Book Distributed Control of Multi agent Systems Under Communication Constraints

Download or read book Distributed Control of Multi agent Systems Under Communication Constraints written by Syed Ali Ajwad and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-agent systems (MAS) have gained much popularity due to their vast range of applications. MAS is deployed to achieve more complex goals which could not be realized by a single agent alone. Communication and information exchange among the agents in a MAS is crucial to control its cooperative behavior. Agents share their information with their neighbors to reach a common objective, thus do not require any central monitoring unit. However, the communication among the agents is subject to various practical constraints. These constraints include irregular and asynchronous sampling periods and the availability of partial states only. Such constraints pose significant theoretical and practical challenges. In this thesis, we investigate two fundamental problems related to distributed cooperative control, namely consensus and formation control, of double-integrator MAS under these constraints. It is considered that each agent in the network can measure and transmit its position state only at nonuniform and asynchronous sampling instants. Moreover, the velocity and acceleration are not available. First, we study the problem of distributed control of leader-following consensus. A continuous-discrete time observer based leader-following algorithm is proposed. The observer estimates the position and velocity of the agent and its neighbor in continuous time from the available sampled position data. Then these estimated states are used for the computation of the control input. Both fixed and switching topology scenarios are discussed. Secondly, a consensus based distributed formation tracking protocol is designed to achieve both fixed and time-varying formation patterns. Collision avoidance problem is also studied in this thesis. An Artificial Potential Function (APF) based collision avoidance mechanism is incorporated with the formation tracking algorithm to prevent collisions between the agents while converging to a desired position. Finally, the proposed algorithms are applied on a multi-robot network, consisting of differential drive robots using Robot Operating System (ROS). A new scheme is proposed to deal with nonholonomic constraints of the robot. Efficiency of the designed algorithms and their effectiveness in real world applications are shown through both simulation and hardware results.

The monograph will contribute to stimulating extensive interest of researchers in electrical and control fields.

Book Distributed Control of Multi agent Systems

Download or read book Distributed Control of Multi agent Systems written by He Hao and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of distributed control of multi-agent systems (MASs) is to achieve a global control objective while using only locally available information. Each agent computes its own control action by using only information that can be obtained by either communication with its nearby neighbors or by on-board sensors. Recent years have witnessed a burgeoning interest in MASs due to their wide range of applications, such as automated highway system, surveillance and rescue by coordination of aerial and ground vehicles, spacecraft formation control for science missions. Most of these applications involve a large number of agents that are distributed over a broad geographical domain, in which a centralized control solution that requires all-to-all or all-to-one communication is impractical due to overwhelming communication demands. This motivates study of distributed control architectures, in which each agent makes control decisions based on only locally available information. Although it is more appealing than centralized control in this regard, distributed control suffers from a few limitations. In particular, its performance usually degrades as the number of agents in the collection increases. In this work, we examine two classes of distributed control problems: vehicular formation control and distributed consensus. Despite difference in their agent dynamics, the two problems are similar. In the vehicular formation control problem, each agent is modeled as a double-integrator. In contrast, the dynamics of each agent in distributed consensus is usually given by a single-integrator or its discrete counterpart.

Book Cooperative Control of Multi Agent Systems

Download or read book Cooperative Control of Multi Agent Systems written by Frank L. Lewis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cooperative Control of Multi-Agent Systems extends optimal control and adaptive control design methods to multi-agent systems on communication graphs. It develops Riccati design techniques for general linear dynamics for cooperative state feedback design, cooperative observer design, and cooperative dynamic output feedback design. Both continuous-time and discrete-time dynamical multi-agent systems are treated. Optimal cooperative control is introduced and neural adaptive design techniques for multi-agent nonlinear systems with unknown dynamics, which are rarely treated in literature are developed. Results spanning systems with first-, second- and on up to general high-order nonlinear dynamics are presented. Each control methodology proposed is developed by rigorous proofs. All algorithms are justified by simulation examples. The text is self-contained and will serve as an excellent comprehensive source of information for researchers and graduate students working with multi-agent systems.

Book Investigation of Communication Constraints in Distributed Multi agent Systems

Download or read book Investigation of Communication Constraints in Distributed Multi agent Systems written by Zhaoyang Fu and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a simple flocking model with collision avoidance, a set of investigations of multi-agent system communication constraints have been conducted, including distributed estimation of global features, the influence of jamming, and communication performance optimization. In flocking control, it is necessary to achieve a common velocity among agents and maintain a safe distance between neighboring agents. The local information among agents is exchanged in a distributed fashion to help achieve velocity consensus. A distributed estimation algorithm was recently proposed to estimate the group's global features. To reduce the communication load, the exchange of local estimations among agents occurs at discrete time instants defined by an event-triggering mechanism. To conform the effectiveness of the new distributed estimation algorithm, we simulated the algorithm while adopting a simple flocking control technique with collision avoidance. In addition, the effect of jamming on flocking control and the distributed algorithm is studied through computer simulations. Finally, to better exploit the communication channel among agents, we study a recently proposed formation control multi-agent algorithm, which optimizes the inter-agent distance in order to achieve optimum inter-agent communication performance. The study is also conducted through computer simulations, which confirms the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Book Distributed Impulsive Coordination of Multi Agent Systems

