Book excerpt: I am Patrick T. Sheehan, a former IRS attorney. I wrote my second book, Divorce, Taxes and the IRS, to help people that are divorced or are divorcing navigate the tax and IRS side of your marriage. Not only are you untangling and terminating a marriage, but you are also untangling and terminating a financial and, perhaps, a business relationship. Like it or not, the money side of your marriage is a financial relationship. Perhaps you have bank accounts together. Perhaps you have assets together, like a home or cars or a business. You likely filed joint tax returns together. Your divorce, in addition to terminating the marriage and dealing with the kids, also must address the financial side of your relationship, and that includes taxes and the IRS. When you have an IRS problem, it is often your deepest, darkest secret. It is not something that you easily talk about and it certainly is not something you talk about at a cocktail party. You may not even tell your spouse or your business partner. But I am here to tell you that there is a way out, but you can't do it alone. I am a former IRS attorney which gave me the specialized training on how to solve IRS problems. This book will help divorcing or divorced individuals identify IRS problems in their divorce case and tackle those issues head on. When you are divorcing, you want to ensure that all of the issues are wrapped up when the divorce is over so that you can move on with your life. If there is a hidden or ignored IRS problem lurking in your divorce case, the IRS issues can cause big problems for you years into the future. Further, the ultimate settlement that is reached between the parties regarding the division of money and assets would probably have been far different if the IRS problem was addressed before or during the divorce proceedings. Let's bring your IRS problem out into the sunshine so that we can permanently solve your IRS problem together!

Book excerpt: "The United States Code is the official codification of the general and permanent laws of the United States of America. The Code was first published in 1926, and a new edition of the code has been published every six years since 1934. The 2012 edition of the Code incorporates laws enacted through the One Hundred Twelfth Congress, Second Session, the last of which was signed by the President on January 15, 2013. It does not include laws of the One Hundred Thirteenth Congress, First Session, enacted between January 2, 2013, the date it convened, and January 15, 2013. By statutory authority this edition may be cited "U.S.C. 2012 ed." As adopted in 1926, the Code established prima facie the general and permanent laws of the United States. The underlying statutes reprinted in the Code remained in effect and controlled over the Code in case of any discrepancy. In 1947, Congress began enacting individual titles of the Code into positive law. When a title is enacted into positive law, the underlying statutes are repealed and the title then becomes legal evidence of the law. Currently, 26 of the 51 titles in the Code have been so enacted. These are identified in the table of titles near the beginning of each volume. The Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives continues to prepare legislation pursuant to 2 U.S.C. 285b to enact the remainder of the Code, on a title-by-title basis, into positive law. The 2012 edition of the Code was prepared and published under the supervision of Ralph V. Seep, Law Revision Counsel. Grateful acknowledgment is made of the contributions by all who helped in this work, particularly the staffs of the Office of the Law Revision Counsel and the Government Printing Office"--Preface.

Book How To Solve Your IRS Tax Problem For Divorcing and Divorced Families in Texas

Download or read book How To Solve Your IRS Tax Problem For Divorcing and Divorced Families in Texas written by Larry Weinstein and published by . This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going through any divorce is stressful. Unfortunately, some divorcing families find themselves with some type of IRS Tax Problem, which makes matters even more difficult and complex. Whether a family finds themselves with a balance due or with unfiled tax returns, the IRS is relentless in collecting taxes they determine are owed. Many families assign tax obligations as a part of the divorce process. In many instances, the assignment of tax liability agreed upon by the divorcing spouses, will have NO bearing on the IRS Collection Process and how the IRS will attempt to collect the tax. This book explains how the IRS Collection Process works for families who are going through a divorce. Special emphasis is given to taxpayers contemplating divorce, taxpayers who find themselves in the middle of a divorce and for divorced taxpayers thinking of remarriage.
