Book Hell Or High Water

Download or read book Hell Or High Water written by Mark Rainbolt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08-17 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I learned to dive in the mid 70’s by reading a short book about diving. Then my brother told me to NOT hold my breath and swim. My first dive was a solo dive in a stone quarry in Indiana. The next few years I got formal training and worked through the ranks to instructor. I worked as a YMCA and PADI instructor in Florida for several years before going to the West coast to train instructors at PADI College. In the mid 80’s I was hired by Werner and Myra Kurn to work as the Director of Training at Ocean Enterprises in San Diego, and trained instructors at Ocean Enterprises in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. I worked as a PADI Instructor examiner for more than 20 years and have more than 5000 dives.

Book Nuts to Butts

Download or read book Nuts to Butts written by R. W. Bishop USN (Ret) and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Rich Bishop, reporting to basic training for the US Navy was reminiscent of Dorothy leaving Kansas and ending up in Oz. The transition from civilian to navy life overwhelmed Bishop. In Nuts to Butts, he narrates excerpts of his twenty-two-year careerfrom basic training to retirement. In this memoir, Bishop tells of meeting a wide assortment of people and the problems they brought with them. He shares the good and not-so-good times of serving in the fleet, including dealing with the loss of privacy, becoming a team member, and keeping US warships in mission-ready condition and the crews in shape to play the mental games required in an examination- and deployment-laden schedule. Nuts to Butts describes living through basic training, working in the scullery of an aircraft carrier, serving duty as shore patrol, visiting exotic ports of call for liberty, climbing a plateau with shear vertical sides in Sri Lanka, living on the naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, and making night dives among the sharks. Bishop provides keen insight into the life of a sailor, delivered with humor. He not only fondly remembers his service, but preserves the stories for all.

Book Honor Bound

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kyndra Miller Rotunda
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book Honor Bound written by Kyndra Miller Rotunda and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honor Bound is an intriguing book that explains the law of war and the inside story of military commissions. The author is a former JAG lawyer who served on the prosecution team, worked in Guantanamo Bay, and was legal advisor to an elite team of war crimes investigators. Through a series of entertaining vignettes, Rotunda discusses and analyzes the laws governing the war on terror, the Geneva Conventions, and the laws related to detainees held in Cuba. Readers will look at Marine Corps training in Quantico, Virginia; learn about Gitmo's detention camp through the author's experiences with real detainees and real interrogators; travel the globe with "terrorist hunters" following investigatory leads; see what went wrong in Gitmo and with the military commissions; meet Private Jessica Lynch; and learn about laws that protect the combat wounded. Scholarly and informative, this book is also a fascinating and engaging read. "This eye-opening inside account must be read by everyone who cares about balancing national security and human dignity." -- Alan M. Dershowitz, Harvard Law School Professor and author of Finding Jefferson "Honor Bound is an engrossing, first-hand account of military justice in an age of terrorism and what it takes to defend liberty as a JAG officer today. And though [Major Rotunda] pulls no punches where criticism is due, she (and we) can be justly proud of the underlying integrity of our military services and the honor-bound system of our men and women in uniform." -- Edwin Meese, Former U.S. Attorney General "Kyndra Rotunda's book, Honor Bound, is not only an interesting and well-written account of her experiences as a military lawyer, but reveals the surprising facts behind the Guantanamo Bay detainee stories, the problems with recent War Crimes prosecution trials and a host of other facets of the War on Terror." -- Professor Joyce Malcolm, George Mason University Law School "While not everyone will agree with this well-argued book's conclusions, anyone wishing to understand the upcoming detainee trials will want to read this fine account." -- Professor J. Peter Pham, James Madison University and Director of the Nelson Institute for International and Public Affairs "This book was a page-turning eye-opener for me. No American should miss the opportunity--and responsibility--to read it. Bravo!" -- Theodore B. Olson, Former Solicitor General of the United States, Former Assistant Attorney General, Office of Legal Counsel, Department of Justice, and partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher "A thrilling account." -- James L. Swanson New York Times bestselling author of Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer "This book is must reading for anyone interested in understanding what really happened in the treatment of detainees at Guantanamo." -- Prof. Robert F. Turner Co-founder, Center for National Security Law University of Virginia School of Law
