers—one warm and human, the other deadly and craving—become pawns in an all-out vampire war as this series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Nightwalkers saga heats up. As an energy vampire, Halo enjoys the chase for human blood—if it’s pure and consensual. But Halo goes from hunter to hunted when he is knocked unconscious and taken hostage by vicious sycophants. As he comes to, he realizes that he’s naked, starving, and trapped in a sealed room. With him is a deliciously human female, tempting him to feed—except her blood is heady with the scent of poisonous drugs. Never has nourishment been so near, yet so far . . . and it’s all part of the sycophants’ sick game. The last thing Felice Mendoza remembers is everything going black. She awakens stripped, drugged, exposed, and alone—with a vampire. Halo is at once savage and tender, terrifying and alluring. Felice senses that her only chance to escape depends upon his survival. Given the choice between Halo and his enemies, Felice surrenders to his ravenous hunger. It’s a calculated risk—and a delirious pleasure. As Felice is ushered into a world as dangerous as it is desirable, their fight for deliverance is only the beginning. Book Moral Lessons in African Folktales

Download or read book Moral Lessons in African Folktales written by Kwame A. Insaidoo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-01-14 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges us to take a cursory glance at our contemporary world, where modern mans scientific and technological ingenuity has led him to soar thorough the galaxy and made the heavens part of his domain; and contrast that with his level of morality today. Open any newspaper or listen to the radio and television news and you cant help but lament on the appalling moral depravity and obscene behavior of our contemporary man. With this intractable moral depravity on the ascendancy, the author nostalgically reminiscences the upright morality of yesteryears, and admonishes us to heed Platos philosophical advice: now since men are by nature acquisitive, jealous, combative, and erotic, how shall we persuade them to behave themselves? By the policemans omnipresent club? {now, AK 47}. It is a brutal method, costly and irritating. There is a better way, and this is by lending to the moral requirements of the community. Throughout this book the author emphasizes the significance of proper moral education in shaping the character of children, youngsters and even adults, and reminds us: morals are the rules by which society exhorts its members and associations to behavior consistent with its 'order, security and growth {Will & Ariel Durant}. The author noted that in traditional African societies, the wise elders, like the ancient Greek philosophers, strongly emphasized the teachability of moral values and deliberately inculcated them into their youngsters. The stories in this book are folktales filled with moral lessons that have been handed down from many generations to the present in many African countries from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroons, Liberia, the Gambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania to Zimbabwe. The traditional African elders successfully utilized these folktales to socialize their youngsters to the moral requirements of their society to insure stability, harmonious relations, order, security and growth.