Download or read book Distributed Impulsive Coordination of Multi Agent Systems written by Zhengle Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the distributed impulsive coordination control of multi-agent systems (MASs), including consensus problem and formation problem. Compared with continuous control, impulsive control as a discontinuous control method only needs information interaction at impulsive instants, which can greatly reduce the transmission cost in the communication process. In practice, MASs are often affected by environmental and hardware conditions, resulting in the application of impulsive control is limited. For example, it is difficult to exert the impulsive control signal accurately at a fixed instant, and it is difficult to control all agents at the same impulsive instant. Moreover, the actual models of MASs often contain some constraints such as unknown parameters, stochastic perturbation, and time delays. In addition, stochastic switching topologies and cyberattacks will limit the communication between agents in MASs, which will greatly affect the coordination control performance. Based on the existing research results, this book considers the above constraints of MASs in practice and studies the key problems of distributed impulsive coordination control for MASs. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in control system theory, as well as engineers studying MASs.

Book Cooperative Control of Multi agent Systems

Download or read book Cooperative Control of Multi agent Systems written by He Cai and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus of this book is a pair of cooperative control problems: consensus and cooperative output regulation. Its emphasis is on complex multi-agent systems characterized by strong nonlinearity, large uncertainty, heterogeneity, external disturbances and jointly connected switching communication topologies. The cooperative output regulation problem is a generalization of the classical output regulation problem to multi-agent systems and it offers a general framework for handling a variety of cooperative control problems such as consensus, formation, tracking and disturbance rejection. The book strikes a balance between rigorous mathematical proof and engineering practicality. Every design method is systematically presented together with illustrative examples and all the designs are validated by computer simulation. The methods presented are applied to several practical problems, among them the leader-following consensus problem of multiple Euler–Lagrange systems, attitude synchronization of multiple rigid-body systems, and power regulation of microgrids. The book gives a detailed exposition of two approaches to the design of distributed control laws for complex multi-agent systems—the distributed-observer and distributed-internal-model approaches. Mastering both will enhance a reader’s ability to deal with a variety of complex real-world problems. Cooperative Control of Multi-agent Systems can be used as a textbook for graduate students in engineering, sciences, and mathematics, and can also serve as a reference book for practitioners and theorists in both industry and academia. Some knowledge of the fundamentals of linear algebra, calculus, and linear systems are needed to gain maximum benefit from this book. Advances in Industrial Control reports and encourages the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

Book Cooperative Control of Multi Agent Systems

Download or read book Cooperative Control of Multi Agent Systems written by Zhongkui Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distributed controller design is generally a challenging task, especially for multi-agent systems with complex dynamics, due to the interconnected effect of the agent dynamics, the interaction graph among agents, and the cooperative control laws. Cooperative Control of Multi-Agent Systems: A Consensus Region Approach offers a systematic framework for designing distributed controllers for multi-agent systems with general linear agent dynamics, linear agent dynamics with uncertainties, and Lipschitz nonlinear agent dynamics. Beginning with an introduction to cooperative control and graph theory, this monograph: Explores the consensus control problem for continuous-time and discrete-time linear multi-agent systems Studies the H∞ and H2 consensus problems for linear multi-agent systems subject to external disturbances Designs distributed adaptive consensus protocols for continuous-time linear multi-agent systems Considers the distributed tracking control problem for linear multi-agent systems with a leader of nonzero control input Examines the distributed containment control problem for the case with multiple leaders Covers the robust cooperative control problem for multi-agent systems with linear nominal agent dynamics subject to heterogeneous matching uncertainties Discusses the global consensus problem for Lipschitz nonlinear multi-agent systems Cooperative Control of Multi-Agent Systems: A Consensus Region Approach provides a novel approach to designing distributed cooperative protocols for multi-agent systems with complex dynamics. The proposed consensus region decouples the design of the feedback gain matrices of the cooperative protocols from the communication graph and serves as a measure for the robustness of the protocols to variations of the communication graph. By exploiting the decoupling feature, adaptive cooperative protocols are presented that can be designed and implemented in a fully distributed fashion.

Book Formation Control

Download or read book Formation Control written by Hyo-Sung Ahn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph introduces recent developments in formation control of distributed-agent systems. Eschewing the traditional concern with the dynamic characteristics of individual agents, the book proposes a treatment that studies the formation control problem in terms of interactions among agents including factors such as sensing topology, communication and actuation topologies, and computations. Keeping pace with recent technological advancements in control, communications, sensing and computation that have begun to bring the applications of distributed-systems theory out of the industrial sphere and into that of day-to-day life, this monograph provides distributed control algorithms for a group of agents that may behave together. Unlike traditional control laws that usually require measurements with respect to a global coordinate frame and communications between a centralized operation center and agents, this book provides control laws that require only relative measurements and communications between agents without interaction with a centralized operator. Since the control algorithms presented in this book do not require any global sensing and any information exchanges with a centralized operation center, they can be realized in a fully distributed way, which significantly reduces the operation and implementation costs of a group of agents. Formation Control will give both students and researchers interested in pursuing this field a good grounding on which to base their work.
