Book DO AntiMixing and Rare Charm Decays

Download or read book DO AntiMixing and Rare Charm Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We review the current status of flavor-changing neutral currents in the charm sector. We focus on the standard-model predictions and identify the main sources of theoretical uncertainties in both charm mixing and rare charm decays. The potential of these observables for constraining short-distance physics in the standard model and its extensions is compromised by the presence of large nonperturbative effects. We examine the possible discovery windows in which short-distance physics can be tested and study the effects of various extensions of the standard model. The current experimental situation and future prospects are reviewed.

Book Search for D0 D0bar Mixing and Rare Charm Decays

Download or read book Search for D0 D0bar Mixing and Rare Charm Decays written by U. Egede and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a dataset acquired by the BABAR experiment running on and near the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance from 1999-2002, an upper limit is set on the rate of D{sup 0}-{bar D}{sup 0} mixing using the decay mode D*{sup +} {yields} D{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}, followed by a semi-leptonic decay of the D{sup 0}. Results are compared to previous BABAR analysis using hadronic decays. We also set limits on the flavor-changing neutral current decays D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup +}e{sup -} ({mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}) and the lepton-flavor violation decays D{sup 0} {yields} e{sup {+-}}{mu}{sup {-+}}.

Book Rare Charm Decays in the Standard Model and Beyond

Download or read book Rare Charm Decays in the Standard Model and Beyond written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We perform a comprehensive study of a number of rare charm decays, incorporating the first evaluation of the QCD corrections to the short distance contributions, as well as examining the long range effects. For processes mediated by the c 2!ull− transitions, we show that sensitivity to short distance physics exists in kinematic regions away from the vector meson resonances that dominate the total rate. In particular, we find that D 2![pi]ll− and D 2![rho]l+l− are sensitive to non-universal soft-breaking effects in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with R-parity conservation. We separately study the sensitivity of these modes to R-parity violating effects and derive new bounds on R-parity violating couplings. We also obtain predictions for these decays within extensions of the Standard Model, including extensions of the Higgs, gauge and fermion sectors, as well as models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking.

Book Searches for Rare Or Forbidden Semileptonic Charm Decays

Download or read book Searches for Rare Or Forbidden Semileptonic Charm Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present searches for rare or forbidden charm decays of the form X{sub c} 2!h{sup ±}l{sup {-+}}l{sup ({prime})+}, where X{sub c} is a charm hardron (D+, D{sub s}+, or [Lambda]{sub c}+), h{sup {+-}} is a pion, kaon, or proton, and l{sup ({prime}){+-}} is an electron or muon. The analysis is based on 384 fb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected at or close to the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signal is observed for any of the 35 decay modes that are investigated. We establish 90% confidence-level upper limits on the branching fractions between 1 x 10−6 and 44 x 10−6 depending on the channel. In most cases, these results represent either the first limits or significant improvements on existing limits for the decay modes studied.

Book Rare Charm and B Decays at CDF

Download or read book Rare Charm and B Decays at CDF written by Julia Thom and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results on rare charm and B decays using 65pb{sup -1} of data taken with the CDF detector in Run II. Three results are discussed, a measurement of the relative branching ratios {Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -})/{Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{pi}) and {Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -})/{Lambda}(D{sup 0} {yields} K{pi}) and the direct CP-violating decay rate asymmetry, and a limit on the branching ratio of the FCNC decay D{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}. We also discuss the prospects for the search for B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -} decays.

Book Search for Rare and Forbidden Charm Meson Decays at Fermilab E791

Download or read book Search for Rare and Forbidden Charm Meson Decays at Fermilab E791 written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors report the results of a blind search for flavor-changing neutral current, lepton-flavor violating, and lepton-number violating decays of D, D{sub s}, and D° mesons (and their antiparticles) into modes containing muons and electrons. Using data from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791, they examine the [pi]ll and Kll decay modes of D+ and D{sub s}+ and the l+l− decay modes of D°. No evidence for any of these decays is found. Therefore, they present branching-fraction upper limits at 90% confidence level for the 24 decay modes examined. Eight of these modes have no previously reported limits, and fourteen are reported with significant improvements over previously published results.

Book Flavor Mixing and Charm Decay

Download or read book Flavor Mixing and Charm Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of mixing matrix determination and their implications on heavy quark decays are given. The decays of charm mesons D°, D, F into two pseudoscalar mesons are discussed in the framework of SU(3) symmetry. The charm decays are also discussed in terms of quark diagrams. It is demonstrated that the differences observed in the lifetimes of D° and D+, and in the branching ratios B(D° .-->. K−K+) and B(D° .-->. .pi.−.pi.+) can be easily incorporated. 3 figures.

Book Why Most Flavor dependence Predictions for Nonleptonic Charm Decays are Wrong

Download or read book Why Most Flavor dependence Predictions for Nonleptonic Charm Decays are Wrong written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonleptonic weak decays of strange hadrons are complicated by the interplay of weak and strong interactions. Models based either on symmetry properties or on the selection of certain types of diagrams are both open to criticism. The symmetries used are all broken in strong interactions, and the selection of some diagrams and neglect of others is never seriously justified. Furthermore, the number of related decays of strange hadrons is small, so that experimental data are insufficient for singificant tests of phenomenological models with a few free parameters. The discovery of charmed particles with many open channels for nonleptonic decays has provided a new impetus for a theoretical understanding of these processes. The GIM current provides a well defined weak hamiltonian, which can justifiably be used to first order. The QCD approach to strong interactions gives flavor-indpendent couplings and flavor symmetry broken only by quark masses. In a model with n generations of quarks and 2n flavors, a flavor symmetry group SU(2n) can be defined which is broken only by H/sub weak/ and the quark masses. Here again, the same two approaches by symmetry and dynamics have been used. But both types of treatment tend to consider only the symmetry properties or dominant diagrams of the weak interaction, including some subtle effects, while overlooking rather obvious effects of strong interactions.

Book The Consolation of Philosophy Sedgefield translation

Download or read book The Consolation of Philosophy Sedgefield translation written by Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consolation of Philosophy (Latin: Consolatio Philosophiae) is a philosophical work by Boethius, written around the year 524. It has been described as the single most important and influential work in the West on Medieval and early Renaissance Christianity, and is also the last great Western work of the Classical Period. Anicius Manlius Severinus Boëthius, commonly called Boethius (c. 480–524 or 525 AD), was a philosopher of the early 6th century. He was born in Rome to an ancient and prominent family which included emperors Petronius Maximus and Olybrius and many consuls. His father, Flavius Manlius Boethius, was consul in 487 after Odoacer deposed the last Western Roman Emperor. Boethius, of the noble Anicia family, entered public life at a young age and was already a senator by the age of 25. Boethius himself was consul in 510 in the kingdom of the Ostrogoths. In 522 he saw his two sons become consuls. Boethius was imprisoned and eventually executed by King Theodoric the Great, who suspected him of conspiring with the Eastern Roman Empire. While jailed, Boethius composed his Consolation of Philosophy, a philosophical treatise on fortune, death, and other issues. The Consolation became one of the most popular and influential works of the Middle Ages.
