Book The Availability and Demand Outlook Distribution and Principal Properties of Domestic Diesel Fuels

Download or read book The Availability and Demand Outlook Distribution and Principal Properties of Domestic Diesel Fuels written by C. M. Larson and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petroleum industry is vitally interested in the supply, demand, and distribution of diesel fuel oils, and through the American Petroleum Inst., the Bureau of Mines, and other sources, it keeps in contact with the ever increasing demand. Diesel fuel oil is middle distillate with a cultural background and in reality covers two quality grades--regular and premium. It is unfortunate that trade circles still use Diesel Index--generally 55 to 58 D.I.--as the dividing line instead of cetane number, ASTM Method D 613, or Calculated Cetane Index. A mixed outlook for potential diesel engine sales in 1954 is envisioned. New sales to railroads, highway transportation, and agriculture are expected to be lower in 1954 than in 1953. However, sales of diesel engines to general industry, to construction, mining, marine, and petroleum companies, and to municipal projects will be greater this year. Analysts foresee a good year ahead for the diesel industry. The five-year totals for the nine major categories covered are given in Table I. Since larger percentages of oil supplies are to come from areas outside of the United States, Fig. 1 is of interest since it shows the world petroleum demand and world petroleum supply, as well as the United States' position in this up- ward trend of supply and demand through 1956. Developments in global needs are dependent upon political as well as economic factors.

Book Fuel and Food Price Subsidies Issues and Reform Options

Download or read book Fuel and Food Price Subsidies Issues and Reform Options written by International Monetary Fund. Fiscal Affairs Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2008-08-09 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government price subsidies are pervasive in developed, emerging, and low-income countries. A subsidy is a form of government intervention resulting in a deviation of an actual price facing consumers and producers from a specified benchmark price. Subsidies affect consumption and production patterns as well as the distribution of resources, with important implications for the budget, expenditure composition, and long-term growth. They can and often do involve fiscal costs, but not all affect government fiscal accounts in the same way. Price subsidies have spillover effects onto prices and quantities in domestic, regional, or global markets. This paper discusses the key issues and policy options in the reform of subsidies for fossil fuels and selected food commodities, and their implications for the work of the Fund.

Book Distribution and Storage Problems with Diesel Fuels

Download or read book Distribution and Storage Problems with Diesel Fuels written by W. P. Lakin and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last year over 6 billion gallons of diesel fuel were required to satisfy the domestic United States demand. It is estimated that at least 8 million separate product movements were required to get this fuel into the tanks of the ultimate consumers. In fact, the actual number of product movements is probably much higher. For example, in many cases heating oils and diesel fuels are identical products and move through the same distribution systems. Heating oil sales amount to about 15 billion gallons and certainly require at least an additional 15 million product deliveries. These estimates point up the complexity of the problem of distributing diesel fuels. In some cases where the system is relatively straightforward, the fuel is carried in large volume carriers, railroad tank cars, or tank wagons directly from the refinery to the supply tanks of the consumer. In many other cases, the initial delivery is made by tank ship to a marine terminal; from this terminal the fuel is carried by tank car or tank wagon to a bulk plant; from the bulk plant the fuel is transported to service stations; and from the service stations it is sold in small quantities for use on the road. All of these shipments and product movements must be handled in such a way as to minimize inventories, and also to minimize the number of tanks and the number of pieces of mobile equipment required. The optimum choice must be made between two types of systems: (1) delivery of large volumes requiring large-scale tankage and long hauls, and (2) a large number of shorthaul deliveries of small volumes into smaller scale tankage. Furthermore, it is not a case of handling one single product but a multiplicity of products. Generally, at least two or three diesel fuels are involved, and in many cases a separate delivery system for heating oil is also required. This vast number of product movements and the number of times that each product is handled are of great importance, since diesel fuels have very limited tolerance as regards contamination. Everyone is thoroughly familiar with the fact that dirt or abrasive materials of all types must be excluded from diesel fuel oil. However, not as much thought has been given to the fact that there are many other types of contamination which can adversely affect the performance of diesel fuels. These contaminants include water, gasoline, other fuel oils, in fact almost anything else. Unfortunately, a great many people take all too seriously statements regarding the diesel engine's ability to burn "anything that can be pumped." They do not realize that this statement is figurative rather than literal, as far as the vast majority of diesel equipment is concerned.

Download or read book Food and Fuel written by Marcos Fava Neves and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-25 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a contribution of the authors to the food - fuel debate. During 2007 and 2008 several factors led to the food inflation problem: growing population, income distribution, urbanization, biofuel, social programs, production scarcity etc.. Biofuel got most of the blame for food inflation but its responsibility was only limited. There are several possibilities of solving the food inflation problem that are discussed this book. It explores the example of Brazil’s agricultural sector, where a quiet revolution occurred in the last 15 years. This development is leading to Brazil becoming one of the largest food exporters globally. This position will strengthen as an additional 100 million hectares becomes available for crop development. The second part of the book explores the basics of the sugar cane chain. Sugar cane occupies less than 2% of Brazilian arable land and supplies 50% of Brazilian car fuel. In 2010 Brazil produced 53% of the world’s sugar. Sugar cane produces sugar, ethanol (used as car fuel), biogases that are used to co-generate electricity and other by-products. Biofuel is a booming industry. New technologies allow production of diesel and other fuels from cane. Sugar cane ethanol is the only renewable fuel that can currently compete with gasoline. Coca Cola just launched the plastic bottle with sugar cane plastic. This book helps us to understand Brazilian agribusiness and sugar cane economics from various perspectives e.g. international investments, sustainability, future trends and the strategic plan for the Brazilian industry.
