Book Christian Mission in a Diverse British Urban Context

Download or read book Christian Mission in a Diverse British Urban Context written by Johnson Ambrose Afrane-Twum and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-01 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the globalized twenty-first century, there is greater need than ever for intercultural approaches to advancing the gospel in multicultural urban contexts. In this book, Dr. Johnson Ambrose Afrane-Twum explores the history of African immigrant churches in the UK. Examining the implications of black theology in the context of Britain’s multicultural landscape, he offers suggestions for how black-led churches can partner with white-majority churches for greater impact in urban ministry and evangelism. Such a partnership, he suggests, would enable both communities to challenge aspects of their respective cultures and theological approaches, recentring both on biblical truth. It would also provide a model of Christian mission built on mutual respect and love, transforming urban communities through an accessible and unifying gospel.

This book was released on 2014-09-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon two decades of mission experience, Leroy Barber exposes the racial divisions within Christian ministries and offers practical and comprehensive solutions for promoting diversity. RED, BROWN, YELLOW, BLACK AND WHITE highlights the historic patterns that have created racial discrepancies within missions. It joins the essential canon created by touchstone books like Divided by Faith by Michael Emerson and Christian Smith and the ever-popular Race Matters by Cornel West. With a no-blame attitude, powerful personal narratives from a dozen other black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American and white Christians, interactive histories of missions, and the writings of MLK and Howard Thurman (the entire "Letter From Birmingham Jail" and Howard Thurman's motivational speech "Sound of the Genuine"), Barber addresses this tough issue in a way that will inspire and motivate readers of all races toward change.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this multi-cultural and multi-religious world, do Christian mission studies have any place in the academic realm? What theological possibilities and practical insights did Vatican II create for missiology? In this book, experts from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and North America respond to these questions. They explore "mission" as "intercultural studies," and they adopt decolonial thinking to privilege knowledges from the margins of our wounded world. Themes, such as interculturality, interreligious dialogue and inculturation, justice, peace building, and reconciliation, expand Vatican II to celebrate "mission" among and with the nations. Book Reflecting God s Glory Together

Download or read book Reflecting God s Glory Together written by A. Scott Moreau and published by William Carey Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true story of mission has been deeper, wider, and far more diverse than many Christians in countries with long histories of church presence have realized. The authors in Reflecting God’s Glory Together: Diversity in Evangelical Mission drive that point home in a variety of ways. From Filipino and Ghanaian missionary work in North American cities, to Canadian work among the Chinese diaspora, to African-American work in Zimbabwe, the authors help us begin to grasp just how many ways evangelicals in mission are truly going from and coming to everywhere as they follow Christ’s mandate to reach the nations. Diverse voices utilizing diverse strategies pursuing a common call: these result in a mosaic whose larger pattern glorifies the God who came to live among us—and who continues to send us out in the pattern God so clearly established. As editors, Beth and Scott invite you to explore the stories embedded in that marvelous mosaic that we have been privileged to collect for this volume.

Download or read book Advancing Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility in the Leadership of Competed Missions written by National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine and published by . This book was released on 2023-02-18 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fostering diverse and inclusive teams that are highly skilled, innovative, and productive is critical for maintaining U.S. leadership in space exploration. In recent years, NASA has taken steps to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in their workforce by releasing its equity action plan, emphasizing how diverse and inclusive teams help maximize scientific returns, and requiring DEIA plans as part of announcements of opportunities. To further its efforts to advance DEIA, the Agency requested the National Academies undertake a study to evaluate ways NASA can address the lack of diversity in space mission leadership. Advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Leadership of Competed Space Missions outlines near and long-term actions NASA can take to make opportunities for leadership and involvement in competed space missions more accessible, inclusive, and equitable. Report recommendations range from changes to the mission proposal process to investments in STEM education and career pathways. This report makes 15 recommendations for advancing DEIA within NASA's Science Mission Directorate divisions that support competed space mission programs. However, many of the report's recommendations could also be applied broadly to research at NASA and other federal agencies and institutions, leading to a more diverse research workforce.
